Welcome to all Anticipating PIR 10/7/2011!!

This group is for those with loved ones who had PIR on 10/07/2011. (PIR is short for Pass-in-Review and just means graduate from Boot Camp.)

It was an amazing ceremony, an amazing opportunity to see our Sailors perform and participate as an entire group, amazing to hear that wonderful Liberty call and completely overwhelming to get those long awaited hugs.

It is our desire that this Group will provide the information, encouragement, and support you need while your loved one continues their Navy Journey. We are hoping you will continue to come back and update everyone on that journey and continue to seek support and encouragement from friends you have already made here.

My son got his orders yesterday afternoon & is headed for a Frigate in San Diego. He should finish A school this week and graduate on Friday if all goes the way it should.  He said he won't know until the day before if he get to flly home.  I'm hoping he makes it by Thanksgiving since he will miss Christmas.  I hope veryone is doing well along with their Sailors.

My son has been at the Defence Language Institute at Monterey since Oct 8. He was not supposed to start his new language until Nov 15, but they decided to start him in a different kind of class earlier. He says it is "insanely" difficult, but he has always been one to love a challenge. It seems that I communicate with him in one way or another every day. Sometimes it is just texts throughout the day, or e-mail when he can, but after going through basic, it is just great to be able to communicate. He booked his ticket home after getting the ok. I thought it would be cheaper to go through the Navy to get his flight, but he didn't think so. He phased up last week and can leave base throughout the day. I'm not sure when he phases up again to be able to leave overnight. He said he has some work to do before he can get the 2nd phase up, but with 7-8 hours of classes daily, then 4-5 hours of homework on top of PT and watches, there has not been much time for that or for going out.

@ Tammy - what is your son studying that he will be in A school so long.  It's great news that he will be home for Christmas & that he had phased up.  My son phased up the day he received some clothes he had requested.  I said good timing.  The next thing I knew he had taken a picture of himself in his own t-shirt & shorts while on liberty in his pod.  My son hasn't called me much, not really a phone talker, at least not to mom.  He does text me when he can & a week ago Sunday we got to skype with him for the first time.

My son phased up last week and is really enjoying military life at Monterrey. That's a good thing because he should be there for about a year and a half. He started classes last week. He sent me a picture of his stack of books. It was over 2 feet tall and he said he thinks those will only get him through about 6 months. He says his classes are intense but he loves it. He got his tickets to come home for Christmas --dec 15-28. I can't wait to get him home.

@momofbp...I know how you feel, my daughter really does not like to talk on the phone much. She is in San Antonio and has started classes so very busy and not a lot of time to even text. She is really liking the military life.  She phased up a couple weeks ago and has been able to go off base on the weekends which has been nice for her. Hope your son starts classes soon and that you will get to spend Christmas with him.
