  • IDCmom#1

Kirsi, check out USNS Mercy 2012 for Families group on navyformons and there is also a link there to the facebook page.

Hope your son has a wonderful time on the mission.  I am so disappointed for my son that he wasn't able to go due to illness.

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Aww have a great weekend Marsha!  If you need rice and tin cans let me know :)

  • velvetlace

    Carol and Betty-

My Cub went to the gym today.   He is amazing how he bounces back!   He said he will be working again on Monday.   I do not want any more major league curve balls for a while.  Otherwise, it was a beautiful day on the North Coast of California, and I wish I could have you over for fresh strawberries, cool whip, and angel food cake!   Hold that thought and pass the Kona coffee!   <3

"M" is now hunting for a uhaul : )  He sounds rested .... He is all excited to be Blue Navy and his wife is all for whatever he wants... What a precious couple.. Lilia truly put that sparkle back in his eyes... I owe her : )

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Have you figured out how to play stowaway in that UHaul yet?

  • mikes mom

    LOL

  • momclf (ship03 div 018)

Ruthella, thank you for the encouraging words.  I knew I could count on someone from here to make me feel better.  No third eye, although my kids think I have an extra set in the back of my head.  I think it is the uncertainty of the unknown that worries me more than anything.  I know I will get through and I know my son will grow as a person from this experience.  I am glad that he will get to see parts of the world that otherwise he never would have.  I also think that since he is "only" 20 I still feel like he is my "little" boy.  Not sure if that feeling ever goes away, does it?  I really do love this site and all the wonderful people who are on here to provide support.  I don't know how I ever would have made it through boot camp last year if not for the support.  Have a wonderful night everyone.

  • momclf (ship03 div 018)

Carol, thank you.  Isn't funny that even though he is 6" taller than me and outweighs me quite a bit, he is still a "little" boy.  I think for me in addition to missing him terribly, I worry about the decisions he makes.  I always said when my kids were growing up that I just wanted them to become a productive member of society and now that they have, and I realize my "job" is done the worrying does not lessen.  Like I said before I just feel so blessed that I was able to find this site and meet so many other parents who have the same fears and have experienced the same joys as me.

  • mikes mom

momclf - When my son left to go to Afg I told him (as we stood near his car ) that I know your a man but I see my little two year old wearing his Red Tennis shoes...That was almost three years ago and two deployments.. He is now getting ready for his big move with his wife to Washington State : )  I have found that they always need their mom, it doesnt matter how old... you know we are all so blessed to have this group : ) I have made friends for life here and you will too..

  • Dan's Dad (John)

Mom was worried all week because she hadn't heard from cub. Texts not returned, phone goes directly to voice mail. She even went to verizon to check on his phone useage, nothing for a week! He finally called last night and said sorry, they were out in the field all week. He's at CL and she still worries! She told him she's twisting his ear remotely and to call his mother if he's going to be out of touch for a week again.

  • mikes mom

John just tell him to call and let his mother know when he will be out in the field ... wde will always worry. .. M would always let me know and sometimes they could be out there for weeks.. silly boy he needs to let his mom know ...
  • momclf (ship03 div 018)

I look forward to coming here and getting my chuckle in for the day, never fail to be dissapointed, LOL.  I found out from my son that where he is going he will be working in a military prison...taking care of some pretty tough characters.  Just keeping my fingers and toes crossed that he keeps his temper in check and just does his job.  So at least I can say he shouldn't be where there will be much of a chance for being in direct contact to a war zone.  I pray for those families that are in that situation.

  • MEsailormom

Son bought a motorcycle in CA. No surprises right ladies and gents? What is all this spitting going on? Planning a LONG, long hike one year from now. Appalachian Trail---Georgia to Maine. Hiking home. This may be my only window. Son is in Navy, parents 85 and so far so good, house paid off. Scary but exciting. I am trying to forget how sick I was last year Just a fluke. :p

  • MEsailormom

Kawasaki Vulan. 2004. So neither of the above I know nothing about motorcycles. Lots of left over lobster recipes ...now I got you covered. He is at CP. Happy as a clam he is!!. And yes I am already back on the trail around here and what is 2000+ miles after what these kiddos endure Surely this Mom is up to it. The titanium gives me super powers...just a drag getting it installed.  It will give cub good conversation about home.??

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

.....and then they'll marry sisters, and we'll all go to the double wedding, and they'll have kids at the same time, and alternate Christmases in CO & ME....  *sigh*

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

So much going on, and so much wisdom and good words here these days, I marvel at the strength of ALL our moms.

