Cool U.S. Navy video about the LCAC (Landing Craft Air Cushion)!
Wow! Today was definitely German food day! What an awesome meal Yvonne made! I love her Sauerbraten (marinated rump roast), Spatzle (German noodle dumplings), Sauerkraut, and Creamed Spinach. Add to that her homemade rye bread, and oh! what a meal!! That was our Sunday dinner today! That was topped off with her German apple crisp and ice cream for dessert. Now I'm ready for a long nap! :)
Kari joined us for worship at church this morning and then for dinner this afternoon. I really think she enjoyed the meal as much as I did!
After we ate we prayed together...especially for her time underway, as well as the advancement exam she will be taking.
I shared a couple of scriptures with her for encouragement that I will share with you here too: check them out.
1 Corinthians 10:13
"No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it."
Please keep Kari, Crystal, Christopher, and Justin in your prayers as they go underway for a few weeks.
If your son or daughter are in this area we'd love to invite them over. :)
We had a sailor from the Iwo Jima, and three sailors from the USS Ross over for dinner today. We enjoyed having them over last night for our game night too.
On the menu was spaghetti, salad, and home made Italian bread. Crystal brought pineapple and raspberries. Then for dessert it was Apricot Lattice Cake and coffee and tea. Kari helped Yvonne in the kitchen.
Cody challenged me to a game of chess. Now, you have to realize, I haven't played chess in over thirteen years! But it was a good game. Cody almost let me win...NOT! He pounced on my queen the first chance he got after a move I didn't see. :( After that it was all down hill. Yea, Cody won!

Trisha's right, when headed to their first duty station, sailors are responsible for getting their own goods there, whether carried in seabags, mailed, whatever. Later, when they're PCS'ing (Permanent Change of Station from one duty station to another) they're eligible for certain entitlements.
Future plans aren't discussed due to Operational Security unfortunately. But he will definitely be glad to have a car when he's there. For long-term parking, check with the Norfolk NEX Long Term Parking 757-445-1492, hours 8 a.m. - 4 p.m., cost $60/month, $5 more to start it once a month, and talk to the insurance company about a reduced rate.
Speaking of long-term...USS Iwo Jima is currently slated to move its homeport to Mayport, Florida in early 2015. Mayport will be home to the Iwo Jima Amphibious Ready Group - the Iwo, USS New York and USS Fort Henry. Iwo Jima ARG to Mayport by 2015
Regarding finding out about his living arrangement, your son should be given contact information for his sponsor soon. His sponsor will have info, greet him and get him oriented.
Welcome Josh'smom!!
