Reggie - I don't think we are talking about the same picture as the one I am looking at does not have one male and all females in fact the person that posted the comment on the picture I'm talking about said something about her son being the first short guy after the last tall guy. Not that any of it is that important - I'm sure we al hope we know what our kid looks like but when they are all dressed alike it's a lot harder than we think!
  • Brenda72

Hoping I get mine today..... :)
  • Brenda72

  • diannep

LOVED that post....Sharon.   Reminds me of the song:

    Camp Granada

Hello muddah, hello faddah, here I am in, Camp Granada!...

Here is the link for the words....it was such a cute song and some of your SRs may feel this way right now!

    http://kids.niehs.nih.gov/lyrics/granada.htm

Ok, dating myself here...but it was a cute song in my childhood days!

  • 1DYBUGs Mom/Dana - S9/D280

I GOT MY LETTER!!!!  Actually, I got 4 letters one for me only, one for myself and my fiance', and one for each of her best friends to distribute.  lol

  • kiminaz (ship 11/div 274)

YIPPIE!!! Congratulations and enjoy them! I think I have read mine at 5 times already.
  • 1DYBUGs Mom/Dana - S9/D280

I have read it a couple of times.  It made me laugh, and it also gave me a sense of "I told you so" (I only felt a little guilty for that).
  • rhonda121199 (Div 269)

Oh my goodness!!!!  Not only did I get a letter today, but I just got off the phone with my SR!!  She sounds awesome.  I am flying high right now!!  Words just aren't enough.....
  • Mike's Mom

I also got a call.  Great!  Miss him so much!!!!  Everyone. make sure you answer your phone!!!!!!!
  • Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons

Congrats on the phone calls, It sure does make for a lot of Happy Dancing when they get to call.
  • caylex 9/279

I received the first letter from my son today!  Actually, two letters because one was to his sister.  He's in 9/279 - so they're on the way moms!!  I had to do something at the counter at the post office so I was in line. I couldn't wait, so I started reading my letter right there.  I was crying, of course, and I think the other customers thought I was crazy!
  • Jana

I'm hoping for a letter in the next couple of days.  I understand some people who have SR's in my son's division got a letter today, but they live closer to GL than I do, but it wouldn't surprise me if my son didn't write, but I'm still hoping!!
  • caylex 9/279

Jana, yes I am in Michigan so only 3.5 hr distance.  I bet yours is due by Saturday!  :)  I think you'll find that he will write to you.
  • diannep

Many who normally wouldn't "write" will want to. Remember, you are the only connection for them to the "outside world."  I wasn't sure mine would write either (he said he wouldn't, said he would call when he could).  Well, he wrote 4 or 5 times (a record for him) and told me how much my letters and the letters of others meant to him.  BootCamp changes alot about your SRs!  Mail is like Christmas Morning for them!
  • HM Wife! Ship11 Div273

MAIL!! <3 Finally got my real letter today! I also got my wisdom teeth out and despite the pain today is a great day!! OOHRAY Ship11/Div273!!!
  • SailorsCupcake Div269

Glad that so many got a call! I too got a call from my SR today, it's the most magnificent feeling!!! My heart burst with joy when the phone began to ring!!! :) he sounded great and said he's the Laundry PO for their div. So proud of him and how well he's doing! <3 I hope EVERYONE got to hear from their SR's!
  • caylex 9/279

It makes me so happy that so many of us are starting to get letters and calls!  I'm sooo looking forward to a phone call.
  • Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons

Communication is a WONDERFUL thing isn't it :-)
  • diannep

...and....full communication will be back during A School!
  • Betsy, mom of Stennis sailor

Yes, as diannep and Lala stated full communication is just around the corner!
  • Reggie_Ship11/Div274

Looks like several of us had CHRISTMAS in July! Ladies n Gents, listen to what diannep-veteran wrote...she is absolutely right...My SR has never been one for  sentiment...let alone emotional sentiment...WRITE THOSE LETTERS...even short ones...my SR said it's what keeps them going...it really is! he said when he'd heard there was a letter for him...it gave him the mental stregnth to push himself stronger and harder...IT MEANS ALOT to them folks...i so thought he would think i was just being mushy mom having separation anxiety and would give me CRAP (tease me) about it...but it was just the opposite...he said the letters give him the will and strength to push harder and be stronger! WHAT A GREAT DAY! keep the faith everyone! the letters will come! and they do appreciate your efforts! ALL THE BEST TO ALL OF YOU!!!

