I did something to day I haven't done is awhile and thought I would share a couple of things I have done and do when my son is deployed.  Forgive me if I am repeating myself.

When I get the mailing address I print the address on labels.  I cut a few off the sheet and carry them in my purse, that way when someone I know ask's how my child is I hand them a label and tell them they would love to hear from them!  I also send the mailing labels to the grandparents as they are often challenged with the address.  We did this when our son first left and our younger daughter was to young to address a envelope (so that the mail carrier could read).  We gave her a supply of mailing labels that way she could write her borther any time she wanted and didn't have to ask for help.

The other thing I do is save calendars like the Far Side or Cartoons, you know the ones that have something different on it each day.  Any ways I save those and when my child is deployed I attempt to mail a letter every couple of days.  When I don't have a lot to say I put one of the cartoons or Far Side pages in there so they at least get a laugh.

Ok so what are the rest of you doing?
