I received a call tonight! YAY!!! Simply fantastic!

QUESTION: How many Divisions will be graduating at PIR 2/3?

Roughly how many Sailors? Just curious!!

Comment by diannep on January 16, 2012 at 9:21pm

eljac:  Are you driving in from Chicago on PIR morning?  Or will you be in GL?  Because the hotel shuttles are a great way to go...and some like to drive too.  You would only take the Metra if coming in from Chicago.  The train station is right next to the base.  We took the shuttle from our hotel and it was wonderful.  Bypassed the car line.  Left on the 6:30 shuttle from Residence.  Sailor rode back with us afterwards.

Push divisions do all of the same work as the other divisions, but have a few days less to accomplish it in.  Don't worry...they get it all done!

Hi everyone, I am counting down the days and starting to make my list of things to take.  We are driving from Florida so hopefully the weather will be good enough for driving.  I will be bringing a winter coat along with many layers since I am used to  warm weather.  Does anyone have an opinion on whether it is easier to drive in to the base or take the metro train?

Comment by winterrosebud (Ship 12 Div 053) on January 16, 2012 at 7:22pm

The only thing i have heard about push divisions is that they get through boot camp faster, and their training is pushed up by a week or two, and they graduate immediately after battlestations instead of doing more training. Many times they finish in 7 weeks instead of the typical 8-9 weeks.

Has anyone received letters stating there gonna call us this week?

Comment by Army/Navymama on January 16, 2012 at 7:09pm

I'm so happy everyone is also wearing nice pair of jeans & sweaters. One of the Mom's was saying she was thinking about wearing a dress. Go right ahead Mama you'll regret it! I'm a Texas girl I don't like cold weather, but I know I can dress up a pair of jeans & boots.

Does anyone know what a "push division" is?
Comment by Betsy, mom of Stennis sailor on January 16, 2012 at 6:12pm

I agree with the other ladies.  A coat is a necessity, even if you just borrow one.  My son graduated in Dec, 2010 and it was pretty cold then.

Navymom88, I am staying at Spring Hill Suites.
I also thought dirty dozen sounds like cleaning the heads. I also heard the the trash cans are called Big Birtha! Sounds like they do have some fun!

Ok, ladies....so.....the wind off Lake Michigan is brutal as you are walking to PIR or around GL---the base is very close to the Lake, by the way!  I didn't have a coat either (living in S FL) but did order one online.  On sale...not much money...and thank goodness I did.  I was up there this same weekend...2 yrs ago.  I was never cold, thanks to layers and....THE COAT!  HA!  And, yes, winterrosebud is correct.  The SRs' trenchcoats are so so warm.  My son said he never got cold.
