Ginny_Ship06Div944PIR9/17/10 ~ I you join a discussion or group for Division 944, you have a better time line of events. All divisions do not run the same time line for phone calls, events, etc. You state group = * Connecticut : ) ~ kk

Wow, so many new faces since my grandson graduated on march 13th. he was in the 900 division and was actually the band leader. We were so thrilled on graduation day to see him walk out leading his band out on the floor and then them stopping and playing the music... This really thrilled this 70 year old grandmother. yes, they work hard and often perform in other graduating programs etc. Shared pictures of the graduation with mothers that their children were performing at his graduation but would not graduate till a week or so later.. They were thrilled to have the pictures... The video that you can buy is great and it was so clean and beautiful... i have two grandchildren in the navy now and one in the us Coast guards... i miss them so much but at least we can talk most everyday by cell.
  • txsailorsam-Donna

I am new to this group. My sons PIR is 10/1 and is in division 946. I don't know much about it or why he was selected to be in this group except he had high ASVAB scores, was in CAP, and has leadership skills. I guess he will tell me about it in his letters.
  • OK Mom - Donna

Welcome tx. From everything I've read and heard, we should all be very proud that our recruits are 900's. You may want to watch the videos on youtube of past PIRs to get an idea of just how exciting it will be.
Where is Spring, TX? I'm from OK.
  • txsailorsam-Donna

OKMom Spring is just about 30 mi north of Houston. I am very proud. I can't wait until he writes and tells me he realizes the kind of division he is in. I would think it would give them a boost to know the confidence someone has in them. I have always told him he could do great things and I think he will as well as most if not all of these young men and women. Where in OK are you from. I had a friend who lived in Ponca City even went there a time or two. Thanks for your comments. Have a good evening.
  • kjames1129

does anyone know what day the 900 divisions first phone call is NORMALLY on? Fri? Sat?
  • txsailorsam-Donna

Sam called Sat. but my understanding is that the RDC has all the power to let the recruits call or not depending on their performance. It is a reward.
  • Deanna_H_Proud_FC2's_Mom

KJames, my first phone call was a surprise on a thursday!! I was driving home from the grocery store and my cell phone showed an incoming call from an 847 area code. .I couldn't get my phone answered fast enough!! Mom's, watch for 847 area code.. could even say pay phone.. but, 847 is them!! It was so out of the blue, I was hoping to hear from him that weekend. Boy, I walked on air for days!! He only got 2 phone calls the entire time at bootcamp though. (Excluding the "I'm a Sailor Call" after finishing battleships (that will be the week of their graduation usually) 900's are a busy division. They practice on Saturday's. I agree with TXSailorsam, it's all dependant on their RDC (Recruit Drill/Division Commander)

Take care and enjoy the rollercoaster ride!! Wait until PIR (Pass in Review/Graduation)!! WOW!!!
  • txsailorsam-Donna

Doesn't hearing their voice make all the difference. Sam choked up but it was still so good to hear him. I also think, hope, hearing ours makes a difference to them as well, telling them they can do it, or just I live you and am praying for you.
  • txsailorsam-Donna

that would be I love you. There is a reason I was not a secretary. My typing skills stink.
  • Deanna_H_Proud_FC2's_Mom

You're so right TX. (I'm also in TX too btw) And because I was expecting it that weekend I had already started telling myself "I won't cry when I hear his voice." and when I saw that 847 come up (and had read here that it would be them) I just giggled. I was so happy I just burst. He was happy too. And we talked and laughed and talked!! He actually earned extra time for that call because the Division had done something really well so they RDC let them have 40 minutes!! I pried myself from the phone long enough to let him talk to his brother and his dad for a few minutes. They were sweet, they let me talk to him almost the entire time!! I still remember that feeling and how awesome it felt (still feels) to hear his voice!! My sailor is currently in FC- A school there in GL. He calls every few days, we text regularly and skype a couple of times a week now. Oh my heart still lights up when I hear his ring tone start up (I have Rascall Flatts "My Wish" set for him) I thought about changing it to Popeye the Sailor but, just can't!! I can't wait to see him again!! We haven't seen him since his PIR weekend (April 8th) Hoping to be there for his birthday in Oct. but, maybe (cross your fingers) starting a new job and not sure if I'll have time off then or not. :~( But, I can't pass up the opportunity for this new job. (Benefits, Insurance, Retirement and more pay!) All things I don't currently have.

