My son is aboard the USS Michael Murphy. He arrived in Virginia on Sept. !2, after a 12 day leave. This is is very first assignment and I cannot tel you how proud his brother, sister, and I are of him to be assigned this ship named after a courageous young man. I wish I could be at the commissioning, but I ahve recently had some serious health issues and I my doctor won't let me travel that far. However, I will be there in spirit, wishing all the sailors of the USS Michael Murphy the best.

Ha ha, I have no idea what an FC is or where E5 is on the list. My son started out as a cook just to get in he was in such a hurry and now has several jobs I understand. I am thrilled to meet another mom though! Did your son sign on for 6 or more or did he just reup?

I am just over reacting, he is a Big Boy,It is just the first time  he has been away,Only been on a deep sea boat in Key west,so I didn't know if he would get sea sick? I guess  being on a ship=being sick ( I really like that) thanks, so true.

A great day for our Sailors yesterday!  I have enjoyed seeing the pictures and videos of the ship's Sail Away.  Looking forward to seeing our Sailors and the ship soon!

Almost time for our sailors to be pulling out of Bath Iron Works!  Fair Winds and Following Seas to all of them. The beginning a journey they will remember for a lifetime.

Mother and others......Have you requested your "Letter of Recognition" from your sailor's Mayor?  Any Responses yet?  I know there have been quite a few request sent out and a few responses.  I have received 25 governor's letters at this point.  I am working on sending second requests to get the remaining states.  Excited to start putting all of the letters together.
