The experience we had with my Twin 1 who was there for thanksgiving and then Christmas was...

Thanksgiving they were only released to immediate family, and as he did not have immediate family there he stayed at GL. They did have a day off I think and had a great turkey dinner.

Christmas there are two churches that take all the sailors and feed them and entertain them with singing, games, cards, x boxes, etc... they also take their portrait by the Christmas tree and mail these to you, the RTC posts pics for you to download also. The sailors get to call home and even Skype with you. It is a full day of fun.

I have a question for the experienced moms about the Thanksgiving Adopt A Sailor program at RTC... I'm traveling to Chicago to be with twin "Z" who entered boot camp 10/8/13. My other twin "A" goes to RTC on 11/13. Will he be eligible to leave for the day too? Does RTC offer this fantastic program on Christmas?

Thanks for the info and sharing your experience. It puts me at ease. For sure the only way to know will be to wait for that form letter. Just glad that my work is veryvery flexible.

One thing for sure, you will know in a couple of weeks after he gets to BC when you get your form letter that gives you the official address to write Jonathan letters and it will have his official PIR date. The only other things that could alter that date would be a medical hold if he got really sick or if he does not pass Battle Stations. Both of these instances are rare though. I have seen kids who were even in the hospital still graduate on time. Sam had a surgery and missed a few days and he was a push division and was week short from that and had PIR on time.

All I really know is that I have read that sometimes a revruit willI'll be at RTC for 10 weeks. I think it is in the discussion on how Divisions work in the Bootcamp Moms forum. Either way, I'm just glad I know that it could happen so that I'm prepared mentally. We just have to wait and see.

I guess I didn't finish my thought, that would push all PIR s off

I wonder if it makes a difference because the 4th of July 2014 is on a Friday, maybe there won't be a PIR that week.
Comment by Sierrascrapper (ETN2) on October 29, 2013 at 12:52am
The recruiter did mention something about the holiday affecting him. However, I wasn't exactly sure what he meant as he said something like his date may change. Not sure if he meant his ship date would change or estimated PIR date would change. The 4th of July lands on a Friday which means the recruits graduating that week will PIR on Thursday and Jonathan is supposed to leave for RTC on Tuesday. At this point, I'm not too worried about it really. We'll just have to wait and see. Personally, it would be better if he is delayed another week because otherwise he will PIR on Labor Day weekend which would suck for airline fares.

I don't think that that will add to his BC time. Did the recruiter say that? Steve was at BC for both Thanksgiving and Christmas and it was the same. 8 weeks from the first Friday the week he arrived. It should make no difference. Push divisions are the only exception and it is usually the waiting recruits wait a week to fill a division have one week less to train, but they all get what is need in time. I guess both have one week less the waiting group and the fillers.

Yup! It's going to be a difficult holiday to be without him. It also means that he will probably be there an extra week because of it. I will most likely be bawling my eyes out the entire weekend especially when I hear the National Anthem or Anchors Aweigh. We plan on going to support the high school marching band as they march in a parade in Graeagle, CA every year for the 4th of July. Working with the marching band will help keep me busy and not think too much about how much I will be missing my SR.
