I sent make up and just overnighted it all.....
  • zacksmom

I don't know about going to the meet and greet. We should get there in the afternoon. Kids may just be ready to go for a swim or something. I'll play it by ear. There are 6 of us. What time will you be there navymomm99?
  • navymom99(ship09 div075)

We will get into union station in chicago around 10am so it not sure how long it takes from their to the hotel. We should be there in plenty of time. There will be 3 of us and the baby.
  • newnavymom(Ship 03 Div 79)

I got my call, but said rdcs were unhappy and they may not get liberty??? Is this idle threat or can they take away liberty after graduation? he is not a grad and go.

    ARWIN--any insite???

  • Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons

So happy for all the new sailors Wooyah!!! If you get the chance to go to the Meet and Greet you will be glad you did. We had a great time and it was awesome meeting so many of our new friends and kids are welcome as well. Bring the whole family ;-)
  • lynniemarie

    We have a SAILOR!! HOOOOOOOOOYAH!
  • diannep

Yes, they can take away some liberty, but this right now is used more as a motivator than anything.  It gets their attention and they behave!
  • diannep

    SN=Seaman (E-3), SA=Seaman Apprentice (E-2)
  • diannep

Missa'sMom:  You can mail her the makeup.  I don't think you can drop it off to her on Thurs. I would mail it a quick way...just to make sure it gets there.
  • jackinixon

Hi Cheri(submom)....My son is going to Groton on the 22nd too...He said there are a few more going too...congrats and cya friday! :-)
  • MountainMama(ship3 div081)

I got my Div 081 shirt in the mail today!!  It's really cute, but I'm gonna have to have my son explain what all of it means.  I love it!
  • Northwest Annie

Does anyone know what it is they are doing at BC the next couple of days. Is it some kind of sports event with everyone participating? What's it called? Is it fun or is it just more PT?
  • Dani_Girl (ET wife)

Captain's cup, I think. It's supposed to be fun.
  • tstms2003

Today is the Captain's Cup. Different teams (which I'm guessing would be Divisions) compete until there is only one team left and they win the Captain's cup. Last time I deployed overseas we were joint service and we had a Commander's cup (same thing different name) once a month. For next week my son said they are going to be getting ready to graduate on Friday so I guess more practicing. They still need to stay on top of things and keep their military bearing or the Drill instructors will make their lives very uncomfortable. So they can see the field but they aren't out of the woods until the Tuesday after they Graduate.

  • waiting for you (SHIP 3 DIV 080)

Sorry I didn't update ya'll about my call yesterday. When I got off the phone with him I had to leave to go to his parent's house to hang out with them and give his lil brother his birthday gift.

I got his call at 2:30pm. He sounded exhausted but so proud that he's finished. He said this coming week is going to be boring. Marching, and practicing for PIR. He told me he'll be stadning in the back and as they are walking and turning he'll be in the front for a few seconds, but majority in the back.

I asked him what he wanted to do during the weekend and he said he just wants to be with us, so I guess everything is going to be played by ear, which I'm totally cool with :)

He did tell me the call is only for 20 mins instead of the regular 50mins. His RDC is pretty harsh on them, but I think they will leave as better men and they will be able to handle anything that is thrown at them when boot camp is over.

He finaly received my portraits and loves them!! He shows them off to his DIV and to the RDCs. They keep teasing him and saying "There's no way that's your wife, that could be your sister, but not your wife" lol they are looking forward to meeting me :)

He still wants me and Leah to move up there, but we'll discuss it more about that when we see each other, and i told him about plan B (stay here with my parents and visit him when he gets more liberty) he seemed kinda bummed when i said that and siad "it doens't hurt having a plan B" aww

all in all it was a great but short convosation. We are soo looking forward to be in each other's arms again <3

  • cajunldr(ship 03 Div 086)

@ Daysleeper - did you say the wife had the phone off most of the day?  Knowing, he was to call yesterday??  I am missing something???
  • MountainMama(ship3 div081)

That's what I was thinking!! Why would she have her phone turned off?  I don't understand.

But my son asked me to call his father as soon as I got off the phone so I did.  He didn't answer so I left a message.  A few hours later all I got was a text saying, "Good."  Didn't call to ask any questions or get any details.  He sent him one card and one letter this whole time. I don't understand how he could be so nonchalant about it. It makes me feel so bad for my son.