  • Brenda72

Made my reservations and will go to Meet and Greet...now I'm nervous! lol
  • SailorBrittysMom

I got 1letter, step dad got 2, grandparents got 1 best friend got 1 brother none, he's 20 but is a bit sad.... Britty doesn't realize how much her brothe really loves her!
She wrote, She's been to "medical"on base & one day had to go the hospital off base! & I've NOT gotten a call... She wrote, to my parents, not us! She had something on her leg that swelled up & they cut it open puss came out, they packed it with gauze & she has to have it checked daily, missed 1st swim.... I'm a bit freaked out.... I've got experience with our painter having a clogged sweat pore & it sounds similar to that but she wrote to my hubby thinks she got bit by something....
  • SailorBrittysMom

Brittys always trying to not let us worry about her.....so of course she minimized whats going on with her leg.....oh & she said she's missed mail calls cause she was at medical when they pass it out, ;( she's going to have lots of reading when she finally gets mail,
I laughed when I read she's excited to show us how she can fold clothes, iron & make a rack....;)
  • Kimberley (Dillon's Mom)

Got my first call 11/274!!! Only 5 minutes instead of 30, but I was happy to hear his voice!! Said they earned the Scholastic flag! Very tiered.. but in good spirits...
  • diannep

SailorBrittysMom:  Ugh....can imagine your concern. Just know that they have great medical care there and won't jeopardize the health of the SRs.  Hoping that by opening it up and letting it drain, she is on her way to healing.

So sweet that she doesn't want you to worry about her.....

Also, along the lines of what Reggie said about mail.  If your SR mentions a bunk mate not receiving any (very sad but it happens in each PIR group), please ask for the name of the SR and send a message to all on here with the name/address for him/her.  That way, anyone who wishes can write to this SR.  I have seen the posts after this has been done....what a smile is put on that SR's face!

Just hit the "Send Message to Group" prompt at the top...remember, no last names can be posted on this board.  We want to get all of these SRs through bc and let them know they are prayed for and cared about!  HOOYAH!

  • SailorBrittysMom

I just hope for a call soon to know if she's is ok first & if she's on track for pir with her group! She said shes met some great new friends, but didn't tell me names.... I wrote yesterday & asked though as it'd be neat if some were your children! ;)
  • Kira's mom Ship 02 Div 941

Kira met someone who is going to A school with her and they hope they can be roommates. She didn't tell me her name either. I will ask her.

  • Jana

Yeah, I got my first letter today.  It was short and sweet.  From the sound of it, it sounds like he hasn't received any of my letters.  He said "Don't forget to write back".  I wanted to jump through the letter and tell him I have written 4 so far!!  He sounded in good spirits.  Said bootcamp was fun and said he got a bunch of shots. He said he was 1 pushup away from passing his first PFA and that they were having an inspection yesterday and if he passed, he would go to the next phase--whatever that means.  He still thinks it's cool that he will be graduating on his birthday--well I must admit, so do I.  It was great hearing from him.

  • Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons

When you write your next letter tell your recruits to tell their friends to write to their families and tell them to check out Navy for Moms. You will be surprised how many people don't know about this site and how many find out very late.
  • Bev Ship 02/Div 941

Just got a call from my daughter! Best medicine I have had all week!!. Someone ( my mother) wrote her and told her that i was in the hospital, with probably appendisitis, but maybe a tumor, so that poor girl has been worrying so much about me knowing I am a two time cancer survivor. ( it was appendix) I had requested no one tell her so i could let her know on the phone and she could be told that it was nothing compared to what we had been thru. She was a little better when we got off the phone. She did say their were over 100 girls praying for me last night... Thanks Moms!
  • Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons

I glad she got to call Bev to ease her worried mind. And I am glad it was your appendix this time and not cancer. Prayer is a wonderful thing :-)
  • diannep

Wheewww....Bev.  So glad that it was appendix and hope you heal well!
  • Patttea

Ship 11/ div 273 We got our first letter yesterday and a 5 minute call today. I'm on cloud 9! Ryan mentioned in the letter that he is doing good except it gets lonely even though he has made quite a few friends. He is the Section Leader for his division and has to do extra "IT"(intensive training) when someone in the group screws up! He said they get mail almost every night Monday - Friday, but can only mail on Sunday so 2-3 days for our letters to him but 4-5 for his to get to us.(South Florida). I had to laugh that in his letter he talked about during "Free Time", he does Ironing and Folding.....OMG, I would love to see that!
He said both in the letter and on the phone that letters and pictures mean so much and to keep them coming. It helps with the loneliness.

It was fantastic to hear his voice and said he did well on a test so he will prob.get another 5 minute call in the next few days. My husband and i practiced 3-way calling on our cell phones which worked out well today.

He also said that at the 6 week point they are suppose to get the information when they ship our to A-School after PIR. We don't know if we should come home Sat or Sun. Any suggestions or comments on that?

