I gave my daughter a digital camera before she left, but I made sure it ran on AA batteries and sent her a pack of batteries.  I wasn't for sure whether they had a way of charging them on the ship or not.  My daughter sends me emails pretty regular, I can ask her and let you know.

My daughter finally got on the ship and sent me an email.  It was so good to hear from her.

We need to be careful with what info we are giving out. Full names, jobs, destinations, dates...etc. Your sailor may feel comfortable telling you but that doesn't mean you should be that comfortable posting that information on a public site. I hope everyone is doing well. :)

Mary, I just joined up too.  My daughter also just joined up with the USS Paul Hamilton in Bahrain Thursday.  I have not heard anything from her yet. This site seems like a godsend since I have not heard from her.  You get great info and everyone is so nice.  Welcome!

Good morning, All!

Eleanor--did you get my message?  Did that help at all?

My daughter, Amanda, just left Great Lakes, IL where she had boot camp and schooling.  She is now headed to Bahrain to meet up with the USS Paul Hamilton.  She will be stationed in Hawaii.  Her plane left yesterday.  Will she be able to communicate with me to let me know she got there safe?  Does anyone know how long the ship will be out before it returns to Hawaii?