  • Tchrmom Lisa

I don't get it either MountainMama. That's a man for you. I hope I'm not offending any men out there. I am FULLY aware that not ALL men are like that, but I also know that mens brains are wired differently... To sum it out MM, that's why your son called YOU and not his dad...
  • Tchrmom Lisa

Daysleeper, my heart breaks for you not hearing anything. I know that sometimes if they have watch, calls are postponed. I'll keep you in my prayers!!
  • Dani_Girl (ET wife)

Lora (Lala) I got my ribbons today and they are gorgeous! I can't wait to wear one proudly next week. Thanks! :)
  • Arwen

newnavymom, the RDCs can NOT take liberty away, but they can reduce the amount of time they get.

RDCs can choose what time their recruits MUST be back in barracks on PIR liberty weekend, from 8 p.m. to midnight. My son's division earned an 11 pm. curfew for Friday and Saturday, many others had to be back by 8, 9 or 10 pm.

Curfew is ALWAYS 8 pm on the final day of liberty, which will be Monday for this group.

  • Arwen

Some sailors who passed Battlestations don't get to call home right away. They are on watch, or some are sick after Battlestations and are on bed rest. My son had a reaction to something in the water (they get soaked from firefighting water and from flooding exercises). He was covered in "purple octopus rings" for days. It was an allergic reaction, they never did figure out exactly what cause it.

For the week (or days) between completing Battlestations and PIR, they are practicing for PIR, doing dress blues and service uniform inspections (to make sure they know how to wear the uniforms correctly), go through hours of instruction on the rules they must follow while on liberty. They also pick up their portraits, and usually get one or two trips to Ricky Heaven.

The RDCs now call them "sailor" or "shipmate" but are still pretty tough on them, they don't want the new sailors to relax too much, but they're also trying to unwind them a little so that they don't explode when they get liberty.

  • MountainMama(ship3 div081)

I keep checking the U.S. Recruit Training Command Facebook page for news on the Captain's Cup and there is nothing posted yet.  Usually it's posted by now. For that matter, they still do not have PIR 2/11 photos posted yet either. Has anyone had a phone call today by chance?

  • Nancy Ship09 Div078

Thanks everyone, I am so glad you like the ribbons. I know you will have a great time at PIR and so far it looks like good weather I think. It was beautiful here in NC today. I am getting spring fever lol.
  • gonavy2010

Lala, received my ribbons yesterday...they are wonderful!  Thank you so much for making them.  We are looking forward to wearing them with pride next Friday!!!
  • Kathy Dee

Guess the next 4 divisions are going to BattleStations tonight. (083,084,085, and 086). good luck to all who have kids in these divisions!!! Where can I find the results of the Captain's Cup?  Thanks much.

    Kathy Dee

  • diannep

Kathy Dee:  Someone may post on here if they heard about Captains Cup results.  Or maybe on RTC FB page.
  • MountainMama(ship3 div081)

For all you moms whose SR's are going to Battle Stations tonight...even though our kids are now sailors, we have not forgotten about the rest. We are all in this together, just like our kids, and our blue candles will continue to burn and our prayers will continue to go up for you all!  Try to stay at peace, but it is a day where nerves seem to take over!  Good Luck!
  • kellroy(ship2,div913)

@diannep - your battlestations discussion group shows that 913 is on 14/15, but several of the moms have mentioned their sr's told them in letters that they go tonight.  Just wanted to update you, even though I'm not really sure when they go.

  • randy'smom

MountainMama(ship3div081). Not that I'm men bashing because I'm not!!! My son's father has not wrote him once while in BC. I know it bothers my son, but he also knows his father! Mom's are mom's and some fathers are just men. Our boys know who's there for them no matter what!!!!! Only 5 more days!!! YEA!!!!!!
  • MountainMama(ship3 div081)

I never say anything bad about their dad in front of my boys because he is still their dad and they love him....but it's so hard sometimes to hold my tongue when he hurts them.  Not all men are like that. My nephew is such a wonderful father.  His life revolves around those kids.
  • bsmom

082 won Captains Cup!!!!  Way to go division 82!!!!

  • Terri,Bobster's Mom (AWF FTS)

    Copied from RTC Facebook:

Congratulations to this week's Captain's Cups winners! Div. 082 took top honors for the integrated divisions, and Div. 084 won the all-male division. Captain's Cup is a friendly, fun competition between the divisions who are about to graduate. Activities include events such as relay races, basketball, volleyball and tug-of-war.

  • Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons

My ex did the same thing when our daughter was at bootcamp. Every letter she wrote me she asked why doesn't dad write me or still no letters from Dad can you ask him to write me and every phone call the same thing why hasn't Dad written? Is he mad at me? I would hang up in tears and at the same time be so angry with him. No matter how bad I wanted to say he is a stupid jerk I held my tongue and just promised I would tell him to write. After every letter and call from her I called him and told him to write her that she kept asking why he hasn't written. Every time I got one excuse after another. Finally I wrote him a nice long text message explaining that this is hard for her and she needs encouragement and she needs to know that you support her. Stop making excuses and write the dang letter and take it to the post office or drop it in a box they are on every corner. It was a huge guilt trip and he finally wrote her one letter. You would think he would understand that she needed that communication since he was in the Army. I have never been able to understand how some people mostly men but some women too can distance themselves so much from their own kids when  they divorce and remarry. It is sad.  Sorry I guess I needed to vent.
  • MustangMom (Ship03, Div 080)

TC7 - Where did you stay while you were there?  Do you have any restaurant

suggestions?  Are you glad you took a shuttle vs driving. I am trying to decide what to do.

  • exxie

Congrats to 082 and 084 - Captain's Cup Winners!!!  Nicely done!
  • Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons

We stayed at the Navy Lodge, 2 very comfy beds with a kitchen. Not 5* but great for the time spent there and especially great for the price. I think it was 65 a night but you have to ask for the room with a kitchen, it is the same price as those without kitchens. They were doing a little remodeling when we were there in the summer so it may be much better now.
  • MariaM

Lala, we are staying at the Navy Lodge...how  far is from Graduation Hall? . Im thinking wew are insite the base? Please advice....so I can take the group. Thank you.

  • bev618

Sunday and waiting for Tuesday when I finally get a call from my new Sailor!  Can't wait - (Div 805) - so proud of all of our young men and ladies who have chosen the military!  And congrats to the winners of the Captains Cup!
  • randy'smom

bev618,My son is in the same div. I am so excited for Tues. to get here!!! Leaving Wed. for GL.  Good Luck!!!!
  • Kathleen

MariaM, Although the Navy Lodge is on base, it is on the other side of the base.  So, to go to PIR, you still have to drive, which means going off base and then back onto base through the right gate for graduation.  (And, make sure you take the parking pass.  If you have military stickers on your car, they won't get you into the PIR parking.)  The NL does not have a shuttle to graduation and it is too far to walk.  We opted for an off-base hotel, with a shuttle, that was also a little less expensive than the NL.
  • MariaM

Thank you Kathleen, I will pass the info to his Dad.....I have the Passes. Just cant wait to get there!!!
  • Sailormom21811

Hat's off to Div's 082, and 084!  Great job on the Captains Cup wins!  I know you all had a great day competing together!  Look forward to seeing all perform on the 18th!
  • Arwen

Actually, the Navy Lodge is less than 1000 feet from recruit barracks, but the gate and MCPON Hall are on the other side of the base. You have to go all the way around to get in.
  • diannep

kellroy, thanks for the Battlestations update.  But the only way that 913 goes tonight is if 85 and 86 go tomorrow night, which may be true?  They only allow 4 groups to go through at once.  So I it is possible that 913 goes tonight with 83 and 84, and 85 and 86 would go through tomorrow with 805.  I will put both "scenarios" up in the Battlestations discussion group.

    Thanks!

  • kellroy(ship2,div913)

diannep - don't know for sure if my info. is correct -- that's just what some recruits in 913 div. have written to their moms -- it's making me crazy as I don't know when to expect a call!  I probably won't leave the house for the next two days just to be safe!! haha
  • Missa'sMom

Thanks Diannep I appreciate the info. I will be overnighting it in the morning.
  • diannep

No problem, kellroy....we have 3 possibilities with the remaining divisions...and if all divisions left prepare for calls as early as tomorrow, we should be covered!
  • alwaysdaddyltlegirl(Ship03Div081

Keeping all the Divisions that are going into battlestation today.. Lord give them strength, courage,an unity to pull together... Lord send them your angels to march with them an push them forward.

    Blessings.
