I am getting so excited, and hungry for pizza!!! And I got a letter from my son today! So this raises a question actually. He said he got his orders and he will fly out to A school on Monday the 6th. Does this mean he has the weekend to do what ever he wants? Or will he still have to report to RTC every night until he leaves?
I have another question. My sons girlfriend had to switch her flight and won't be flying into O'Hare until 6:40 pm on thursday the 2nd. She is planning on taking a taxi to the hotel (Sleep Inn in Lake Bluff just a mile west of the base), but I tought maybe if any of you were also leaving the airport around the same time she could share a cab or shuttle and cut down on costs for you. Message me if you are interested!
Angelwetz (Ship 07 Div 060 I am also staying at springhill. Hope to see you there. I will be there on 2/2/12 if there is no closers on the airports.
navymom88: Haven't heard from anyone with a BattleStations date for 911 yet. If anyone has one, please message it to me. I have started a schedule.
So great that you were a swimmer too!
Camo Mom: We do hear dates for the 800 divisions, so be sure to ask your SR if he has one. Message it to me if you get one please.
Angel: Many take their laptops to A school...just depends on which A school and what the sailor wants to do. Some arrive at A school and immediately buy a laptop.
Betsy, haven't scrolled back through the posts yet, but thinking that your sailor is going to be based out of WA? My nephew is in Seattle (Microsoft) and loves it. Neat place to be, although they sure have had a bunch of snow recently! He loves it there because they can do so many things around there...skiing in Canada, boating, etc. Are you sure your son won't have to fly to the ship? The friend that you and I have from Maryland just had that happen to her sailor..he will fly out to his ship next week. But maybe it is because they are not even halfway into their deployment. Keep us posted!
Lani - No I didn't...sorry I didn't clarify... the METRA discussion up above is the train that is just outside Great Lakes (gate 8 on Ohio...the MAPS of RTC post tells how to get to the station) that will take you into Chicago. It is inexpensive and I wanted to just for the heck of it...but the times on Saturday did not work for us as we had movie tickts purchased and so had to be back at a certain time. I believe Sarge will have good info for taking the train.
HK1853: It is about 1/4 to 1/2 mile walk from the front gate where shuttles drop off to PIR hall. If there is snow, will the heels on the boots work? They keep the paths pretty clear, but of course if it happens to be snowing the day you are there, I would be wearing some nice warm rubber soled snow boots (which I did and they were great!)! Carry the others with you and switch inside the PIR hall. Some do that if they want to wear heels for PIR.
Lani, everything is pretty close in the area. Which MeetNGreet are you talking about? I think both are pretty close. Sarge's is only about 4 miles from RTC and Navy Lodge is about a mile from RTC. So you are good!
We didn't go into Chicago when we were up there ...it was in the 20's and that was cold enough for us to kind of want to stay inside either a restaurant, hotel room, or car!
It's 7 degrees there now, Lani...aren't you glad that you and I live here this time of yr? Now, when hurricane season starts and our humidity/heat come back, well....we envy everyone else! :-)
Not snowing there yet...but it's coming.
