My son is also in Pensacola. I talk to him everyday, either on Facebook or on the phone. But I also miss the letters. Doing his own thing and loving it!!!
Well im still in groton, ct visiting my husband and have been here since last, thursday lol this sure has been the longest trip I have taken I think..... y husband would for us to just stay here since we are already up here lol
your husband and my son graduated in the same Division. Good that you guys are spending time together. That must be fantastic. Son is in FL with A school starting this week. He seems to be doing well. Have sent 3 care packages and set up skype. I sure do miss seeing him. Enjoy every minute you can.
Just checking in. My sailor is loving A school in San Antonio. I get a "good morning, I love you" text every morning and a phone call every night. It's so good to have this communication.
I hope all your sons and daughters are doing well and get the duty station they want. I keep them all in my prayers!
Hi Ladies, Just checking with you all . Well my daughter is still in GL.She was soo upset because she's been on hold for all this time, But today she got news that she will be move to her new ship and get A school started, I told her it's been almost a month. I kept telling her to find out what was going on well it turned out that they lost her folder an that's why she's been on hold all this time. Well the blessing is that they found it and she's moveing to the franklin. I really do miss her but I do get to skype and talk on the phone.I hope everyone finds themselves in good health and spirit.
Many Blessing All My Good Friends. Hi MountainMama
I get a good morning every day and we talk and text until she goes to school in the afternoon, I am so happy to be able to talk to her so much. In fact the only time I would not be able to get a hold of her is if she is at school or on duty. Skype is not going well because she does not have internet service in her barracks, she needs to buy something for her computer to connect to the internet.
Hey everyone, just checking in to see how everyone is adjusting now that their sailor is in A-School and out of basics.
My daughter is all settled in Pensacola, Corry Station, and her classes began this week. She is loving the Navy life!!
I set my cell phone to Anchors Aweigh for when she calls, I just loving hearing that song and know it is her when it rings!!!! Hey, the Navy is calling you!!!
Well hope everyone is getting back to their normal routines since we do not have to walk around with our phones in our hands, and wait for those phone calls anymore.
It was great to see some of you at PIR, a memory that we shall share for the rest of our lives.
Hi there all! My son is in Pensacola, and having a little bit of a rough time emotionally. He is waiting to class up to ATT, then AWAT, and finally his A school. He cleans barracks from 6:30-14:00, Mon-Fri. I'm sure he's depressed and homesick because HE HATES CLEANING!!! I don't hear from him often, which had ME feeling very down. Apparently, he just misses home so much & it's worse after he talks to us. I think if he spoke to one one us each, he wouldn't feel so far away! We'll get through this, I'm know. If God brought us to it, he'll get us through it!!
I know we are all worried about our kids, but I've been reading the USS George Washington page and the USS Ronald Reagan page. Those mom's are really strong. I'd be totally nuts by now. Keep all these sailors and their families in your prayers!
I agree with daysleeper, tell him when he gets liberty to take a buddy and get out. This is an adventure and he can do and see things that he may have never seen before. And lots of places offer military discounts especially places close to the base. If I were you call I would call the Chamber of Commerce there and have them send you their visitor package. Then you can look at it see whats around and send him a care package with things highlighted that he may want to go see. Just a thought....I wish you and him good luck! And you are correct if God brings you to it he WILL bring you through it. Keep us posted and have a wonderful Sunday!!!! Will be saying a prayer for you both.
Getting out is not a problem for him. He has made friends and is getting around. He said he's kind of homesick and my thing is he is NOT calling me AT ALL!! I feel like we were more connected when he was in BC!! I admitt that I sent hem a text that laid on the guilt. My husband called him and let him know that I was upset that he doesn't call me. He STILL didn't call me. I have called him a few times. I ask questions, he give me short answers. There is no conversation. Just an "interview" kind of interaction. I sent him clothes and things he asked for (he'll text me for stuff he wants). He got the box today. I made him some peanutbutter/ chocolate treats and a box of cookies. He called his dad excited and said thanks. I got a text tonight saying thanks for cleaning his chain. I am so hurt. My husband doesn't understand. He said I need to lay off him.
Thanks for listening ladies. Nice to know you are still here...
This time is hard for our sailors. You are right they are finding their independence and we are learning to let go. These are all hard to deal with. My husband and I set up skype with our son in Pensicola. That seemed to help our son feel more connected to us and us to him. Hang it there Tchmom we are all here for you to listen and help. Will pray for you and your sailor.
My husband sent Anthony his first package next-day, supposed to be there by 10:30 am next day (Thurs). Paid an obscene $52., using UPS, West Palm Bch to Pcola. Next day, no package, OOPPS! It's in Bradenton (went from coast of Florida to west coast) It'll be there by 10:30 Friday. Friday. OOPPS! Now its in Jacksonville. Back to the east coast. Although it was traveling north every day. They don't deliver on the weekends. Finally got there about 11:00 on Monday. Don't know that UPS is any better. I'd stick to supporting the USPS!!
I'm glad you got to see it finally, I was a little overwhelming and emotional to be there in person. My sailor ordered the dvd so hopefully we will be getting it soon.