**FYI- we received Ryan's boarding pass from American Airlines in his "Box".You can go on line and open an AmericanAdvantage miles account. They can start to earn miles for free flights. As long as the Navy puts them on American they can claim the miles.
  • diannep

Patttea:  Stay until Sunday if you can...just in case.
  • Kira's mom Ship 02 Div 941

Kira called today too.  It is so great to hear her voice. She told me that she leaves for A school on the 27th but doesn't know what time. I am a little disappointed because I wanted to spend the whole weekend with her, but like she told me, at least she isn't a grad and go. So I guess I will take what I can get :) I just booked our hotel and flights. I can't wait to see her!
  • diannep

Kira'sMom:  With the "old" definition of "GradNGo," she actually would be a GradNGo if she is flying out!  Very few (if any) leave on PIR day for A School, other than the ones moving over to GL after PIR, and then they get the rest of the weekend with family normally.

I hope that you will spend some time with her at the airport on the 27th.  You will have to be there in the wee hours of the morning, but that time is so precious!  You can get a gate pass (have her with you--and your ID) and stay at the gate with her until her flight leaves.

So glad you got a phone call!

  • Doreen(07/272)

Our SR just called....ship 7/DIV 272. We left our cell phones downstairs, he called three times. Thank God hubby went down for a ladder and saw a strange number on my cell and answered. He's having fun, really enjoying it. He did say they are all getting sick-sounds like a cold. And the A/C is out on their ship....he sounds so grown up!

what is the Blue Candle Event

  • Kira's mom Ship 02 Div 941

Thank you for the information Dianne. Do you know how many people can get the gate pass? There are 4 of us going. Thanks.
  • tysmom

Hi ladies! My son graduated on June 17 so I am a new veteran. He is now in Groton, CT doing BESS school before his sub school. He is also grad on Aug 26 from BESS. What wejust  found is cheap cheap flights on cheapflights.com and then we selected  CheapOair.Tue/ Wed flights are by far the cheapest but it would not hurt to check it out.

My phone experience was: My SR called when my phone was dying and we had to put it on the charger so he could call back. I had kept it with me all the time except that time. It was in the house and his younger brother found it ringing only to have it die ugggh. Keep it charged and with you. Our calls were very few...maybe three times and not even on Mothers Day!

Airport memories.....I left my drivers license at home...needless to say the airline would not give me a pass to get into the gate area at 3 am Sat after PIR. My husband went in and I waited...I prepared myself for that cause by then I knew my license was at home! Check to make sure you have your ID.

Most of the SRs get sick.....lots of friendly germs from all over the US in an enclosed area!!!! My SR had the worst ear infection since he was a little boy. He was on light duty for a few days because of it.

Be a bit creative with what you send as long as it fits in a small envelope. I went to ESPN and copied sports news and wrote on the other side. It could be done with area news or music etc Just keep sending those letters and cards as long as the cards are in white envelopes and they do not sing. Having a family get-together....buy a card and have everyone write a short note. I also had wallet size pictures made of family members and his favorite cat.

  • Doreen(07/272)

Up to this morning, my phone has been in my hand. We were fixing the shower in our bathroom, and while hubby ran down for the step stool, I thought "I didn't tell the youngest to answer the phone". Then I hear my hubby talking down stairs...and as he's walking up I hear " your mom looks every day on the RTC Facebook page to see if there is a pic of you". I started yelling and jumping up and down like a school girl! Still on cloud nine...
  • Betsy, mom of Stennis sailor

Kira's mom, They do allow 4 people and, most of the time, if there are one or two more, it's also usually not a problem.
  • Betsy, mom of Stennis sailor

Doreen, Woohoo, on the phone call.  :)
  • diannep

Kira'sMom:  As you can see from tysmom's post and Betsy's post, ID is the "must have" for the airport gate pass.
  • HvnlySno (S11, DIV 276)

Very disappointed....no mail! I thought for sure today. :(
  • hstolz

Hi everyone ... anyone else with Ship 11 Div 273? Missed my phone call - SO BUMMED. Was teaching a class and had the phone on vibrate. My SR also says how much the letters and cards mean to him!!
  • Betsy, mom of Stennis sailor

Patttea, I would avoid using names on here.  The SR's will only know each by their last names and you are not allowed to use last names on here.  If you would like to know the names of other SR's it would be ok to private message the moms in your division.  Due to security reasons, it is not a good idea to put names on this site.  It is a public site!  Another reason for this would be that the RDC's do come on here and they may be able to identify your SR.  There have been reports from other moms that their SR's were singled out by things that their mom's had said in these forums.  Our children have enough to deal with, without having to worry about being teased on our behalf.
  • Patttea

Bestsy.momofPensacolasailor: thanks for that info. i tried to delete the comment but it is not letting me do so even though there is a highlighted area for it
  • Patttea

Thanks TC, My son -in -law who has been with the Air Force for many years says we need to get used to the action of "hurry up....get there....and now wait". Sounds like the same way the SR's get to the airport and wait for hours. It doesn't matter what airport, we are going!
