I received this from the Curtis Wilbur Ombudsman:

CNFJ RADIATION ANNOUNCEMENT

All,

At approximately 0700 local (Japan) time, sensitive instrumentation on
USS
GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN 73) pier-side in Yokosuka, detected low levels of
radioactivity from the Fukushima Dai-Ichi Nuclear Power Plant.  While
there
is no danger to the public, Commander, Naval Forces Japan is
recommending
limited precautionary measures for personnel on Fleet Activities
Yokosuka
and Naval Air Facility Atsugi, including:

A.  Limiting outdoor activities.
B.  Securing external ventilation systems as much as practical.

These measures are strictly precautionary in nature.  We do not expect
that
any United States Federal radiation exposure limits will be exceeded
even if
no precautionary measures are taken.  We are continuing to analyze the
situation and will update you as we learn more.

Sara, PS is Personnel Specialist. Do you know if there is an N4M Group for USS Shiloh? Have you heard from your salior? Are they helping with the disaster?

I also received this from my son.

All,

Just in case you don't have it, here is the Command Ombudsman email
address: ddg54omb@yahoo.com.   She has sent out numerous emails with
information concerning Yokosuka, the ship (below) and the earthquake.
If your love ones would like to get on her email chain, please shoot her
a quick email to ddg54omb@yahoo.com - make sure they identify themselves
as a loved one of a CURTIS WILBUR crewmember.   Also, CFAY now has
Family Assistance Center operational.  Their numbers are:
243-1728/1729/1730

Very respectfully,
CMC Blunt

My thoughts and prayers are for all those in Japan. My daughter will be heading out there next month. I'm excited and scared all in one.

Zach said they were able to watch CNN on the ship and they're all shocked at what's going on. I think we were very fortunate that they were underway during this disaster.