Geez, I'm tired, I'm rambling sorry. My other son was accidentally pushed into a fire pit this week (they were horsing around and he was shoved and tripped over his flip flop too and fell) His shorts caught on fire and they got stuck on his right leg while he tried to get them off. He jumped into the lake to put them out. He was up last night in pain. I'm talking him to the burn center today in Dallas. (if they'll EVER call me back with a time) Otherwise, I'm just going up there and sit until they see us!! Needless to say, I've been distracted and exhausted this week. Job interview and my son getting hurt has had me a mess!! So thankful to have my Navy Mom's for support and hugs.
  • txsailorsam-Donna

what's happening 900 division moms. Don't hear much from you guys. Hope everything is ok. Wanting to talk to you about what is going on with our recruits. Anyone hear from their recruits lately. I know they are kind of doing double duty, reg bc as well as the performance thing BUT I am hungry for some word of how they are doing. I also am wanting to get to know some of you. Anyone game? Deanna liked your post. Thanks for sharing. When I got the 2nd call I was alone in the car. Could feel guilty about having the whole call to myself...but...NOT. I enjoyed the whole 19 minutes and 16 seconds of it. How many 900 divisions are there?
  • kjames1129

I got a letter stating i would get a phone call today but i doubt they can call this late... i got my letters today, though. He seems to know som eof the guys in there and he said they all have a good sense of humor. They had their inspection last monday and their first test yesterday? i think is what he said in his letter!! we have to stick together and get all the info from them as possible... he said division 944 is the state flags division and told me to google it lol... typical me...
  • txsailorsam-Donna

kjames which division is he in? You got letters plural? Wonderful I am so waiting for Sam to write.
  • kjames1129

Tx- He is in Division 944 and yes i got 3 :) I'll keep my fingers crossed for you... my first letter was a week after he was in and it came on Sat
  • txsailorsam-Donna

His first week mark was yesterday... so here's hoping I'll get one soon. He is in division 946. If 944 does the flags what does 946 do? Anyone know?
  • Liz71184

I havent heard anything from my husband yet either txsailorsam. My husband is also in the 946 division and he got into the 900's because of his test scores. Im hoping to hear from him soon though. I am anxiously waiting to get home to check my mailbox everyday.
  • OK Mom - Donna

The band and choir sounded great today! It was a wonderful experience.
  • txsailorsam-Donna

I think Sam got in because of test scores also but not sure. I check the mailbox every day, too but as of today a big NOthing. :(. This division is particularly busy though with the performance things added.I'll let you know when I hear you do the same. Are they allowed to talk to each other yet?
    KJames when is your PIR?
  • OK Mom - Donna

There is only one 900 division per PIR date. Sometimes they have staff sometimes drill and sometimes triple threat.(all three). The 900's triple threat usually performs at one or two PIRs before their own.
  • NavyMomX2

    Hi Moms!
My daughter is in the choir and has a PIR date of 9/24. I am hoping to find other mom's with kids in the choir so I can find out more about it. I also heard they perform in PIR's prior to their own.
  • MamaBear kk

There have been times where two (2) 900 series divisions have had PIR on the same date. As a matter of fact, I think there was a recent one. I was shocked when I saw it actually. It is not common as far as I know. The 900 series divisions are scheduled to have divisions overlap. They normally perform at their PIR and the two (2) prior. The files are looked at - there is a face to face interview (if you want to call it that) - if the person in charge feels that the Recruit can handle ALL boot camp responsibilities AND the PIR performance duties - then they are considered or selected. They do look at ASVABs, prior employment, some college, ROTC, leadership skills, etc. The band/music experience is a plus - but many have not had either. I know of a SR (corpsman) that had college, employment, and good ASVAB scores - he did not make the interview cut. Sometimes it works out for the best - as some do not make the 900 after a couple of weeks. My son was the first to enter his 900 series division. He said it was the longest week ever waiting for the division to fill. Remember, they have to have a good mix of 88 (44 males and 44 females). : ) ~ kk
  • MamaBear kk

NavyMomX2 ~ Did you search for your daughter's division. I started a PIR/Division group as we had more in common with time frames, etc. Not all divisions are run the same. : ) ~ kk
  • NavyMomX2

    Hi MamaBear,
Thanks for the info. I will search for her division to see what I can find. She is in division 945. I didn't realize it was such a process to be in this division. She called their division "triple threat" I am not sure, but I believe that means they have choir, band, and drill team.
  • Honnalora

Just got my recruits info. He is ship 6 division 947. Anyone else?
  • Deanna_H_Proud_FC2's_Mom

Navy Mom X 2. My son was Div 921 and he was triple threat. It does mean band, choir and rifles. Congrats to your seaman recruit! They are a tight knit group! They work hard and it shows!!
  • txsailorsam-Donna

The 946 division is all male. I asked sf yesterday.
  • ladybug1961

I can hardly breath I am so proud of my grandson Kurtis. I pray that he does well on his Battle Station 21... His Mom ( angel on his shoulder) would have been so proud. She left us on Jan 2008, to be with Jesus. Pray for him to run his mile and half in record time.
  • NavyMomX2

Thanks Deanna! I am very proud of her of course. I can't wait to see them perform.
  • Christine-OS2 proud mom

Navymomx2, last year when my son was in Div 945 they performed at the Labor Day Parade in Zion Il, yes they get to leave base to perform. These kids in the performing division are awesome because they do everything that all recruits must do to pass bc but they also schedule in rehersals and performances. Be proud moms!
  • txsailorsam-Donna

    I am.
  • skeeter85

my daughter is ship 6 division 947 also.
  • Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons

I can't believe my daughter went through boot camp in the 936 division and I didn't know about this group. Anyway, I am here now. My daughter was in the choir if anyone has any questions please let me know. Send me a friend request. :)
  • Penny0910