I meanwhile have no fingernails left, refinishing my upper kitchen cabinets - hear that Ruthella?  All is looking good but boy my dawgs are barking tonight as they say and I'm still going up and down the stepladder, rehanging doors at 7 a.m., oh joy!

Weather here is hanging on, not too hot yet and I picked my first tomato; kid called and he's doing fine, all's right with the world......

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Carol - I had to get "Born to be Wild" out of my head lol

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Congrats to your son Kathy - and to you, too - you're now an official Navy Corpsman mom, got those acronyms down!  Tell your friends your HM PLT EPT at CP FMTB will soon be 8404 LOL

  • mikes mom

Wow, look at our group and all the NEW moms we have ! Awesome ! Congrats Kathy : )

"M" and Lilia are going to leave today ... They came by last night to ask me if I would like to go to the movies with them... I was watching my Kaila so sadly I said No and they decided they would visit with me instead.. I can't say this enough "M" is NOT his DAD : ) that Lilia is starting off with new .. All new furniture for their apartment.. She told "M" that it could wait and he said " it has been years since he has had a home and he wants a nice one"... Soooooo they will be driving for another 15 hours to get to his next duty station... YAY !!! for them : )

Ohhhhhh Carol my son just told me the other day he wants to get a motorcycle!!! I'm not to crazy about it but what can we do we are just the MOMs..Yikes !

  • momclf (ship03 div 018)

Ruthella, that is funny about your brother-in-law, but I can 1 up you.  My father's widow asked me and my husband to join her and her new husband at a swinger party.  Talk about gag!  I had to take a shower after that converstion!

Carol...Yes, my cub is 6'2 and about 230lbs.  I barely reach 5'.  Hoping he can handle the prisoners with care, he does not, how to put it lightly, "appreciate" people who, again delicately, do bad things.  We will leave it at that.  I am sure you understand.  He does seem excited about his deployment though.  When he finished A school he had his choice of duty stations because graduated top of class and could have gone anywhere in the world, but he said he wasn't ready to leave the states.  This time he was also given the choice and he said yes.  However, if he would have said yes before, I could be vacationing in Italy this year......lol, brat!

  • mikes mom

OMGosh Ruthella that's to funny !!!!!!  I would have loved seeing your face when Earl told you.. LOL  Jusrt the other day I was telling someone about me asking you if they had earthquakes in NC  LOL How silly !!!

Well, I text Lilia last night to see where they were and she said they got as far as Redding and had problems with the uhaul : (  Sooooo they stayed the night and I hope this morning someone will be able to help those two.. It cost him $1100.00 to rent that D@mn thing !!!  By the way I'm calling my DIL and not my son cuz he gets PISSY and I really don't want to hear it.. LOL

For Mothers day Melissa asked me to come and visit her again : ) Soooo off I will go, but it will be Memorial weekend because she is working this weekend.. Can't wait to see her..

  • Dan's Dad (John)

D bought a new car when he got back, thankful it was a nice "grown up" car he can keep for a long time instead of a sports car. He said a lot of the guys by Mustangs and such. He bought a loaded Passat diesel. Then he bought a pistol, and now he's looking at buying a .22 caliber target rifle. He said they may get off early on Friday and if they do he's coming home for the weekend! Not counting on it, but we may be hitting the gun store Saturday.

  • Dan's Dad (John)

I was in bad mc accident the summer after my senior year, f'd up my knee and lost my football scholarship. I can't get on a bike anymore but still drool at the new Harleys!

  • momclf (ship03 div 018)

That is so awesome that a small town like that would do this for our boys! Hats off to them!

All this talk of motorcycles make me nervous, however instead of going out and getting one of those since enlisting, my 20yr old went out and got himself a wife instead.  Not sure which one is going to cost him more in the end.  Oh my, did I just say that?!

  • mikes mom

Okay "M" is now telling me that there is NO Way he will pay for that UHAUL!!! He said the strap that was supposed to have been fixed ( the strap or whatever they called it was to hold the car to the trailer ) and was not and "M" stopped at a gas station just to ck it again after someone from UHAUL came out and fixed it ( RIGHT, NOT ) and it wasn't even connected!!!! He called them and this time he went MARINE on them ..LOL His wife was driving behind him and he told them what if the car had fallen off the trailer ! He would have lost his family.. Man was he pissed ! Sooo I would say ladies tell your children to rent from Riders not Uhaul..

They should be in Washington now and in their apartment : ) While I was talking to my son Lilia would walkie talkie him ... those two are so cute : )

To our new moms with deployed corpsman - You have found a good home these parents have been there done that.. One thing you will notice about this group is we are all very close and understanding... I am truly blessed to be apart of it...

