"Hello, Wondering if anyone is familiar with how the medical waiver process works or how long it takes. Graduation was 4/3/15. Our sailor has been cleared for transfer by basic training medical staff but now need waiver from A school in order to transfer. Does anyone know how long this can take? Or what our sailor can do to help expedite the process?" Thank you and Happy Easter all!

  • Rachel

I am looking for wives who live with their husband through nuke school to find there experience and any advice they have please message me or add me!! i am really needing some info. :) thanks ladies you guys are awesome!

  • Dink(Vinson)

Sunshine5- if you're talking about after PIR, it took about a week for my Sailor's waiver to come through.
  • SUNSHINE5

Dinky(1404GCprototype) - Yes, after PIR he was to ship out to Charleston.  But was told he was staying put until his medical waiver came through. He is still in the GLs working as a yeoman waiting for his waiver. Thank you for your post. Happy to hear it was a quick turn around for your sailor.

  • BoyWonderMom

Sunshine5, my sailor PIR'd June 7 2013 and stayed in GL waiting for a waiver for 17 days. His paper work was done quickly but the doc to approve was on leave. It usually takes a week or so.
    Congrats to every sailor graduating!
  • TJ Proudnavymom

Well my son made it to GC. On to the next part of "our" adventure.

  • rhinosmom

My son arrived at GC yesterday.

  • SUNSHINE5

    Hi BoyWonderMom,
Thank you for your comment. Our saillor shipped out from GL to GC threes days ago. Paper work was processed within a weeks time. Like TJ Ptoudnukemom said "On to the next part of his adventure."
  • cindyb

I hear you BlancheMarie, that is exactly how I feel too. ...I can breathe again. It was stressful waiting for that phone call. Just got the suitcases packed. Ready to head to Charleston! Congrats on your son too. =)

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

That's awesome Chris!  Have a great time in GC!

  • kitkat508

Hey everyone! My husband is a Nuke, is currently in basic training and will be going to Goose Creek after graduation! I had a question for any wives that live with their husbands-how long did it take for you to be able to move in with your husband once he got arrived Goose Creek? I know there is a bunch that goes on, but I was just wondering what other people's experiences were!

  • SJ0522

Kitkat580, my husband arrived to GC on Saturday after grad and then flew home to get me the following Wednesday. It definitely varies, but I believe this is the norm.
  • kitkat508

SJ0522, thank you SO MUCH! That makes me feel so much better!

  • KAM Mom

Hi from SC not too far from GC!   We are still waiting for our SAilor to "class up" for A school.  He is an ET.  I think the will begin class with the EM's very soon.  Apparently, they alternate weeks for starting their classes.  As soon as he starts, we should know his graduation date provided he stays on track.  He seems to be doing just fine while he waits.  Although cleaning is not much fun, there is little stress right now.  BEst to all those coming in today and next week.  If you Sailor is an ET or EM and has not started classes yet, we may have Sailors in the same group.  Let me know. Thanks.

  • bobnver

Hi all... I noticed a few of you had sailors that have just started at GC so I just wanted to give you a timetable of what my daughter (EM) has done so far.  She arrived in GC in May 2014.. she graduated "A" school in Nov 2014,  She will graduate power school on July 10, 2015....  each segment was 6 mos but she had "holds" both before and after A school...  I'm told that everyone's schedule is different but I hope this guideline can be helpful.

If anyone wants to chat, feel free to comment or send me a friend invite...

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

    Hi all - Happy Wednesday!

bobnver - I think I recognize you from the FB group!  Come on over & join the nuke moms group too.  It's a little more active than this one!

  • Michelle0206

KAM Mom, hi! Our son is there too, arrived from Boot Camp 5/23/15. I don't know if he started classes yet, he has also been cleaning, going to briefings, working out a lot and running. He texted Tuesday to let us know he is out of contact for a week. We don't have any idea what that's about. He knows someone who lives down there...maybe your son? Our son is ET as well. We don't always get details from him. Best to you and your sailor!
  • KAM Mom

Hey Michelle0206,    I just sent you a "friend " request.  Do you know what class he is in?  Our son is also an ET class 1536....and has had a week of classes.   I will send you a message when you confirm "friend" status.

    Thanks,

  • Redwind

  • van1612

Hi, can I find out when are they able to get a car and when are they able to get weekend liberties? My fiancé should be getting to nuke a school around 27 July.
  • PacNWmom

Van1612 - If you haven't done so yet, you should join the Nuke Mom's group. They are much more active than this group, and someone will likely be able to answer your question there.

