Its not ideal, but maybe plan a wedding in a rental home on the beach near where he is station just in case he can't get the weekend off he could trade any Saturday shifts so he could attended.

A good command generally means good people to work with, and for. Bosses AND co-workers (shipmates). Even the crappiest old ship can be a great place to work if your chain of command is good. Shore duty can be hell if you have a bad workcenter. I was stationed at the same place twice, once it was terrific, and once it was absolutely horrible. All depends on the people.

Anit M, can you give me an example of what you mean by a great command? Like ship, homeport, or do you mean bosses? Just a little confused (: Thanks! And I'll def keep you updated!

He may luck out and get a great command.  Some of them really do make life easier for their sailors.  Let us know how it goes, of course!

Thanks, yall. He said that since he will be an IT, it should be easier since he has heard that a lot of the time shore duty is assigned. I just had no idea that him coming home for a couple of days would be a big deal. :\ Especially for getting married. He said that you can also extend the liberty miles with a special chit. But if he gets based in GA, SC, or VA, it should be fine. (We live in NC). By the time we get married in May, he will have been stationed for 3 months. So, hopefully that will be enough time for him to be able to take some leave time (4 days).

I agree, always try!  Sometimes you will be the lucky one.

Just always have that Plan B ready to implement!

My husband and I got married while he was at his station in Jacksonville and we were able to do our big white wedding. However, he had been in the Navy four years, we had been engaged for fourteen months (so everyone on his ship was well aware when it came time to put his leave chit in), he was getting ready to do a pcs, and his captain was a close, personal friend of my family (his son and my brother played soccer together and our families carpooled), so it was super easy for us. But its like Anti M said, don't count on it his first year in. However, that's no reason not to at least try. The worse that can happen is they say no. Good luck (:

Every base and command has a liberty miles limit. Most of the time, the sailors must take leave to exceed this limit, but sometimes they can request extended liberty miles via a special request chit.

Do NOT count on time off during his first year at his first command.  He's the new guy, it is unlikely.  Perhaps you can squeeze in a four day weekend.  But he may be deployed, you never know until he checks in and finds out his ship's or command's operating schedule.  With a C school of 16 weeks, he may get orders to his follow on command shortly after he begins. When that happens, you can look up his ship or command and get an idea.  Maybe.

Sadly, what you want and what the Navy wants are often two very different things.  You must consider a courthouse wedding as an option, something to talk about and see if it will work for you, him, and your families.

Brady was able to come home on weekends when he was stationed in JAX, but he took leave days or asked for special permission to leave the certain area. Here in Tucson, the guys are able to go to San Diego, Las Vegas, Anheim, and Long Beach, which are all 6-9 hrs away thats alot more than 200 miles. It takes a while to build  up  leave which he might have to use to come home for you"White wedding". Lots of couple do the JOP then plan a nicer wedding for family to attend (Some people don't even let people know they got married in the first place).