My daughter is on ship 6 Div 947. She is not a musical person. There must be other responsibilities for this div than just music? Anyone know?
  • ladybug1961

color guard, flags this 900 div is a high honor only 44 women and 44 men are chose, I heard anyway.
  • skeeter85

I am curious to know if my daughter has any special responsibilities and what
they are. Here's to hoping there is a letter soon....
  • Mom-to sailor-Alli_Div950-10/29

My daughter is ship 6 division 950. I wonder what she will be doing as she is not musical. . . Interesting
  • Penny0910

Thanks ladybug, maybe thats it. I'm very proud of her regardless.
  • ladybug1961

you just have to read about DIV 900's in the groups information...they really have lots of extra responsibiluityy Plus do all the basic training stuff..my grandson just finished battle station 21...check out USS TRAYER on google.and pray for her.
  • SailorAndrewG'sMom

Stevie, my son is also DIV 948, PIR 10/15. Still learning about what all that means!
  • Lacysmom

My daughter is div 950. Still waiting on a letter.
  • newmom60

My daughter is in Division 945 and she is part of the choir. Being part of a 900's division is a high honor and a lot of responsability and extra training. But for our recruits is a big thing.
  • newmom60

When our child begins BC, their life and ours change for ever. They learn to be patient and strong. We mothers, learn the same thing. We daughter's PIR is 9/24 and I worry and pray, pray, pray every second/minute of the day. Just hang in there, letters will start coming and if one day, you will receive "phone call" that we all anxiouly wait for. (my daughter has called once, 1.5 weeks ago and tall me not to expect another call for 2 weeks. But I still carry my cell EVERY WHERE I go. I promised her I was going to be available 24/7. Hang in there ....
  • kimbob699

My daughter is also on on ship 6 div 947
  • arlene40

Congratulations to you for your child is doing something that you are going to be so proud of. When my grandson went into the navy, I thought I would die. This was my third grandchild now serving our country, two in the navy and one in the coast guards.. But this was my baby.... he was picked to be in the 900 Division and he was in pier I believe 6, but he graduated on March 12th, 2010. I went with my daughter and the family to see him graduate and how proud we were. He was the band director. or what they call many times the Drum major. out of all the many hundred graduating, he was one of the very few that their names were listed in the program...wow, we were really proud.. it was awesome. We got to spend the rest of that Friday, then Sat and Sunday with him and had to have him back at 7 PM Sunday night... that night was the worse night I have ever spend and it has been bad since... I just cannot adjust of him being away. HE loves it and he is in San Diego, CA got to come home last week for 10 days, the first he had been back since he left on January 13th, 2010. yes, it has made him into a man. it is great to see how he has grown but I sure do miss him and at 70 years old, just wonder and hope that I will live to see him home for good... but then he is thinking of making a career out of it. My other grandson has been in the Coast Guards for 2 years and he loves it too. He does not spend money, he bunks on the ship and he eats the Coast Guard food.. Right now he and my Navy grandson are both stationed in San Diego. but anyway, my Coast Guard grandson has saved over $25,000. and he says he is going to stay in until he has $100,000. saved... so at that rate, saving that much in 2 years, it will take him 6 more years he will have it saved... can you believe that... My grandson in the Navy is not saving like that wish he would. My grand=daughter in the Navy is stationed in Norfolk.. She is doing great too.. She has her own apartment there but tonight they are having to stay on the ship...the storm is coming there by morning and they had them all get on the ship...my daughter, her mom is going up there tomorrow to get there by tomorrow night and take her little 3 year old to see her... She has been in the Navy a year last March 12th. Well if you were to look back you can see my postings for the many times I posted.. I am proud but my heart aches for I would love to have my grandchildren home.... God bless you all and my prayers are with you all as you wait to see yours graduate from bootcamp and see them go on in their new direction in life... believe me it will be different.. But at least after boot camp you can talk to them when ever you want unless they are out to see and then it is limited... but seemingly they do not go out but for about 6 months at the time at the most... my coast guard grandson only goes out for 3 to 4 months at a time and my grand-daughter went out last year for 6 months and then only a day or two at a time and they come back to base. They probably will go out against next year for a 6 months tour.. God bless you all.
  • txsailorsam-Donna

My son is in ship 06 also division 946. I just received 2 letters from him. Sounds good. Wisdom teeth pulled last week, doing well regardless.. Tests all good. Inspections good. Time passing faster than he expected. He graduated 10/1. I, too, am proud of him. He did say his rate might change. He said their jobs often change after they are already enlisted. He wanted to be a sonar tech. Now that seems to be up in the air. I guess that puts grad and go in question too. That would be the only bonus to his rate change.
  • newmom60

To Flabin36: 900 Unit are usually in Ship 06. Check the ship number.
  • Mom-to sailor-Alli_Div950-10/29

My daughter wrote also -- she is apparently in Ship 02 also. She said that initially she was told it was ship 6, but then they changed it. she said they are living on the Ruben James "which is brand spanking new".
  • txsailorsam-Donna

Krissanna'smom... hang tight. My son is in week 3 been there 4 and a half weeks. He was very homesick at first. He is doing well. We have seen a change in letter content the last two weeks. It is a big adjustment but they can do it.
