Thanks, Marcy:  Yes, so sad that they will be attending his funeral on the day they should have been celebrating their reunion with him after bc.  I know all who will be at PIR will be thinking of him...Lala was kind enough to make some ribbons in memory of Christopher for the ladies of PIR 1/20 to wear, which was wonderful.  Prayers for comfort for his family/friends...

Marcy - Thank you for posting about the recruit passing. It is sad and I know there is a sadness at bootcamp. We can all give a moment of prayer to their family.

God Bless them!

Marcy....thanks you so much for posting that. Instead of being at their son's PIR on Friday, they will be at his funeral. So very sad.

Christopher Andrew Walker, 19, of Kittanning, known by his family as "Bubby", known by his many friends as "Dr. Bob" and "Christabelle", passed away Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2012, in Great Lakes, Ill., in his last week of Naval basic training. Born Dec. 16, 1992, he was a son of Jason and Laurie Walker. He was a 2011 graduate of Lenape Vo-Tech LEIT program, graduating with honors. He is remembered by friends for his sense of humor, love of animals and his willingness to help others. He enjoyed hunting with his Pap, going on the wagon train every year with his fiancee, Amber Stewart, and her family, and spending time with his friends. He involved himself in charity groups such as the Caring Foundation and Orphans of the Storm. He devoted himself to causes such as the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation and planned to make donations after graduation in honor of his fiancee, Amber. He is survived by his parents, Jason and Laurie Walker; sister, Samantha Jo Walker; fiancee, Amber Stewart; grandparents, Harold and Sandra Schaeffer; great-grandmother, Dixie Schaffer; grandparents, Betty Rose and Clyde Walker; aunt, Sherri, and uncle, Roger Kaplon; cousins, Brandon and Connor; aunt, Aggie Hockenberry and family; and aunt, Maria Feracioly and family. He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents, Charles and Delores Gillis; and great-grandfather, Harold Schaeffer Sr. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the SNYDER-CRISSMAN FUNERAL HOME, Kittanning. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the funeral home with Pastor Ralph Kilgore officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Union/David Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to JDRF: Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Western Pa. Chapter, 960 Penn Ave., 1000, Pittsburgh, PA 15222, 412-471-1414 , westernpa<\@>jdrf.org,www.jdrf.org/westernpa or Orphans of the Storm, P.O. Box 838, Kittanning, PA 16201, 724-548-4520 . This is the Obit for the young SR that passed away. I thought I would share it with you guys. Some said they wanted to send flowers or something. I don't mean to make you guys sad again but I figured you guys would like to see this. If you want you can make donations and they are at the bottom of the Obituary.

Gayle thanks for sharing the link for that coin, I think I will have to order one of those! I like that you can personalize it!  I actually ordered this one a few days ago. Guess he"ll get two coins instead of just the one!

Diannep...I'm in deep south dade in Chtler Ridge. Where are you? My daughter's coat arrived yesterday so I'm ready to go, except I'm dreading the cold. I'm a wimp.
Comment by Betsy, mom of Stennis sailor on January 18, 2012 at 10:14am

dianne, can I come too?  lol

No snow here yet this year, but, oh boy, that wind today is brutal and cold.

Gayle, I love the coin!!  Thank you!

I got two letters yesterday!!!! My mailman actually told me "you got letters!" I love my mailman :)

In one of the letters, my SR told me about the fallen recruit.  they all know about it, he said they saw him put in the ambulance.  Also that there is a sadness there.  other than that, he sounded great!

I'm thinking my Sailors should get based in the Keys then I would just move down there :-)

You're welcome, eljac.

Lala, you know you can come on down whenever you like!  60's at night here; may hit 80 today.  Humidity is coming back...I can tell because my hair is starting to frizz again!  :-)

Good morning all!
