Does anyone have sarge.s phone number?
Good Morning!
Yes, he can meet you when you get there. I know there is not a problem with getting the pass...so I wouldn't worry about it. Yes, you would have to be out there even before the roosters are up if you want to be there when they arrive! :-)
KIM: Your sailor has to get the gate pass with you when he/she checks in. You need to be their with proper ID. Don't worry...they love their sailors in Chicago and I have never heard of someone having a problem getting the gate pass...Unless with a HUGE group where they can't issue passes to everyone.
hk: I agree with FTLW. No telling when he may have to fly out. Could be as early as 6 a.m. on Sat. morning. Only way the cost of that hotel (I'm sure it's very pricey!) would be worth it is if he happened to be one who has a late afternoon/early evening flight. He should know by PIR day when his flight is. Maybe you can book the Ohare hotel then if he has a later flight? Yes, sounds like you will be double booking for Friday night then, but whatever makes you and your new sailor happy! :-)
Good morning everyone!
Bumped up "After PIR Liberty& Friday and Saturday Departures".
hk1853 - Is your SR flying out for "A" school? If so, then they will be taken to the airport around 1-2 AM...check in and then it's anyones guess as to when they actually leave. All recruits are taken at the same time no matter when their flight leaves. You may not know this info or which airport until PIR day. (This can ALWAYS have variations to it - this is "the Basics" of it. PLEASE see the post in the Discussion Forum titled "After PIR Liberty& Friday and Saturday Departures").
We do advise staying until Sunday if you can...some have to be back home or cannot because of the extra cost. BUT if you can...it's a good idea. Then if they leave late on Saturday you can spend the day with them at the airport...get some sleep and go home on Sunday. If they leave early then you can get some rest...sight see etc and still go home Sunday! LOL
What happened to me was my son PIR'd on a Thursday on Memorial Day weekend...he was slated to leave Friday...but I booked through until Sunday on the off chance that he would get more liberty...I flew out to GL on Tuesday and that was still the plan at the time. When I arrived he had called while I was in the air and it had all changed...liberty until Saturday night (no overnight though...returned to base each night and he had watch on Friday during some of it), and he left Sunday morning out of Midway. My flight home was Sunday out of O'Hare in the afternoon.
Idk where ill be booking it. I leave feb 2 and will be heading back home on feb 4 since he maybe leaving that same night or the next morning. but idk where i would be staying at since all the hotels cost a lil over 63 dollars a night
