I got a letter, my son is 07/060 PIR on 02/03. He told me that he will be leaving for the airport at 0300 on Saturday morning, but was not sure what time his plane takes off. I don't know about others leaving for A school, but we won't be getting much time, or at least I won't, boo. He said he really likes it. That made me happy!

Lani, I am girl scout leader as well. We are not doing booth sales though. I myself just don't have the time to do it. My daughter has sold 102 boxes so far. One of our girls sold almost 200. That is so good being we are a brand new troop. We just got started in November because of all the things you have to do to start a troop. We have 18 girls in our troop.

Betsy, I am a HUGE Steeler fan. Who are you guys playing today? Even though I don't care for the Ravens, good luck to them. I think you know how the Steeler fans and Ravens fans feel about each of their teams. I was really hoping Denver would have won, even though they beat us last week, against the Patriots. I do not like the Pat's at all. Sorry if there are any Pat's fans on here.

Marcy, Woah, that is cold.  Brrr!

Lani,  ((hugs))

I will be MIA for a bit today.  It's a Raven's football day!  Woohoo!  Hopefully I will be back tonight reporting on our win.

Oh I will definately let you know if I go. I am sure I will be so emotional I am sure. I would like my sister to go with though too. I doubt she will though, she doesn't like those kind o]\f things not that anyone does.

Man it is 6 degrees here in PA this morning. It was 3 when I got up. It is going to be around 40 tomorrow and rain. We have snow now. It looks so pretty. I am ready for spring though. Then later in the week in the 20's then back up in the 40's. If it is going to be winter then be winter, quit with the up and down temps

Lani, your post made me tear up. It would be interesting if they did go but I don't think I could go just because i would be thinking of him and he should be there and all kinds of stuff. Once a Navy mom always a Navy mom no matter what.

Lani:  You and me...Miami girls far from the action up there!  :-(  But aren't we loving this weather right now?  My early morning 2 mile walk is wonderful in this chilly low-humidity weather!

Beautiful post below. Yes, heartbreaking to think about a letter arriving like that after his death...but then again, what a treasure.  When my brother died suddenly 4 yrs ago we were in shock..  Just a day after we learned of his death, my mom received a birthday card from him in the mail with his always-special message to her written in.  She arrived at my front door, tears streaming down her face holding the card out to me---my heart broke, but what a treasure that card has been to her.  Brutally hard to receive in the beginning though when emotions are so raw...then a joy to have received.

Wow, wouldn't that be something if his family did go.  I know they would be embraced with so much love.  But what an emotionally hard journey for them...will be interesting to see.  Regardless, they are forefront in our prayers for comfort at a time that is just heartbreaking.

I agree with Lani, Marcy.  Not sure if others on this site could make the funeral, but you are definitely representing all of us ladies here on this site if you go...please give them hugs and prayers from their Navy4Moms family.

Comment by Lani on January 14, 2012 at 11:29pm

I have been busy with Girl Scout cookie booths all day and haven't been able to be on here today.  Marcy....that would be wonderful if you could go to the funeral. I wish I could be, but I'm here in Miami.  I received 3 letters on Thursday and 1 letter on Friday (Yay!) , but I can't stop thinking about the recruit and his family. I keep thinking....what if his family opened their mailbox the last few days and also had a letter?  Would that be unbelievable sadness to get a letter from him after his death, or comfort???? It's so sad that he made a decision (like our family members) to defend our country and died before he got the chance. I also wonder about PIR.  They must have been so excited since it was only a week away.  I wonder if they will still go?  I'm sure everything is already paid for.  Do you still make the trip and meet all the people that your son spent his last 2 months on Earth with?   When else would you be able to meet them?  Wouldn't you want to hear stories that they have to tell about how your son was doing?  It's so sad that for the last 2 months of his life, he had such little contact with his parents. My heart just breaks for them.  No matter what we are all dealing with, remember that there is someone else with bigger problems.  If you are able to go Marcy, please tell them we are all praying for them and please let us know it was.  I hope the place is packed with people coming out to support them. If you hear when and where, please let us know.  I would love to send some flowers to support our Navy family.