  • velvetlace

I had a great day today.   I was fortunate enough to play my accordion and sing with my fellow guitar musician for a lovely young couple who married today.  It was an honor and privilege to see two people so happy and committed.  How lucky was I to be a part of this wonderful, joyous day!    I am hoping some day that I can play and sing at my cub's wedding.  I played at his first holy communion and at his confirmation.   The only worry is that I will get too old to play my 35 pound accordion!  LOL!   Happy Mother's Day to all of you caring mom's of corpsmen!   Love and peace to all of you!

  • mikes mom

    Happy Mothers Day !

Wow - TRYING to catch up here, never going to make it!  Sounds like some exciting and kinda scary things happening too!  Mary - so glad your cub is on the mend!  Kym, sending hugs momma, love the paper chain idea!

I hope all had a wonderful Mother's Day!  I didn't get to talk to my cub but did get an e-mail from him today and a wonderful present - he's coming home for a visit in July!  He's coming home for 5 or 6 days then heading out west to spend a week with his 2 best friends and then will back home for a couple of days before heading back to Italy.  We're not telling anyone else in the family his plans though, it's our secret!  Oh yeah, I should mention he got back from the sand on April 26th!  I just don't seem to have enough time to keep up on the internet these days, but all is well in my neck of the woods!  And I'm happy to see everyone here seems to be hangin' in pretty good too :0)

  • mikes mom

And what's awesome is when a Princess meets Queen Ruthella : ) We sure have turned into a family

Got a Skype call from son.....list signal before we got to see eachother...crummy!!! We did chat on Fb for a while....love it. Sounds good. 2 weeks down only so many more to go:)
  • Jana

I got a Skype call from mine yesterday.  At first, lost signal but then got it back.  It was great to see his face.  Haven't seen it since he got there.

  • mikes mom

Betty - We are ... Almost three years for me and I don't know what I would have ever done without any of you : )

Kim & Jana - YAY!! FB was my friend while my son was deployed..

  • velvetlace

I did get a call from my boy on Sunday afternoon.  Of course, I was thrilled!!!  It was so wonderful just hearing his voice.   He told me that he has been working just about everyday since his illness, and he was tired.  He was thrilled that he was going back to day shifts.   He said that he will more than likely take leave to come home in September.

I am really looking forward to seeing the movie, Battleship.    I understand that some of the actors are actually active duty sailors.   I wanted to go today, but I am having a TGIF at my house for staff of my hubbie's school.    It looks like an action-packed movie using transformers, etc,  I know my Corpsman Cub would love it!

  • IDCmom#1

My daughter-in-law's ship, USS Sampson, is in the movie.  Unfortunately, it doesn't hold up so well to aliens.

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

I got to see a sneak preview of Battleship at the theater at Naval Amphibious Base Little Creek - it was so much fun, free for Navy people and the director Peter Berg arrived in a black Escalade with the base commander and spoke before the screening, nice guy and his dad was Navy.  Our corpsman got to have a few words with Berg too which was pretty cool :)  The movie's tone is tongue-in-cheek and quite a roller coaster ride with all kinds of elements - humor, thrills, patriotism, love interest, thrills, suspense.  There was nothing quite like seeing a picture like this with a theater full of Navy people - not just lots of whooping and clapping at the right spots, but you could feel the pride in there and this mama just loved every bit.

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

You bet Carol!  it was Mother's Day weekend & we also went to the beach at Little Creek, gotta love that the Navy has its own beautiful little private beach for its folks :)   Betty, I bought a batch of new plants yesterday and am planting today.  We have the worst soil here - its plain ol' clay - so involves big bags of planting soil too.  My neighbor is a musician and is having a big party tonight - stage built in the backyard with lighting and all.  Some of his friends were in a band that was pretty big here in the 70s (country rock) & I love it when they get together.  Nothing like a great party you can walk home from!! :)

  • mikes mom

Ruthella I love your house !

Good Morning everyone.. Today I am going with some close friends to Big Sur to say good bye to my dear friend Laura.. Today we will be taking care of her ashes .. Her last request .. She has even written down where she wants us to have lunch... I have to say she lived an amazing life and I will be with women that had known her for over 40 years to my two years... Oh, well its a beautiful day : )

Okay, this week I will be going to Kileen, Taxas to visit our favorite Soldier : ) YAY!!!

  • mikes mom

Omgosh what a day ! We went to rocky point for lunch ( my first time going ) all of them would go there about four times a year : ) we got on old coast high way (google it cuz I was amazed )its a 10 mile dirt road ! Stopped at 3 place where she asked for her ashes to be dropped and the last one she will have a beautiful view of the ocean : ) I'm sure she smiling down at us right now.. what a day
