thanks Dee and Lauri.  I figured as much regarding details being few and far between and also the security reasons for not posting that type of info on a public forum.  I haven't seen him since last October and well, him being my only child, it goes without saying I suppose.. Pride, worry, missing him, all that mom stuff.  At least now we are on the same coast.

Comment by Lauri on July 11, 2012 at 4:44pm

My son is home on liberty and said you do not need to worry.  This is not deployment but rather a time at sea to run some drills and such.  They won 't be gone long.  Dee is right.  There will be several periods of time like this before they actually deploy.  When they do deploy we should not discuss specifics on this site for safety reasons.  As much as you want to know the details they usually are few and far between.

Question - Not sure anyone can tell me anything here in this forum if not pls PM me.  Talked to my son yesterday and said that they are deploying in a week.  What does that mean exactly, do we know where they are going?  Can they tells us?  He's 19 and this is his first ship and our first deployment, and I, of course, am a bit worried and wanting any and all info I can get.

My son came aboard this ship in may. This mom is not looking forward to later this year when they deploy for eight months. They were at seal beach yesterday. My son loves san diego but did not like seal beach. Check out the Uss green bay page on Facebook. There are some awesome pictures. You may see your sailor.

it looks like it's been a while since anyone has posted anything lol.  I just got a text from my son saying he is going be sent to this ship.  So I thought I would stop by and say Hi.  He hasn't told me much else.
