This is a great idea!  I'm from the South Bay area; can't wait to meet some of you in person someday!

DevilDocMom661 - Sounds like your son is way ahead of mine.  My son just graduated from school in San Antonio.

Glad your son is back in the US safe and sound!

BQB, thank you for stopping by.  We have a long way to go to be like SF Bay Area group, but what an inspiration.

I have added BQB's post as a Discussion so that we can use it as a game plan.  First things first, have our initial meeting in January and then maybe we can start working on various areas within LA.  Nice to know that there are ways to accomodate such a vaste region.

Please check it out, think about the long term plans.   For those of your who feel that the 10 & 405 are too far away, please join anyway.  I think subgroups are in our future.

This group was needed. So Cal is a BIG area. I grew up in Glendale. Graduated from USC. I am the creator and admin of the San Francisco Bay Area Navy Families group. Feel free to check out our group to get hints on how you want to organize your group.

We are not very chatty but we do love to get together. Since October of 2009 - we have had about 20-22 meet and greets - about one every 4 to 6 weeks. We have had 25 people at my house (the largest turn out) to just 4 for mid week luncheon. We normally don't invite the Navy recruiters because we (as moms) are more interested in connecting with each other. Besides, the Navy doesn't need additional advertising. It's oversubscribed.

Here are links to some of our meet and greets. Feel free to copy cat us - don't have to reinvent the wheel.

Some tips for meet and greets:

  • Typically, if the meet and greet is at a member's home, the address is sent to the members attending only and not published on the event.
  • After the Event organizer inputs the event, I normally post a link in the group's page. I use the section ABOVE the Discussion Forum like a bulletin board. You'll see this if you go to the San Fran group page. You can also post a link and invite people in your other groups.
  • You can also invite your friends to the Event.

My son will be completing his 5th year in the Navy next April. He will be leaving to explore his options in the civilian world. I have met some wonderful friends all due to Navy For Moms. In fact, one came to see me from OK for our Oct meet and greet. By the way, Cat1 should be joining this group. She is in the greater LA area. She came up to San Jose for one of our meet and greets. Also contact ProudNavyNanette. Both great ladies.

I'll stay around for a week or so in case you have any questions. Have fun.

BunkerQB.

It is a small world DisneyDebi :) Thanks for the nice post Bandito( I know your real name :) Congratulations on your son becoming a sailor in two weeks. Now you know why I was wearing all the proud Navy mom stuff when you met me. It is another world that we all share. I am so happy this group is hopping!

I am sooooo happy that this group is growing!  Really looking forward to January when we will all get to meet.  Anyone who wants to volunteer to co-ordinate the event, please friend me.  Hopefully, we will get such a great response that we will need tons of help.

My son is currently still in bootcamp and will PIR 11/4, then head to Goose Creek for Nuke school.  He will get to be an ET.  He is my one and only, so even though he hasn't been living at home and was married in April, BootCamp was very hard at the beginning.  But, we only have 2 weeks until PIR and I am so proud of him.  I said I was proud before, but the definition of the word was not the same as it is now.  I really respect what he has been through and the commitment that it has taken for him to make it through BC and become a Sailor (soon).

Actually, SusanK and I have met during the last Navy Fleet week, so I hope that she can make the next M&G (already said cant make 21Jan).  It was a really good experience, we connected through one of the other groups and then had communication through text as we tried to find each other in the horrendously long line to see the USS Abraham carrier.  So glad that SusanK was better prepared then I was, she was much further in line than me and let us join her inline!  ( Yay, Navy4Moms!)  Having that experience, I know that we can all benefit from having this group and eventually meeting. ohhh, and watch out for how we co-ordinate nex Navy Week LOL!

Hello everyone,  I have been looking for a group in the Los Angeles area.  I am so glad that Elizabeth invited me.  I live in the San Fernando Valley and I am really excited to meet other Mom's, Wives, loved ones of Sailors with families in the L.A. area.  My situation may be different than many of yours.  My son is becoming a CM-Seabee.  Right now he is at home for the weekend.  His A school graduation is two weeks from today at Port Hueneme and then he will be home.  He is in the reserves. They have told him that he may not deploy until 2014.  Having signed for eight years of reserve duty will have me on pins and needles for many years to come but I feel fortunate to have him home for awhile.  Also, when he first told me he was joining the Navy I thought "Oh good, he'll be safe on a ship."  Little did I know he wanted to be a Seabee and would be "first boots on the ground" right behind the Marines. I am very proud of him, but will be needing a lot of support when he get deployed!  Glad to find a group of ladies nearby!

Elizabeth, I don't know exactly when he is leaving because he is not allowed to tell us. He is on a sub( SSGN the big one). He told me I probably say too much on N4M. I have to be careful because I am open and honest and tell people everything. Not good when you are a Navy Mom. That is why a meet and greet is good. We lived in Sacramento for three years when my husband was training at Davis. No kids at the time so we really enjoyed Sacto and the surrounding areas - San Francisco, Tahoe, and Napa Valley.

DisneyDebi- NC is so far away, I am going to see if I can bring my grandaughter back with me, next time will be her little brothers turn, to much work with both, we had them for two weeks during the summer, as much as I love them, it was time for them to go home.