Yes, I got my last week. I was so happy because at the end there was a good shot of my son getting a big hug from his brother. I got teary-eyed watching it again.I wish I could be in San Antonio for his graduation from A school!
Update: My son will graduate A school on April 22 and then come home for a couple of weeks. After that, he will be off to Beaufort, SC where he is assigned as MAA. I'm so thrilled to have him relatively close. And I'm soooo proud!
My daughter has not even started A school yet, she had been doing some kind of technical class, to prepare for A school. She is about done with that and won't start A school for about 2 more months. That's ok because she relatively close in GL. We are going up to GL for Easter, can't wait to see her. Shes a little homesick.
So glad your sailor is doing well. My sailor is doing AWESOME! He is in D.C. for Ceremonial Honor Guard. He just finished the first phase of training for that. He will be in D.C. for 2 years. He is really loving it and is making some great friends! He is trying to come home sometime next month. We shall see............ take care!
The closer it gets till he comes home, the farther it seems because I can't wait to see him. It must be hard to wait until July!
My boy's mom - the ROTC Sgt at our school did that with the Air Force and he loved it. I bet your son is really excited! It will be a great place for you to go to visit him too. I helped chaperone several trips with ROTC to the big air show they have at Andrews Air Force Base every May. I loved it.
My son is still in GL he will be starting A school in few weeks or so he thinks, suppose to last 22 days then maybe a quick trip home before C school(either Norfolk or San Diego. He is doing wonderful but very homesick some days, we can sure tell when he has days off, he calls all day!!!
Hi Everyone! My son is in Pensacola. His school is a combined A and C school. I think they call it JCAC or something like that. It lasts 6 months. His rate is CTN. He says he's never worked so hard for anything in his life. Between PT, watch, school and homework he's getting about 6 hours of sleep at night at best. Not sure how your brain is supposed to operate on that but he seems to be hanging in there. He can't take leave until school is over which is sometime in September. He said he may just wait until the holidays. That will make it a year since he left home. I sure do miss him and may go visit in Pensacola but his schedule is so demanding I don't want to disrupt his studies. Oh well, he's happy and making a wonderful future for himself and that's what it's all about. Great to see familiar names and faces on here! :-)
Yeah! I pick my sailor up from the airport tomorrow night! I get him for two whole weeks, and then I get to drive him to his duty station in South Carolina. Yes, I am excited!
I was cleaning his room today and I found notebook paper where he had written out each one of his general orders 100x before leaving for bootcamp. It's only been four and a half months, but it feels like four and a half years since he's been home. What a journey this has been ladies. I couldn't have done it without all of you!
Congrats Mountain Mama! Hope you have a great time with your MAA! My sailor (guardsman) is applying for leave to come home next month. I hope he gets the approval......Will keep everyone posted.
I'm up at Great Lakes this weekend visiting my sailor for Easter. She was able to get leave for the whole weekend with no duty so she can stay in the hotel with us. Its seems just like old times on vacation with the whole family. Everyone have a great Easter weekend.
Well, in spite of major flight delays and a mini nervous breakdown, I finally got home with my son after 3 am (it was supposed to be 9:30). Then they lost his seabag and luggage. But hey, he's here and I'm the happiest woman in the world! I hope these are the slowest two weeks of my life.
It seems like yesterday, when we were all counting down for Graduation date 02-18-2011...we have been thrue a lot since that date. My sailor, just "Drill out" yesterday, he keeps in touch with his Shipmates from Gl....he is going to apply for Leave, so he can come home....so proud of this team of 02-18!!! A lot of us built relationships for life and im so happy for it...I really hope we all stay in contact and keep posting about the progress of our sailors and us.
Hi ALL --so glad to see that some of us are still on this site! My son is at Pensacola CTN school until Sep. He is REALLY busy with the difficult schedual that this school demands. I do get to talk with him at least once a week and that is great, I can't wait to see him when he finishs school and before the next duty station.
I love the phone calls but I also miss the letters that we all got when they were in boot camp. Those were and are very sepcial to me-------
Hello All! Good to touch base again- I hope that you had a happy Easter- I found myself really missing my son again then; but it is very nice to Skype and facetime and facebook with him! We are trying to plan to get to Groton, but won't make it for his sub school graduation, sadly. Talking to him today, we discovered that he didn not get the DVD of his PIR, and never picked up the support package I sent through the Navy that had a coin in it. He went to the Navy ball- flew my daughter and her roommate out and they had a great time, and he got a coin there; now he really wants the one from Great Lakes. Any ideas how we can go back in time to retrieve the DVD and the coin?
Good Morning to all... My son finished his A school and I have him home for 15 days...yea!!!!! We are so excited to see him and spend time with him, although he is working this week while on leave at the recuiting office which is good since his sisters are in school during the day anyway. Then off to San Diego, he has been assigned to the USS Carl Vinson he is super excited for his next journey, he choose to do his C school at later date. Thank you so much for all your support over the past months
It's great to hear updates from our 2/18/11 gang! I miss the daily posts on here, but know everyone is involved in new areas. Our sailor will be at Great Lakes for AECF (FC) until the end of the year. He's almost done with ATT and is hoping they are on hold before A starts, lol! A bunch of them played paintball over the weekend thru a MWR program. I'm hoping he can play some beach volleyball once the weather gets nice. He said there are two sand courts outside his ship. Yay for fun stuff!
