Waiting for the mailman to come up the road and hopefully a letter from my SR will be there.

I am thinking about booking my flight with Alaska (they allow 1free bag) and it's pretty easy to change the date if i can stay longer on PIR weekend. You only have to pay the difference between the flight you purchased and the current cost. Most of the time i only had to pay an extra 50-75 dollars. I plan on renting a car and using my entertainment book coupon for 50% off and staying at the navy lodge on base.

I'm debating either booking through southwest and then potentially changing the ticket if he leaves early or gets to stay longer over the weekend, OR booking a one way and then either booking a seperate flight back or driving home with my sr's parents.  And I'm definitely going to look into both of those hotels.  I'm not sure what his family is going to do, but there will be three of them.  I think we'll probably just get two rooms in the same hotel, but I'll have my own.  We'll see.  Oh planning!

Thank you @Betsy!!! I actually was just looking into them after some googling, and you're right.  They're more expensive, but I figure it'll be worth it.  Flying from Buffalo will cost around 400.  Could be worse!

I've been checking out flights, hotels, and car rentals. I'll probably be booking everything within the next week or so. :)

I didn't know that about Southwest. I thought all airlines charged for flight changes. I also forgot about the 2 free checked bags. Man I'm glad you said something. As you can see I haven't flown in a while. I think we're going with Springhill Suites.
Comment by Betsy, mom of Stennis sailor on December 13, 2011 at 11:40am

hk1853, if you can fly on Southwest, they are a good choice.  You are allowed 2 free checked bags and if you have to change your flight, there is no penalty.

KIM756 , the Residence Inn has 2 suites and kitchens and a warm breakfast, so a lot of people like to stay there.  It was recommended to me by diannep and I loved it there.  It's also pet friends.  I have also heard that people like the Springhill Suites, which is very close to a shopping area and some restaurants

Comment by hk1853 on December 13, 2011 at 11:08am

What would you recommend for flights?  I've seen some cheap one ways, and then booking another one way return when we know what's actually going to happen?  Or a refundable ticket?

Comment by KIM756 on December 13, 2011 at 11:05am
Has anybody started making travel plans? Wondering where a good, inexpensive place is in Waukegan or Gurnee. We are looking at Country Inn & Suites by Carlson in Gurnee. Any suggestions?

Sunshine:  Processing Days vary for each SR depending on the time they arrive and how the divisions fill up.  Doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason for it.  Glad you were on the other group, getting info, until this one was started.

Welcome eliac and hk1853~

Now that the group is starting to fill up here, please start asking any questions you all have.  Before you do though, please read through the discussions posted above where FTLW and I have posted info for you.  Still have questions?  Please ask!  We are here to help.  FTLW, Lala, Betsy, Sandy and I are all N4Moms veterans on the PIR sites...here to help you get through this emotional rollercoaster called bootcamp!  :-)

Good morning, all!
