WELCOME new members - TansMom and SailorDocsMom!  I noticed like most of us on this PIR page we were thinking (and hoping!) our recruit divisions missed the cut off for the 12-16.  I am looking forward to that first call and that first letter from my son.  My son signed Jan. '11 for HM Corpseman.  Y'all?

@ Zink - WELCOME to the 12-29-11 group!

We're going a little backwards here as we had the two most current groups started at once.

So some standard stuff...I just can't remember but there are several veteran moms on the PIR groups...diannep, LaLa Ribbon Queen (makes beautiful ribbons for you to purchase and wear to PIR), Betsy, momofPensacolasailor, Sandy's Sailor son, JessicaB SailorMom and myself. I'm the newaest been on since June. Sailor PIR'd in May of this year...so thank you for bearing with some of my inexperience!

We are all here to help you!

Please read the Community Guidelines and OPSEC rules and adhere to them. N4M's has a private messaging system for your use also.

OPSEC is a way of life for your future Sailor and you as their family.

Now that you are getting your ship/divisions go ahead and start your divisional discussions in the Discussion Forum area above.
Click..."+Add Discussion" at the bottom left in the area...its to the left also above the Comment box.
Most just put in the Ship/Div as the title...like this "Ship ##/Div ##" ...without quotes and then you can type in a little greeting in the body of the post. Then other "moms" will be along to join in! It 's a great way to connect up with those in the same ship/div. Oh, we only need one Divisional Discussion per division please...so first one started will be the one kept.
Remember, OPSEC and N4M Community Guidelines apply there also (anywhere on the site actually) .
Also, make sure that you still check in on the main pages of the group here to connect up with the whole TG. We veterans are busy with about 7-8 PIR groups running at one time and so spend most of our time on the main pages of the group to answer questions and give advice.

I will be posting this periodically in the beginning.

Hello Everyone.

Safety for your SR (future Sailor) and you!

Sailors LAST names are NOT allowed anywhere on this site. If your last name is different from your sailors it is still not recommended.

FIRST names ARE allowed but I, and some of the other “veteran” moms, will most often advise you not to use them. This is a public forum and anyone can read the posts-they do not have to be a member (if the group is set to private, the public cannot read but all N4M members can-so all you have to do is join) While they use their last names in BC (in fact they don't usually, if ever, find out each other’s first names until the end of BC), the RDC's know who they are and can then, with the right amount of info, link them up to you. So, let’s say you use your last name in your N4M name, post a picture of your SR...easy to match up...and so on.

Why does that matter? Your SR's are trying to get through BC with as little undue attention as possible. "Fly under the radar", so to speak. There have been reports from moms of their recruits being matched up with them. Some are just identified…some get IT (Intensive Training), I am guessing this depends on WHAT is posted…I know of one mom who said that her son had to do 5 push-ups just for every time she posted!

The MOST important reason for being discreet is OPSEC-Operational Security. This is a way of life for us now. It will be for your Sailors career and for some of them, even more so, depending on their individual security clearance. Some moms have mentioned that even today after years they do not know EXACTLY what their sailor does.

SPECOPS...definitely need to be VERY careful.

@ FTLW - YOU ARE ONE OF THE BEST!  Thank you for posting discussion topics for us.  I am still pretty green!

@ natalie'smom - YAY!  i know when i checked the mail today and saw the envelope I had a huge gasp for air. A Gasp of relief!  More so when I read that he is fine.  I took the letter to his girlfriends house so she could read it as the "P.S." was for her.

Like you, I've written every day.  I numbered them in the event he gets one before the other since I mailed 3 last week and 3 today.  lol

Comment by natalie'smom on November 1, 2011 at 12:13am
I got the form in the mail from my daughter today. My heart was pounding and my hands were shaking. Now I can't wait for the phone call home. I have been writing her since she left last week, so I put all the letters in one envelope and dropped it in the mail. She will have something to read from home with encouragement...She said her PIR is 12/29 as I expected from earlier today from other post
