The last I heard there will not be a tiger cruise until next year sometime. Can't fit it into schedule coming home. I am going with my dil to the video teleconference with the CO, XO, CMC Monday night here in Virginia. Will find out new & updated info so maybe I'll be able to give ya'll some updates after.

que'smom...there will be information from the ship on the homecoming. And like PIR your name will be on a list...

Wonder if there's a tiger cruise or family day for the GW??...anyone get the ombudsman emails? I only get them for the squadron based in CA not the ships.

Did I tell this group my homecoming story? I was sitting on the beach waiting for the carrier to pull in, it wasn't coming in hours....sat there reading my book, yea right watching the horizon...an hour before the boat is due in, my phone rings...it's my sailor..."hey Mom, what are you doing?...told him sitting on the beach waiting for you to pull in...he laughed, "we pulled in before daylight, come pick me up at the front gate"...Really!...then the next day we went on the carrier for the Family Fun Day at sea for 13 hours watching an awesome airshow and all the display they had set up...it was awesome...hope the USS GW does a family day.

I hear you..the Navy has had my son for the last three Christmas in Japan....He is suppose to have leave Jan 1 to January 31 before going to Washington State.

Hopefully when it gets a little closer we will have an exact date.  My son told me that he will be able to give us a tour of the GW.  I'm so excited to see them pull into port.  I was not able to go to Japan to see it and so happy that I will be able to witness it in VA.

I haven't heard from my son again....just a very negative message.....and that they are stuck on the ship.....

I will be driving to VA from Louisiana.  This will be the first time I will meet the ship coming into port.  Please share any information you receive.  My son told me the ships approximate arrival date, however I want to make sure I dont miss out on any events.  How do we get permission to get on base the day the ship arrives?

uphappy is an under statement so is the word crap, not the word I heard...lol....when my brothers were in the Navy they got steak and lobster for bad news or a morale booster....here's hoping they do something, hummm maybe fly in some entertainment....

Think I read this cruise has only been done 8 times so there's probably lots of issues to work out with poor countries..it's not like there's ships going there every 6 month like some ports...plus we don't have a big military or security presence there so port liberty has been very restrictive as to where they can go...even more so then the middle east..

hummm in VA there's 2 Navy Lodges....might want to ask someone on the Norfolk group which one to book...you can always cancel or change dates but you should book it should....If you can fly Southwest they have a sale going on right now and it's free to change dates and can be done on the online....just a thought...

I was going to reserve at Navy Lodge too..  I feel so bad for them ! And I am sure all of our Sailors are po'd about now.. They need to recharge those batteries!

I am (at this point) driving to Va. But not ruling out flying either!

Oh crap a ship load of unhappy sailors....not good!  I haven't heard from my son no email no phone call but if he's p.o.'d then he probably won't contact me until he's in a better mood! LOL

I haven't made a hotel reservation yet either for Virginia...it's on my "to-do-list" just haven't done it but really should soon. I'll definitely get a free cancellation room in case I need to make changes to the date.  The hubby and I will be driving from Missouri it's about a 14 hour drive for us.  Keeping my fingers crossed my sailor gets leave and will be coming home with us.  I would love to have him home for Christmas...he was in high school the last time he spent Christmas with us...that was 5 years ago!  Since joining the Navy he spent his first Christmas in bootcamp and the last 3 in Japan.  It's my turn now!!!

My son was going horseback riding in chili......I guess he is not going now...hopefully he didn't pay for that too....I will tell him about the services not render option on the hotel.....they should be flexible....$500 is a lot of money for them....

Are you staying at the Navy Lodge??

I'm thinking that the date to pull into port in VA will change, between weather and port visits....so I'm hanging tight on whether to book a plane or hotel yet....will you fly from Long Island or drive?

Comment by BeachBunny on October 15, 2015 at 12:15pm

well, crumb...need to revise my post...my sailor is not going into port...no liberty in port due to weather....:((

Guess I'll have not go to BevMo and buy a bottle of Chile wine!

Comment by BeachBunny on October 15, 2015 at 11:20am

navymomfromCT....wowsier, he should challenge the charge using services not render option, hummm no signature on the charge...my sailor has been on deployment most of his navy career, carrier hopping GW is his 3rd carrier....he books hotel rooms using the "pay" at the hotel options bc they never know if they will make it to the room, card number isn't used on booking until he arrives at the hotel...once mine didn't make his room due to a sand storm hit them 200 miles off shore......oh, they have to be Navy Flexible

My sailor was bummed about Chile, he had a MWR trip book to visit the wineries, his last CO said they are beautiful and worth the trip out of another big ugly city...plus this Navy Mom wanted a bottle of wine from there.

djk's Mom...some ports don't use a dock and ferry them in...happened to my sailor in Perth, Australia too

sadly I don't think I'll be going to VA, wanted to meet a few Moms there like joshmom...being on a squadron they may hop off early and head back to CA...think I'll be at that homecoming with my sailors truck since the truck is at my house for this deployment...
