I got the box today, but still no letter.  I am like the rest of you, was hoping for the 16th, but will make do with the 29th.  I wonder if since he graduates then, if we will be able to spend New Years Eve with them.  He is staying in Great Lakes for A school, so he won't have to fly out.

Welcome Gcip, RuthL, and AZ Navy Mom!!!!!

@ Gcip - I do not know about the performance groups but we have a couple "veterans" on the site they may have the answer.

@ RuthL - you are so right!  though my family and close friends have been SUPER supportive, having others that are actually going thru this seperation is almost theraputic. lol  If one more person at the local Walmart or bank says - oh, it's just like sending your kid off to college.  UMMMMM - NOOOOOOOO.  IT IS NOT!  I do good to refrain and just send a smile...

@ AZ Navy Mom - The letter will come soon.  Within in few days of the box.  Have tissue's handy! It is a joyous cry to just see your recruits handwriting.  I don't know about anyone else but I've read and re-read the envelope and my recruits personal note to his dad and I.  Can't tell you what anything else said (leaving that to my husband!) but I am comforted just looking at his handwriting.  8-)

I don't think anyone from that divison joined yet. Add a discussion right about this that says "Ship 09, DIV 22" and people will go there and chat :) For now youre welcome to peek into the DIV 21 discussion. Only three of us but at least its someone!

Thank you all for the wonderful wealth of information.  It is so nice to know there is support out there.  Friends and family have been great, but knowing we can talk to people who are going through the exact same things is a comfort.  My daughters form letter said (Ship 09 Div 22) any one else out there with the same?

So I also joined 12-16 (hoping) and now looks like it will most likely be this group. My daughters recruiter told me she is on ship 02 / Div 906. I see that is the performance division. My guess is she got put in band, not sure if she is going to be happy about that. She hasn't played in 2 years. Does anyone know if that means she will not be out on the floor during graduation with everyone else? I'm guessing the band is off together seperate from them? I hope I'm wrong, I so wanted to see her down there with everyone. I am so hoping to get the letter today or tomorrow.

@ Sailor Doc's Mom - We can all empathize.  IT WILL GET BETTER.  Sounds so cliche.  But it will.  It was one week yesterday that my son left and his dad and I are much better this week.  I WAS a crying mess.  Okay, the truth is out now.  I felt like the deepest part of me was taken from my womb...by the Navy. (by my son's own choice!)  NOW, I am a very proud mom of a Navy Recruit.  What I could not teach him in 18 years the Navy will mold him into a man...into a U.S. Sailor.  The ladies on this site are terrific and full of wonderful advise for us that are new to the Navy. 8-)

Hi everyone. My son just left yesterday. I'm assuming his PIR will be 12/29 since I've been informed there is no PIR the week of Christmas. This is going to be tough....I've been wanting to pick up the phone and call or text him to remind him of "this" and tell him not to forget "that". One thing I am grateful for is he did take his phone with him (I know it's coming back in the bag with his clothes and shoes) and was able to call me when he landed in Chicago before going to get dinner. I loved every minute of that last 10 min call, it made the 15 sec one I got a few hours later easier to take.

Good Morning Ladies, I'm another veteran that FTLW mentioned would also be helping on here.   I'm Betsy(momofPensacolasailor) and my son graduated from BC in Dec. 2010.  He is almost finished with his training in Pensacola and will most likely be getting his Orders in January.  I also have another sailor soon to be in our family.  My daughter's fiance is stationed in Hawaii and is on a nuke sub.  I hope I can help with any questions that you might have.  Welcome to our crazy (but wonderful) Navy life.

@ TansMom - did you call his recruiter? He/She should be able to key in your son's ss# and give you the information.  My son's recruiter sent him a letter already.  Knows my kid is a Cardinals and Arkansas Razorback Hog fan so he sent him some newspaper clippings.  So blessed to have that recruiter as I am seeing some on here that are not like that.