I live far away, so don't know the ins and outs of cars and liberties, though I'm traveling to NC later this week and am planning to see my sailor son while I'm there. Yippee!!

  • WearsLargeHats

Van1612 -- see "Your Sailor's Schedule Upon Arrival at Goose Creek" in the discussions above.

  • Yella Horse Gal

Howdy all! New Nuke mom here! My sailor just arrived at GC on Saturday 8/8. Good to be here! Any tips & info are welcome! I've been reading the schedules & info in here...
  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Welcome Yella Horse Gal!  Make sure you come on over to the Nuke Mom's page - it's a little more active than this one.  You'll get a quicker response to your questions over there!

  • tmansmom

Hi, everyone! My sailor just arrived in Charleston tonight. He spent 2 additional weeks in Great Lakes in the THU. Alas, he's at A School! I even more excited that we are less than 2 hours away from him! So happy!
  • Yella Horse Gal

    Welcome tmansmom!
Glad your sailor made it to GC! How long until his class starts?
  • tmansmom

Thank you, Yells Horse Gal! I'm not sure when he starts. He was told the guys from his division who had PIR on 8/14 with him started actual classes on Monday. He'd been in contact with the guys and they had been doing prework. I hope he's able to catch up quickly. When he went to THU he would not be behind upon his arrival to Charleston. He was tired once he made it to base and he wanted to go to bed. I'll get more details tomorrow. Any information you have about A School is appreciated.
  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Hi tmansmom - Welcome!  Make sure your read "Your Sailor's Schedule Upon Arrival at Goose Creek" & "Nuke 'A' School" above.  Both will give you some good info.  Also, make sure you come over to the Nuke Mom's group.  It's a little more active than this page and you will get quicker responses!

  • Redwind

How big is the graduation from A school?

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Good Morning.  I know we don't normally post any information on here that identifies a sailor but I think it's important to post this.  This Sailor - Vincent Ferdin - is missing.  He is in Goose Creek, SC, in the last part of prototype.  His mom, Rena Ferdin, was contacted by the Navy on Monday that he had been missing for 2 days.  HE IS STILL MISSING.  She is in Goose Creek & has been there since Tuesday.  Please share this with your sailors & perhaps someone will know something or remember something that could help in finding him. This has been posted on various FB groups and there is also a FB page dedicated to finding him "Finding Vincent Ferdin".

  • Kayla

Hi my name is Kayla, My boyfriend has been in Charleston since the start of August and i finally get to visit him in October! I am supper excited! We have been talking about going to the ball, but i am nervous because i don't know anyone or what to expect! Do any of you have any advice for first time attendees?!

  • heidi86

Does anyone know if they found Vincent Ferdin, the sailor who went missing from Nuke Prototype in Charleston?
  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

heidi86 - unfortunately they have not found him yet.  There's also a FaceBook page: Finding Vincent Ferdin that posts updates.

  • heidi86

Thanks for the info. I did forward a copy of the flyer to my son, but he doesn't know the guy and hasn't seen him.
  • A's_momma_Erin

Posted on FB groups too. ALL items need to be gone THIS SUNDAY! My son has a few things he is willing to get rid of/sell before he moves to his duty station. He has a futon- black leather like that he would like $50 or best offer for. A wheelie black meshed desk chair, 3 x 3 plastic folding table that folds in half to be about 1.5 x 3' rectangle and a Wind machine Fan... PM me for his phone number... ID post pics, but I don't know how from my phone...
  • Yella Horse Gal

Anyone know of a vehicle for sale on base? My a school nuke is trying to find one...
  • Momluvsu:)

Did anyone get pictures from A School graduation on 10/9/2015?? I was unable to attend and was hoping to see if I could find any pictures of my son.. Thanks in advance

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Vincent Ferdin is still missing.  Please continue to share this information.  (Especially with your sailors in Charleston/Goose Creek.)

  • KarenLynn

My son is graduating from PIR December 11. He will be attending Nuke school in Charleston. Can anyone hazard a guess on whether he will be able to come home for Christmas?

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

A new flier was posted on FB today for Vincent Ferdin - he is still missing.  Please continue to pray for his family that they can find out something soon.

  • Redwind

My son is currently in South Carolina,  He as told us there is stand down in December.

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Hi Redwind & KarenLynn - You should also join the Nuke mom's group - it's a little more active and you will get answers quicker! They normally split the holiday standown into 2 separate breaks and normally your sailor will get one or the other - of course that could also change at any time!