My son has been at his duty station for over two weeks. He has been doing training so far, but he starts his actual MA duties this week. He loves what he's doing. When I got those first letters from boot camp, I would have never believed that he would end up so happy in the Navy, but he really is. He's only 9-10 hours from home, so I plan on visiting a couple of times this summer. Can't wait!!
kathyf-what job will your son be doing? Mine is an HT hopefully they will be able to make connections. My son finally left GL and is super excited to be relocating to warmer climate, were from WI so he cant wait.( wish I was going with him) I have heard that area is very nice and it was his top choice of places to go. Hopefully he will send his mother a ticket to visit!
Hi all glad to hear everyone is doing well. My sailor is home on leave right now!!! SO HAPPY!!!! Cooking all of his favorites, of course! My husband asked why I got up at 5:30 this morning and cooked him (my son) homemade biscuits and sausage and I told him because I CAN!!! LOL He looks wonderful, he is so happy and I am so proud of him. He is in D.C. for 2 years serving as Ceremonial Honor Guard and he is loving it!!! After that he will go back to GL for his A school. Good luck to everyone and their sailors I hope you all have a WONDERFUL summer and I hope EVERYONE gets to see their sailor soon!!!
Wonderful to hear how our son/daughters journeys are going....I have been giving my son a hard time while he is home...he is such a small town boy going on carrier, which has population twice the size of the town he grew up in! !LOL So fun to have him home an live and laugh with him again, he has changed in so many ways( for the better) But still very much the same at home :)
This is so true Kathy. My son has grown so much. I can't get over the saying "he leaves a boy and comes home a man"!!! Well, it is SO TRUE!!! I am enjoying him being home but at the same time in awe of some of the things that he says now and the way he acts. He is still my little boy at heart but he is truly a great man now!!! So proud of him!!!!! Will so miss him when he leaves Saturday morning! I may be back on here crying to all of you once again!!!
Hey Ladies, been awhile since I have been on this page. Hope this finds all of you well. My sailor graduates A school June 14th. We will be back in GL for that. He will be home for the last few weeks of June then he goes to NC for his FMBT then that is where he is to be for 2 years. Closer to FL so that makes him happy. He really does not like Chicago in the winter, lol. Have a safe Memorial Day weekend. God Bless those who gave for us.
I have been very fortunate. My sailors A school was just about two months long. He got his leave and has been home for a long weekend already. We are planning a week long vacation near Beaufort and even though he will have to work, we will get to spend some quality time with him. I hope that you all get to see your sailors soon. We just passed the 6 month mark, but it feels like a year to me!
It's just so nice that we can talk to them as often as we want now. My son and I talk or at least text everyday. How did we ever make it through boot camp? Oh yes, I remember! We had each other to lean on!!
Happy 4th of July to all my PIR 2-18 Navy moms! A year ago, we were all probably sharing our holiday with our sailors and in the back of our minds, wondering where in the world (literally) they would be on this 4th. It was a long, long winter without them but we made it through and today, on this Independance Day I am sooooo proud that my son is a part of the greatest military force on the face of the earth and keeping this country free. I am sure you all feel the same. My heart felt thanks to all those have served, are now serving and to their families for their sacrifices. Love you all!
Hi all PIR 2-18 Ladies!! My son is doing very well in his school (CTN) and looks forward to graduation in about 6-8 weeks! My family is soooo looking forward to him to come home on leave! Happy 4th of July everyone!
Good Morning Ladies...I love checking in to see how and where are sailors are. Congrats to all of them for serving our country. My son has moved aboard his ship the CVN 70 (Carl Vinson aircraft carrier) expected to deploy in November for 6-8 months in the meantime he is living and working on the ship. We also talk to him in some form everyday, we love and miss him very much!!! take are ladies thank you for all your support!
Been a while since I've posted and it's nice to catch up with you all! I think about everyone every time I see my pink scarf in the closet!
My sailor is almost done with school finally. Long 7 months! He'll get to come home for about 3 weeks at the beginning of next month before he heads off to his first duty station in.... ITALY! Can't even tell you all how excited he is. Amazing to think of all the changes in him over the course of the last 12 months.
Hope everyone is doing well and they have gotten to spend time with their sons and daughters!
Mountain Mama, enjoy your sailor. Time together is too precious not to enjoy
Daysleeper- You have to wait until next year to see your sailor? That will be one happy reunion! You will just have to make SURE you have the week off- maybe something will change that in the meantime...
My son arrived in Oceana/Virginia Beach about a week ago for C School. I guess this will be his permanent duty station. He is thinking his squadron (VFA-211/ Fighting Checkmates) will be assigned to the Enterprise, but he's not sure. It will be about 4 months before he's done with school. Said he saw a guy from his brother division (082) from Great Lakes, but wasn't able to talk to him. Hoping to catch him another time.

Italy! How exciting Sherri!
Nice catching up!
