Interesting little fact for Friday :) Cats aren't just for lazing around waiting for the next dish of Fancy Feast - they have a long history on Navy ships. Interesting story, and some priceless pictures! US Naval Institute: Cats and the Sea Services
From Stars and Stripes:
The Navy has positioned a pair of amphibious ships in the Red Sea for a possible evacuation of U.S. Embassy personnel from the Yemen capital of Sanaa.
The USS Iwo Jima, an amphibious assault ship, and the USS Fort McHenry, a dock landing ship, were moved in recent hours from the Gulf of Aden to the Red Sea, nearer to Yemen’s capital, U.S. 5th Fleet spokesman Cmdr. Kevin Stephens said. Both ships are part of the Iwo Jima Amphibious Ready Group, and each has Marines embarked from the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit.
“They are ready to support operations to protect Americans in Yemen if that becomes necessary,” Stephens said.

Don't know if they've received mail. It can take from two weeks (optimistic!) to twice that. Just depends…
Thank you Marcy...
Hi, here's what to do: send an email to the gals who are the Iwo Jima's Ombudsman Team. They are the official liaison between the command and the Iwo families, and they'll be able to help you. Here's the email address: iwoombudsman@gmail.com
Marcy,
Hi need help with a personal issue going on could you please assit me with direction on who to contact please on the Iwo Jima ship. Thank you Kindly...
I don't know if there's an area on the ship for watching personal DVDs. I can't speak for other sailors but mine takes his laptop. He also takes a tablet that he tends to use more because it's so much smaller and lighter, easier to use. If your son takes his laptop, be sure he has it password-protected so someone else can't log in. As long as he keeps his laptop locked up in his rack, there shouldn't be any problems :)
You're very welcome for any help I can be. Just think, after this deployment you'll be answering questions for the newbies!
