joshman:  We should talk....where are you coming from?  I'm not sure whether to fly or drive since it will be last minute when they pull into the dock....I'm not sure how I'm going to work it....do I book a hotel now?

I just heard from my son.....he lost two nights at the hotel....$500....because the seas are too choppy....cannot get off the ship....He is not a happy sailor!  :(

navymomfromCT - glad to hear from you again!  I think our sons have been on the ship about the same amount of time. You bet I'm going to Virginia...wouldn't miss it!  I never made it to Japan to see it there.  My son reenlisted too.  He'll be going for advanced schooling soon after getting to Virginia but then he'll go back and stay with the GW again. He must really like that ship!  LOL

Good Morn GW group...just talked to my sailor, he was waiting to get off the boat...said they cancelled leave the last 2 days due to a storm. ..using liberty "ferry" boat since there's no dock big enough for them....saw these pictures yesterday on the ship FB page..water looks very choppy!

151013-N-WO404-022 VALPARAISO, Chile (Oct. 13, 2015) A liberty boat approaches the stern dock of aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN 73) as it is anchored in Valparaiso Bay.

Do you think they will ever get of the boat in Chile??

P.S.  I am from CT and my packages have been taking exactly 2 weeks to get there.....They LOVE getting packages.....

My son said Peru was okay....he took a taxi and he said they have the worst drivers...he went to an underground market and the casino where he won some money....he said that nobody owns dogs and cats and that they roam the streets and parks and beaches.

Hello all.  I haven't been on this site for quite some time.  My son has been on the GW for the past three years in Japan....He stayed on the GW during the switch in San Diego....he is heading to Virginia with the ship and then he is reinlisting and heading to Washington State.  I have been in contact with him a couple of times a week via facebook messaging but looking forward to a call from him since he has a hotel in chili and maybe some wifi....

My family and I are planning a trip to Virginia to see the GW pull into port and spend a few days there.  I am so looking forward to that!  Is anybody else heading to Virginia to see this?

Were your sailors originally on the Regan or were they in Japan with the GW?
