Hi wismama, I hear from my boy about once a week via email. On good weeks I hear from him multiple times. He's definatley homesick which would explain why I hear from him more than most. They're still out and I believe pull into a port next week. I sure do wish they would update the Facebook page more often but I guess it's better than what families prior to fcebook had :)

Anyone heard for anyone there lately? Just curious and missing that boy.

Me too! just wish they would update their page more often.  I haven't received anything in regards to a newsletter :(  My son was actually in 2 pics from the steel beach, the football catch and then in the background on another.  I see a lot of pics that his shipmates tag him in on fb of their outings off the ship.  He emails a quick line every few days so i am always replying with additional questions to keep the dialogue going so he knows he has to reply to his mom! lol!  Hope everyone is doing well :)

Lady bug... I am another lurker on Facebook. thought I saw my son in one of the pics.... he is behind others; but I think I recognize his hairline. (He will hate this so I hope he doesn't find out) His hairline in "more mature" than some of the others. :)

Have a great day!

This is beautiful and I think you ar defineatly speaking for all of us Navy Moms. I can personally relate to the part about "our phones becoming part of our bodies" Mine is with me everywhere I go.  On Sunday 2 weeks ago I had my phone with me in church (on vibrate of course) I got a call from my son. My husband and I  both jumped up and went out so we could talk to him. We came back in church to finish the service and afterwards some of the church members were concerned that somthing bad had happened since we both jumped up and went out. We let them know everything is OK but had to talk to our son. Cause as you know we ARE NOT  gonna miss a phone call since they are few and far between. Also the part about teens getting into trouble with drugs, theft etc. That really hit home with us. Both of my sons having close friends and high school classmates that are into these things just breaks my heart for them and their families. And lastly the part about responsibility. I honestly do not think my sons would be as reponsible as they are today without the military career that they have. I say this because me as a parent would want to help them with everyday decisions like, jobs, bills, any decision they would let me make for them, I would do. So now they are their own men, paying their bills, getting up everymorning (by themselves) making their own decisions and the list goes on and on.....  So I can say I miss them everyday and sometimes wish they were home with us. But if your not in a military family you don't really understand the concept that "I am glad they are where they are but I wish they were at home" I know that contradictory but its how I feel.

A thought I had today and it's a little long, but I think we all can relate...

To my sailor...

I remember the day we found out you would bless our lives, from that moment on we had many thoughts, hopes and wishes of the person you would become. Through the years we have spent many sleepless nights, at first with a newborn, then a sick child or a child going through life's natural obstacles. Then there were the teen years, driving and making your own decisions, not always the best decisions, but you made it through. We have felt your pain, celebrated your happiness and tried to teach you to be a person of good character, great morals and a kind heart.

Today...our phones have become a part of our bodies and we pray for e-mails and the sweet sound of skype! DO NOT mistake this for us not approving of the path you chose in life, we could not be more proud of you!  You are truly becoming the best person you can be and we take great pride in knowing we had something to do with that.

We look around us and many of our youth is falling prey to theft and drug abuse, talk about sleepless nights...A parents worst nightmare and my heart goes out to them.

SO, the fact that we miss you because of where you are and what you are doing, we can deal with it !! And in the process, we have expanded our family, to include ALL military families, we are here to support each other the way our military "kids" support each other.

You have accomplished every hope and dream we had for you and MORE ! You are an amazing, hardworking, responsible and caring person !!!

I am so proud to call you Mine !!

Heard from my son yesterday, just as they were leaving AGAIN.  Like Wismama said I would like to visit but they in port one day out the next. He said he is trying to study some for the big test but not much time for that, especially these last 2 months. Glad everyone is hearing from their sailors. Funny as were talking he was using alot of "Navy Terms" and I would have to say " Now what are you talking about or what does that mean" lol. You would think after having a son in the Navy (his brother) for over 5 years I would be more "up" on it. :)

Finally heard from my sailor on Saturday; just texting but still nice. Haven't heard from him since before they left. Hope my son gets to come home for a visit soon. I would be happy to go visit him too but don't know when to try and go with them coming and going so much. No pics of my boy yet either. Guess the CS's jobs aren't exciting enough to photograph. Told him to try and Jump in somewhere; like Aaron Rodgers of the Packers; he is always jumping into pics of team mates and making bizarre faces. Kind of like the wierd background person.
