OPSEC, OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmust importance. Please take the time to read the Opsec and Community Guidelines. A quick note here: Last Names are never allowed on this site. If it is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but discouraged as their RDC's read this site and can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture.

Recruits don't start writing until the second Sunday they are at BC. So about three weeks in or so for your first letter. A MRPO, mail recruit petty officer, has to be trained and pass a test to be able to handle it as the mail is a federal institution
The first "real"call could come about that time too...it's not guaranteed...but usually happens. We call it the ,"I'm still alive"call. If a whole division is calling some moms like to post it. Also, if your recruit doesn't call when everyone else is they could be in watch and may get to call at a later time.

The first real letters usually come between the 2nd and 3rd week they are there. Of course that depends on who the RDC is for each DIV and of course on your recruit. Some are much better at writing home than others :-) I actually got a real letter the day before my form letter but it was weird circumstances, my daughter was in a push DIv, her first first Sunday and Monday there was a holiday weekend so they had extra free time, plus my form letter didn't arrive until she had been gone 14 days.

Now that so many of us have gotten the form letter, when can we expect a real letter or even a phone call? Just throwing that out to the veteran moms out there!

Craig@ thanks for all the great information.  Next Friday will be info from Craig day in my classroom!  (Minus a few tidbits here and there)  What a fun way to honor our VETS and make it fun at the same time!

Michelle:  Why not start the discussion above for Ship 9 Div 24?  Seems that no one has started that yet so you could create it and people will find you as the letters come in.  Welcome!

FTLW, it's ok with me.  It takes me a little bit of time to catch up anyway, *wink.

Hi Ladies, I'm Betsy and another veteran mom that helps out.  Welcome to our crazy Navy mom's world.  We guarantee it will be a fun adventure.  I am lucky enough to have 2 sailors in our family.  My youngest son enlisted during high school and report to BC about 6 months later.  He is just about finished with his training and will be receiving his Orders shortly.  He is a CTT and is currently in Pensacola.  Our family's other favorite sailor is my daughter's fiance, who is an ET finishing up his final year of 6.  He is stationed on a nuke sub in Pearl Harbor, HI where my daughter lives in an apt. with him.

I'm also a recent empty nester mom of 5.

Hi everyone, I don't know how I missed that this group had started lol. I got a message from a mom in this group wanting to order ribbons and I was like wow she really got her order in early then I checked and here you all are lol.

I guess better late than never. I am Lora better known as Lala, Another Navy Mom here to help out with the questions you all will have over the next few weeks. I am happy to see some form letters are arriving :-)
