Hello everyone...Hope everbody had a nice Easter!!!
Anyways just wanted to know if this happened to any one when sending out a package???
Today I go to the post office with the same lg flat rate priority mail box that I've always sent with no problems....until today... they put the address through and said they said couldnt mail it unless it was express mail. Only express mail could be mailed out with the fpo/ap addresses. This message came up on their computer. So just wondering if any one had the same experience lately or knew what was up. They also said i could send it as is, but could be sent back to me and then I lose out on the postage. Well I decided to take it back and will try again on Friday.
thinkgeek.com also sends to FPO/APO addresses. They love our military. My son in Afgh said the catalog we sent with his 'toy' from thinkgeek was loaned out and not seen since because the guys love it so much. YOu can sign up your sweetheart to get the catalog, too, if they love cool stuff.
Just a note on 'homebaked goods'. I am sending to both my sons. One on the Green Bay and one in Afghanistan. It took 10 days to Afg the first time around and a box mailed the same day to the Green Bay took exactly 3 weeks. EVERYTHING was still good. Brownies, cookies made with cake mixes (and oil and eggs) were a favorite, and choc chip cookies made w/ m&m's. For the brownies and choc chip type cookies I make them in those 8x8 foil pans one can get very cheaply at Dollar Tree. I line the pan with an 8x 12" strip of parchment so the slab-cookie comes out cleanly. I over wrap it twice in plastic wrap, then slip into a gallon ziplock. Those fit nicely on the bottom of the box and if you are sending a 12x12 flat rate box you can get 3 of them in there with lots of leftover room.
I've sent gum, candy, power bars, homebaked goods, playing cards (they really like the clear ones), DVD's, books...esp books! My son tells me the library on the GB is pathetic. IF you decide to send books, do try the option of using Amazon.com. My hubby works out of state much of the time so we are very good customers of Amazon and decided to pay the yearly fee for "Amazon Prime". We just sent books to Aaron w/o paying shipping (wouldn't be a good value to pay for Prime if you don't use amazon much). But the cool thing is you can send them via Amazon and not have to worry about not having room in your own box for other things. My son seems to get his packages, but not his letters. Hope this helps someone!
thanks Sarah
