Lots of SRs+close proximity and germs+hard training/fatigue+lots of vaccinations at one time+emotional ups/downs = RICKY CRUD!
I agree with Betsy...few escape some type of illness, but they all seem to survive and get through it. Even the ones who normally never get sick (like my son) may get something. Don't worry...they keep a close eye on them...and have great medical care if needed!
Hello... Question: My SR is DIV 271, His A-school is G.L. He said weekend liberties after PIR has stopped, only Friday to visit. Not sure if he's worring about me. Has anyone heard anything about this? Thank you everyone....
I just got a letter from My SR 09/279 She is doing good but still missing home. I also got a phone call yesterday from as well I told her She will be fine and God is Faithful I told her theresa Water works mom
peony45: I believe Sharon is correct. They used to allow GL sailors overnights, but stopped that several months ago. I have not heard that they did away with daytime liberty for them. I don't think that would be true. It is up to the A School though.
Great post, Sharon! And...if your SR says they got "beat"...don't worry....doesn't mean they got hit either...but they may have had intense IT for punishment for a long time!
Are their weeks from Sunday to Saturday, or what? If I count back from 8/26 it seems like they would be in week 4 right now. This has been confusing for me for a while now, trying to figure out what the SRs are likely to be doing at a given time. Talked to my SR a week ago 7/21 and she said they had already done PFTs that week, and that would have made last week the third week. So...help?
Cathy: Remember...they have processing days when they first arrive...these can be anywhere from a week to 2 weeks. Also, all in a division arrive up there at different times. So you will find different numbers of processing days within the same division. They have to wait to "fill up" a division before starting training...so if your SR is one of the first ones in, they wait longer.
Last week may have been her 3rd week up there, but it may have been her 1st or 2nd week of training.
Ask her in a letter to tell you what date was her 1-1 (Weed 1, Day 1) of traninng. Weekends/holidays don't count; days are numbered 1-5. Whatever weekday was her #1 day....the same weekday will be her #1 day each week...just the week numbers change.
They finish training on either 6-5 or 7-1. BattleStations then.
Sharon and diannep, yall are exactly right! Div276 starts week 4 next week... When I talked to my husband he just mentioned that its gonna be a very busy week with activities and tests. Of course I wasent in the right state of mind to think about asking him all about it, as you can imagine my shock of just hearing his voice, lol. But the extra inspections and such does sound correct... And I dont think 3:30 would matter much to my SR, since he tells me they already wake up at 4! :) (not all mornings though)
I will ask her in my next letter. Dianne and Sharon - going by what you wrote and thank you by the way - she may have begun training relatively early compared with other divisions. She is in Division 270, the second one formed for this PIR group. She arrived 6/28. I appreciate this, I've been trying to figure out what week is what for a while now!
I have heard some people say that Div 279 is a Push division. I guess that means they are covering more in a shorter time period. My son arrived at bc on 7/5 and will graduate 8/26. I was really expecting a 9/1 graduation date, but I guess when he arrived the division was close to being filled up?
I know that I could just wait for an answer from her but since it would probably be something like two weeks before I would hear back from her, I am still sitting here trying to put things together, with help from all of you. :-) If we know that PFTs are in week three, she would have to have started week 4 by today. A letter she wrote on the 17th said "I have to do PFTs this coming week" and when we talked to her on the 21st she told us that she'd passed her PFTs. Thankfully, about a week ago I asked when she does Battlestations. Maybe it will be in a letter this week, maybe next week, but sooner than 2 weeks! If I have to, I will count backwards to figure out where she is in the timeline! :-)
Cathy: Also, her division (270) along with brother division 269, will be starting off Battlestations for this group. They go in order...from lowest to highest div #, except for the 800 and 900 groups which are random...can go alone or with a set of brother divisions. These 2 divisions are the furthest along in training. It's possible the 271/272 are at that same point as well.
I have listed the brother divisions in the BattleStations discussion group above.
i got a letter today - OMG ~ i am SO glad i got a call monday because she states she is writing to me on sunday, and yet she didnt mention anything about her leg & in the phone call she said she thought she was going to start to swim the next day... but i would have worried another week or 2 maybe.... her letters are full of NOTHING well she writes i miss you so much, im glad your friends with hayleys mom tell me about your dr visits how is your cancer, and that she hopes we got insurance on the tickets in case something happens to hold her back....OH she asked for cotton balls to shine her boots! how am i sending that?? oh i was yelling and laughing at the letter - so glad i wrote to her on tuesday and sent her a questionaire saying to give me information and tell me about your day! darn kids.... oh and the letter to her best friend again only asked about her day oh & BOYS...she says cause even though she does have a close friend in the ship 11 but different division that got there a week after her pir is the next week too) & she sees him daily but cant talk to him!! she tells her friend, its so weird...oh she said they are 3-1 but i am thinking it was 4-1 as they were starting weapons...
