I saw this post in the care package group and thought I would pass it along...
FLEET POST OFFICE (FPO) CHANGES -- Effective immediately for Navy mobile units, the sender must include the full, correct nine-digit ZIP code on all classes of mail, or the U.S. Postal Service will return mail to sender marked "undeliverable as addressed."

The Postal Service has consolidated its military mail processing from two coastal locations to just one in Chicago. Now, mobile Fleet Post Office (FPO) addresses MUST use nine-digit ZIP codes for automated mail-sorting equipment and to reduce manual sorting.

Each Navy mobile unit (ships, squadrons, detachments) has a unique, nine-digit (ZIP+4) FPO ZIP code. For example, this is the USNS Comfort mailing address with its nine-digit ZIP code:

SHIP’S COMPANY:
Rate Name
Dept / Div
USNS Comfort (T-AH 20)
FPO AE 09566-4008

MSC PERSONNEL:
Full Name
Department
Military Sealift Command
USNS Comfort (T-AH 20)
FPO AE 09566-4008

I am making a pillow with the ruffle yarn I knit with yarn and every 8th row I add the ruffle yarn as I regular knit.  I put a hole on and knit the reg yarn and it together, then next stitch add another hole of ruffle knit together etc.

That's pretty cool about your friend running with what you taught him. How rewarding! I really like making those frilly Sashay scarves. In fact that was what made me catch the bug. They are SO EASY and CUTE! I started making my first hat, but haven't picked up my knitting since March. I will prob pick it up in the fall again. I made a baby sweater and my own sweater and a couple potholders and coin purses. Wishing I could turn this hobby into money, but competition is tough around here and I'm not quite that talented just yet.

I periodically have knitted but not very well. two years ago I got talked into carrying yarn in my store and it was a hit.  There is now a Saturday knitting group that comes in and a knitting ministry that knits for the crisis preg. canter and a homeless housing place. So I have gotten a lot better learning from all the more proficient knitters. I love to make hats. I have a work study student that I taught him to knit and he now has 35 scarves that he made and 8 hats. Joe has Downs. He is selling his knitted items and making money. He will be part of the art center for the disabled that is planning on buying my store.

I like the idea of a candle in the college colors CO-twin. Maybe once Nathanael leaves town for college I will do that. Hey didn't I see a post somewhere that you knit CO-twin? I started knitting last year and enjoy it. However I can't seem to keep the interest in the summer. LOL I made a couple scarves for the boys and I plan on making a couple hats for them in their school colors this year. My Mom taught me how to knit and it's been fun. She is WAY more talented than me though.

Very good advise Disy. It is going to be a tough journey for sure. I talked to a friend and told her how we found 25 scholarships so far and she told me we would need to apply for twice that because they applied for 25 and didn't get one! So an uphill battle for sure! The hardest part for our family is we are middle class, but closer to the bottom rung. So...of course we are just that much overqualified for many opportunities out there. I'm sure many of us are in the same position. I've already prepared my son over the years to the fact that he has to pay his way thru college because we just can barely get by on our budget now. I find it crazy that colleges make it so hard to get in...but they want so much of your money! If only I could convince Twin 1 to join the military, even if it isn't the Navy! I worry so much more for him and his future than I do for Twin 2, since I know Twin 2 has his future set.

Sierrascrapper. And disy. Maybe you could also get a candle in their college colors and have the two candles together, after all won't you miss that twin also?
I saw the led candles and couldn't find a blue one.

Oh boy can I relate Disy. Twin 1 is so jealous of his brother already and when I talk too much about the Navy he let's me have it. I try not to do too much Navy talk around him so that I don't stir up tensions. He didn't mind the candle, but it just looks like a candle on the mantle right now. Maybe you can buy one for her and explain the meaning behind it and explain that she can light it when she misses her twin. Lately I've been trying to focus more on Twin 1 and helping him find scholarships. I made a deal with him that I would find them and he would write the essays. So...we've got some work to do. He's going to go to the local community college for at least one semester because the tech credits he is earning in HS will not count as college credit unless he goes to the community college. After that he'll decide whether he will stick around or go to an art school or the university in Vegas. Nevada has something called the Millenium Scholarship that covers the cost of tuition if Nevada residents attend a Nevada University. So...if he stays, he will have most of college paid for.

Awww...that is so sad and funny a the same time CO-twin. I hope you have an electric one you can turn on to make you feel better when you ate thinking about your sailors. I saw the COOLEST LED candle at Scheel's recently. If they would've had it in blue, I would've grabbed it in a heartbeat. It had a neat flickering flame.

I did pick up a couple tall pillar candles called Indigo Blue at Pier 1 on clearance for $5.50 each. It looked like they were sold out on their website though. Disy and Cathymg...if you haven't found one you like yet, you might want to stop in at Pier 1 and check it out. They had smaller ones too.

Actually just down the road from Pier 1 so will be picking up my blue candle! I have to tread carefully Twinkle 2 thinks I'm obsessed with the Navy and all things Navy! So I have to wait and discuss it gradually and see how she feels about me having the candle! Lord - twinkles sure can be hard work can't they! I keep telling my hubby I could get a job as a diplomat!
