For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Comment by tmacsmom on January 19, 2012 at 10:09pm: Ladies, I have been MIA for bit, but have to say - I have been receiving updates via my Blackberry and you all keep me going day to day. I can't wait to meet all of you and I know we especially cannot wait for PIR 2/3 to see our SR's.

Betsy, I am in Texas now, but grew up outside of Bremerton - it's absolutely beautiful up there. Your SR will love it!

If anyone receives dates for 911 Battlestation, please inbox me, I'll do likewise!

I figured he would only be allowed out with us for a certain time during the day, but it's ok!! And I will check with Sarge, thanks!

Comment by diannep on January 19, 2012 at 9:44pm: deanna: Yes, they are threatened with their lives if they don't pass these last tests. If they don't pass the final PFA, they go into FIT DIVISION and keep trying until they do. This usually happens before PIR and they are there---if it doesn't, then they keep trying in FIT until they do pass, but miss PIR. The ones who pass the PFA before PIR will do BattleStations with another division or even PIR group (many times, the next PIR group will go the night before PIR for the group before them). If he doesn't pass the academic test in time, they are set back, I believe. Have never heard of them being setback for not passing an inspection...thinking that is a "motivator" comment being made to them. Also, on BattleStations, if they don't pass, they get to go through again with the next group. Most all pass...only a handful in each PIR group usually have to repeat, if anyone.

I'm surprised they are keeping him until the 6th since we had heard all that were flying out do so over the weekend. However, if his orders say that, that would be the case! He would have weekend daytime visitation, but must be back at night. Same with those staying in GL for A School. No overnights.

On your son's gf's situation, check with SARGE and see if he or his guys will be out at the airport at that time for someone else. They charge by the car, not people---so he could let her ride with the others. He is cheaper than a regular cab. Nice guy with lots of info (as are those who work with him). 847-212-0246 You can call him or text him. He is the one who has the MeetNGreet.

Comment by deanna on January 19, 2012 at 9:36pm: Lani let me know what time ya'll are going to do the train into Chicago. My son called again today. (Rewards I guess he didn't elaborate). He wants to relax some but wants to do stuff too. I think he would enjoy the train, tower and Pizza too. Unless the train takes the 2 1/2 hours and the car ride would be 40 minutes we might rethink it. Everybody he says pray for one more inspection, a written test and battlestations! He is still really concerned about being sent back 2 weeks if he doesn't pass any of those.

Comment by FireTeamLeaderWife aka FTLW on January 19, 2012 at 7:54pm: Alicia - Woo - Hoo...you're one of the lucky ones who has a "fly out" that doesn't leave until Monday! That would be the "exceptions" on the "Saturday Departures"!
He will have to return to base each night and there is a chance that he will have watch on at least one of those days. Now, as far as that is concerned...he may get lucky and have it during the night. My son had watch on Saturday during the day from 4-6 PM :-(...but we did get to meet him at Ricky Heaven for the remainder of his liberty that night. His time to report back at night was different each time. RTC does not "normally" allow overnight liberty.
Flexibility is the key!

All of my moms side of the family is in Tacoma and Puyallup and my husbands brother who just retired as a Chief Petty Officer after 22 years in the Navy is up near Bremerton, so it would give me great reason to go visit!! Congrats to your son!
