Doubletrouble... How wonderful that you finally got to see your Sailors. I'm sure you had an AMAZING weekend. Onto the next stage of their career. How exciting. I'm sure you all will enjoy being able to communicate again. Pretty cool that you got to meetmeet Cathy and her Sailor too!

I'm so sorry CO-twin. I hope I didn't diminish your feelings. I just wanted you to feel like we care about your son and all who put their lives in danger. I'm so sorry you are having a rough day because of the movie. The experiences these Sailors have can give their parents a heavy heart. Hearing about your perspective helps us all to understand a little better. I'm still learning a little every day what it's like to be a Navy Mom. Hugs to you my sister.

Great to hear about your boys PIR and hope to hear from Cathy soon  Now your whole family can communicate better.  If they are like my boys though the letter will stop and you will get texts and IM on FB and phone calls.  Your boys can communicate now with each other which is pretty great for twins even though now they are in two different places.

My Stephen deployed on the USS Bainbridge the end of June.  This incident happened 4 years ago. Tom Hanks was on the dock when the ship left and I saw an interview with him about this movie.  The actual ship was in the movie and part of the inside the ship shots were filmed on a different ship. This ship still does Pirate Patrol and has stopped every Somali attack now for awhile. Makes me proud on the one hand but my son has seen some ugly things, He is not at liberty to say what but said, "ugly side of humanity."  Also these kids learn that there is a difference between video games and reality.

I cried every day numerous times a day for awhile. I still do sometimes for no apparent reason.  Was a mess this AM from that movie.  It is an awesome movie don't get me wrong but I ended up with so many different feelings. Pride in the navy, the USS Bainbridge (did a cheer in the movie the first time it showed up), and my son, sadness for these cultures that instill such hate and violence in their youth, sadness that my son is witness to such things, confidence in this vessel that my son is safe on board, maybe not when in ports but safe on the ship. Confidence in the training of the sailors and the job they do.

Wow, co-twin! Are you saying your son was on that ship at the time or that he has/is on it? I couldn't imagine.
Well, we had PIR this weekend and it was amazing! Finally got to meet Cathy in person, I loved meeting all the families of the sailors! We had am awesome time with the boys & their girlfriends. Darien is staying in GL for A school & Jacob flew to Groton, CT for his A school. I will try to post some pics on my page, I don't think I can post them here from my phone so check on my page later.
Thank you all for so much advice & support.

Alright ladies. I think Auntie Flo must be coming because I have been an emotional wreck today. For no real reasons. Just every song that comes on the Muzak system at work has made me feel super emotional and thinking about my boys growing up and leaving the nest and my Future Sailor leaving and being so far away for so long. How do you Moms deal with it? If I'm feeling like this now...I can only imagine the intensity when Jonathan leaves.

Oops...CO-twin...i know what you meant...and I meant the same thing. You prob knew everyone in the theater. LOL You definitely have a deeper connection than mostmost because your son is on the same ship. It probably made it even more real. I hope it didn't make you sad, but made you more proud of what our Navy is doing in the region.
Comment by CO-TwinSalorsMom on October 16, 2013 at 9:36am
Oh I am sorry I meant the only one in our theater. I imagine anyone with family in the military would feel like I did. But I think having a Bainbridge crew sailor specifically added to that.
Also the boys said that shaving with a razor can really irritate their skin and cause bad acne, some boys at BC had to get a special (can't remember what they called it) order to not have to shave.
Comment by Sierrascrapper (ETN2) on October 16, 2013 at 8:40am
Thanks for your input CO-twin. The boys have been using an electric shaver when needed. I think that maybe a blade would give a cleaner shave. We are. Going to give Jonathan a little lesson on using a razor thisthis week just to help prepare him for BC.

You may have felt you were the only one who had strong ties to the movie... But know that all of us Navy families feel that same connection even if our child isn't on the same ship. It's hard to fathom how being in the military affects our kids. It's unfortunate that there is so much evil in the world. I'm just grateful for all of our military who keep us safe each and every day.

Saw the movie, brought all sorts of feelings. Pride that Stephen is a member of the USS Bainbridge crew. A certain sadness for him as in his words he has seen the ugly side of humanity. An appreciation for his safety as the navy is a force to be reckoned with and on board they are safer than the other guy. Awesome how the crew comes together and get the job done no messing around. I think I felt feelings that I alone felt in that theater because of my ties to that ship.
