Yes, I know and have met all the presidents of the 3 chapters in wisconsin. All 3 are active and are all very supportive.

I see you all are talking about the Blue Star Mothers.

Here's the link so you can look for a group in your area.

I see there is a chapter up by you, I sent an email to the person associated with southern chapter. I will see if it is active. I just need to stay busy. Hopefully bandmom can find a chapter near her.

My son has been in since 2011 and the first years were hard, but not as bad as when he was deployed last year. A few years ago, I joined the Blue Star mothers of Wisconsin and this has helped me through a few rough times. 1 time I just contacted the BSM's in my chapter and they were right there for me and would have been with me in person if I needed it. IT helps to have other moms available to talk to at anytime as they truly understand what you are going through. By being active in our events including sending care packages out to other military sons and daughters,  I feel like I am helping other mothers. WE also so some events to help our veterans. By doing some of these things, I do get my mind in a better place when helping others. Hope this helps.

Band mom. So when they deploy are the always assigned to a ship? Probably sounds like a stupid question. My background is army not navy. So I’m just trying to understand.

Smoothsailing,  I have done a little research, and they are like the contact between you and your sailor.  Evidently they are there to send messages, and they keep you up to date on the ships happening.  They are also there to answer questions.  I went onto Facebook and found USS Stockdale Ombudsman.  I sent them a message, and got a reply that they will get back to me within 48 hours.  There is also a list of dates for shipping packages for Christmas.

Hopefully momc can answer you. I honestly wouldn’t know where to start looking for that nor do I know what their role is. I’m interested in knowing.

I have ordered the book.  I live in a small town with no book store. How do you get on the Ombudsmans  list?  Does my sailor have to put me on?

Comment by Smoothsailing on October 16, 2018 at 7:57am

Get that book! It’s going to help you. It’s like you have to give yourself permission to let go.  This will be me soon and I have no idea how I will handle it. Stay busy- seems like such pathetic advice but what else is there?