Mail Call ! I got 2 letters today I could not be happier. She is doing well and had no complaints. She is doing well and her spirts are high. I couldn't ask for anything more..........except maybe a phone call that she thinks she will get this week. Her call home to her dad was a reward call. WTG Sam !
Jana, that is the same date I expected PIR to be, so you must be right about it being faster. I even asked the recruiter, and he didn't really have an explaination for it.
Remember, 269/270 and possibly 271/272 will probably be done with BattleStations by Fri morning, 8/19th, a week before PIR. Higher-numbered divisions could possibly not finish until the day before PIR...but hopefully not...hoping that they finish on Wed...however, this is a large group, so we shall see!
hello everyone - this morning i sent out a email from navymom@wavecable.com with an excel attachment for everyone that has indicated they wanted the lanyards - if you didnt get the email PLEASE e-mail me at navymom@wavecable.com so i can get you added - and i will need to stop orders soon so i can make sure everyone get the lanyard for the Meet & Greet! Oh yuck--looks like we will be on the road when Div 269 goes through Battlestations. Hopefully everything will go well. We are leaving Tuesday so that we can take our time driving and I won't be so fatigued when I get there. He did not pass his initial PFA--missed it by 1 pushup, but passed everything else. I was worried about the swimming part, but he said he passed that with no problem. He also did not pass his first inspection. He said he didn't fold his towel correctly or something. In a letter I got today, he said that they had a 50 question test last Friday and he passed it-only missed 4 questions, so got a 4.6 out of 5.0 whatever that means. He said they're about a week away from firefighting and firing the pistol, (they already learned how to handle it) and the
2nd PFA. He says he's gonna ace it. My question is this--is he in danger of being set back because he didn't pass the initial PFA or 1st inspection? What exactly do they have to pass to graduate?
No, Jana. No worries. The one they HAVE to pass is the 3rd PFA. They can be asmoed (setback) if they don't pass that one. These others are practice for them.
To graduate, they have to pass all academic tests, and final PFA. Just keep encouraging him....he'll get there!
I looked back at my daughter's letters....she said their first inspection was on July 15th, their 2-1 day. That would make 4-1 starting today.....guess this is the start of "hell week".....am I figuring this right? If so....should probably not expect phone call until end of next week possibly?
diannep: do you know when the 3rd PFA usually occurs?
Allie/Sharon: I will bump up the BattleStations discussion. Click on the link in it. Should explain it!
By the way, was informed that we can no longer put dates of BattleStations on this site. So no more schedules. What I will do is have you all PM me when you get a date for your division. I will then form a schedule and PM it out to the group. OR...you can also PM to the group (prompt up top) and I will just formalize a schedule when it is time. I want you all well aware of when they are going through (from the best we know) and ready for the I'm a Sailor calls. But we can't have the dates on this forum anymore. :-( But we'll work it out!
Did we get letters! Three for his Dad and I , six to his girlfriend, and others to friends and family....but no call :( I miss his voice. Although, in the letters he sounds good. Crazy Kid loves PT and the Chow.
Can we send news articles from the paper? They can get that right?
Waited til today to purchase our tickets for PIR on 8/26 and damn...they went up $40 each! I should of got them the beginning of the week. We just couldn't decide which day to come home. oh well......the days
Jana: The "pm" sometimes does crazy things. I sent out a message to 4 people the other day....and the 4th person who got it wasn't even the one I sent it to....nor was that person's name near the name I wanted on the friend list! Crazy. Check it later...it should finally work.
Patttea: We suggest that you copy the newspaper article on computer paper (or the back of your letter) and send it that way. Some RDCs don't like the newspaper itself coming in. BUT....please make sure it is not negative news...sports scores, etc are ok.
Yes very relieved!! He wrote on the 17th as it was their first day holiday hours...lost the privilege after 2sentences! Then got them back the 19th! Where he finished the letter. It was postmarked the 25th & got to me today! So anyone in Div 276 let my SR know he's got letters on the way! LOTS! Just say from his Alaska girl! Lol! Oh ya they had an inspection & he passed the 20th was the fitness test I believe...I'll confirm later. And he got there 6/28 so earlier than I thought! So proud of him!!
When I spoke to my son last Saturday, he said that the Friday before was 3:1. So, I guess it's Hell Week. His younger brothers are secretly excited about this.
