Ladies. I also recommend "Sarge"  My son used his transport service to and from the airport while in Great Lakes. The staff he has working for him are very reliable. His prices are the most reasonable. Make sure to book early as he is very well respected and liked.

diannep - thanks for everything.  And as our time here ticks away - I just want to give a BIG THANK YOU to all of the veteran mom's/wives.  You have been such a great information source, psychologist, leaning post, and friends for all of us.  I wouldn't have made it without you all - really - I wouldn't have.  You kept me sane and without even meeting you face-to-face I consider you dear friends of mine.  I hope to meet some of you on Friday - but for those that I won't consider this a big hug and heartfelt thanks.  God Bless you all!

That is funny...

Once again...I'm posting "Sarge's" phone number for those who won't have a car for the weekend.  He has a small staff that supplies transportation---to/from the airport, around town, etc...and all are wonderfully full of info for you. Rates are good too!  He is retired military and loves our Navy grads/students in Great Lakes.  There have been nothing but praise reports on this site from ladies who have used his services.

Please put his number in your phone in case you find a need to contact him during the weekend...or before.  He is your own personal taxi service!

desiree:  Scroll through the discussions above.  There are several discussions with this info in it.  Be sure to go to the PIR REFERENCE group too (link provided in that discussion).  Also, at Residence Inn, where we stayed, they gave us a packet of info when we checked in that had restaurants listed and places to visit.

All remember...let your sailor dictate what he/she wants to do.  Mine just wanted to have lunch at Cracker Barrel, take a LOOOONG shower----without 80 shipmates with him----and ride around the area (snow on the ground...remember, we are S. Floridians so that was a treat!) and see what the "outside world" looked like.  We even ended up in a school pickup line (I was driving).  I found this hysterical...but oddly, my 23 and 25 yr old sons did not????  Hmmmm...go figure...  They really found it annoying when I told them I couldn't get out of it because the street was very narrow and curvey and I couldn't find a place to turn around.  Have to say...seeing them so embarrassed was a huge highlight of the trip for me!  Payback time!  :-)  I did get out of the line after a couple of minutes...so thankfully, didn't have to choose a random child to pickup there!  :-)
