Hi no I haven't gotten an answer on San Diego yet. I do know he is officially a Shellback.

Odi - no it wasn't golden. My son stated in his email that things weren't looking good for that but I'm not giving up hope yet - still keeping my fingers crossed for the golden shellback.

Que'smom - has anyone been able to answer your question yet about arriving in SD?

Sethsmom - thanks for the link. I didn't know about the mossback

Hi, my son met up with the GW in Australia after he finished C-school. This is his first tour. His orders show he will be staying with the GW however I expect that may change now that he has met the ship and is still young in his contract. I would like to meet the ship in San Diego, but how will I find out the ships date of arrival?

Seth became a shellback 2 years sgo. Haven't seen a certificate. Hope he still has that. He says they going to try for golden shellback on way back. That's where they cross equator at 180 meridisn. Those staying with GW will also earn mossback going around Cape Horn.

KimberlyP your comment from June 11 made me laugh and cry at the same time! My son is the same. He recently got a good conduct medal and sent me a pic with no explanation. The FB page had pics the same day with PO ceremonies so I thought it was that. After ibpicked myself up off the floor, I was so excited and proud I shared it as that only to be embarrassed when he said "uh mom that wasn't Po". It's so frustrating that they don't share that stuff with us.

My son was suppose to be coming stateside. Now he tells us he is transferring to RR and going back. :( 3 1/2 years! Only to be more. We are going to San Diego too. Thankfully he tells us he will be able to spend time with us.

Thanks to all of you on here! You are such a blessing! It is so helpful to know you aren't the lone ranger in your struggle of missing them. And those that do get info and contact th as nks for sharing!

Happy Friday ladies!

Hope you all have a great weekend and hear from your sailors! I'm sure mine will be calling me but if I know my kid it will be a couple days....he'll hit the pubs before he calls mom! LOL

My girl became a shellback 2 years ago and brought her certificate home last year. It's really beautiful. It's framed and hanging in her room.

When she graduated A school, 3 years ago, she made me a beautiful hinged shadowbox with her graduation picture on one side and all of her ribbons and medals to that point, on the other. When she came home a few months ago, she updated the medals and ribbons to everything she has now. She said she knows how much I love being able to have everything she has. It sits on my desk at work. I love it.
