Mellie-- Yes they will get their Phones back and can use them anytime they are "Off  duty" (Evenings, weekends, holidays) So more like a normal life!! As for Starting A school, that can be anywhere from a week to wait to 3+ months.  Just remind him he is getting paid to wait and to take advantage of the time to learn what he can on his own.  There is more than just their A school material.  He needs to learn the Mottos "Hurry up and Wait" and Semper Gumby!! With the Navy, nothing is for sure until after it has happened!! Plans change, sometimes  even in the middle of the plan!

  • Shanny

Mellie:  there is sometimes a wait for class to start. He has physically been there since September 28th. But they aren't just sitting. They will be put on a crew, they stand watch, they get assigned to special duties. My son did some landscaping around their barracks after hurricane damage (he landscaped the last two years he was in high school), he is now doing the admin work for assigning watch shifts and making sure people show up on time.  He is just waiting for an opening in a class. But he said everyone that he knows of that went for the same rate from his PIR is still waiting for a class.

He got his phone as he was leaving RTC for the airport. I have heard if they are in holding waiting to leave they can have their phones as long as they are in holding off RTC side of the base. Since my son isn't in classes I probably hear from him more often than others with classes do. Usually a random text or snapchat but its something every day

  • belovedbyHim

Update.... I just refreshed my thermometer.... It's 5 degrees out!!! It's not even the coldest part of the night!! YUCK!!!! tomorrow isn't looking any better!!! On the plus side... it should help with the wildfires!!

  • Shanny

BelovedbyHim:  did you say 5 degrees?!?!  I am not complaining about 39 anymore!  A friend of mine was so excited to see the snow in Colorado!  She said she hss never been so happy to see it.  I hope the heavy snows and cold temps bring much needed relief!

  • belovedbyHim

Shanny-- Yes 5 and falling.  News says 3 but it may go lower since the deeper cold is due in tomorrow.  It has really just given the firefighters time to rest and regroup.  It's too cold and icy for them to actually fight the fire in these conditions.  Someone could get hurt.  It will slow the spread for the next few days so hopefully they have a chance to save Estes Park and some of the homes in Grand Lake.

  • VintageGal

Ladies there’s a bite in the air!! Dang your temps are downright frigid!!
I’m freezing my tail off and it’s 62 and windy! I just got home from my mother-in-law‘s house and I had to run in the house! berrrrr
Time to put on those cuddle dud’s! :-)
  • belovedbyHim

Cuddle Dudds on since I crawled out of bed this am at 19 degrees, but they don't help much at 5. I just added a blanket and have the heater on and the fireplace (Gas on a switch) on!

  • VintageGal

Mellie- Welcome! No better time than the present to join. But dang you’ve got us all beat! I bet you are more than ready for his graduation! My son graduates this week as well after his second ROM. We’re all talking about how we’re holding our breath until we get our calls. Feel free to share with us whatever you want. We’re here to laugh, cry, and vent to each other. And as I’ve been saying all weekend facing this week ahead LOL- HERE WE GO!
  • Mellie

Beloved by Him - Ok on the phones.  Thanks for that info.  "Hurry up and wait"  Got it.  I remember something about that motto in his letters.  Lots of patience building.

Shanny - thank you for the info.  Yes, excited for the next phase - chapter - assignment - school.  :-)

Vintage Gal - Yes, I'm ready!  His original ship out date for BC was Nov. 5th, so technically he's finishing before that date - that's the bright side.  Thanks for the encouragement!  Everyone - thanks for the encouragement!

Vent - I'm saddened that the PIR has changed from all the pomp and circumstance and now is less grandiose.  I'll get over it - just had to mention.  It's just the dance teacher in me that likes all the fanfare - watching on the video the big door open with the marching sailors behind it gave me chills.

    Stay warm and snuggly!

  • partyofseven

belovedbyHim- brrrrr stay warm out there. We are going to drop down 30 degrees and our night temperature is going to be 41 this week. Whee It just doesn't usually happen this fast. I call this weather sick weather as people get sick out here really fast when we have weather like this.

Stay safe and warm and hopefully you'll get a break from the fires.

Mellie- Welcome to our group. We are glad you are here. Yes hurry up and wait is something we have to live by.  :) Sorry to hear about your SR having been in ROM so much. Prayers for him to finish strong and healthy this week.

Good night ladies and stay warm and toasty out there.

  • kim's husband Troy

Good morning all! We are so far behind on the weekend posts so have some catching up to do today. Blue candles everywhere at our place as several of our SR's head to BST-21 this week. Felt a small sense of relief this morning as we were able to navigate the weekend constantly muttering "No News is Good News". Hoping for a Sailor call in the next day or two since our SR is in and earlier division number.

Prayers out to everyone and their families and a special welcome to those new to the group! You will have the best support with all of the wonderful people on this site!!

    Phones on everyone!!!

  • Shoosh

    Good morning ladies!

Shanny I hope your back is feeling better. I always feel so silly when I tweak my back or neck doing absolutely nothing. Do you use essential oils? I make a blend that works wonders on muscle pain.

VintageGal sending so many positive thoughts your way this week!!

I got to spend Saturday afternoon with my 5 month old granddaughter. She has been a true blessing and keeps my spirits up when I'm missing my girl. Speaking of which, I got her letter when I got home, so Saturday was a good day!!

She sounded mostly upbeat and positive, even though very disappointed. 4 more girls got pulled from her division (412) so there are a total of 12 of them. She said she is happy to have some familiarity. They are in cubicles, one bunk per cubicle. She was told vegetarian meals are better so she is temporarily a vegetarian :) Was very excited about a PB&J uncrustable lol.

She also said there was some conflict between some of the girls, they were upset with the SR who advised another to go to sick bay when she was experiencing symptoms. I can understand why they were upset, being so close to graduation, but that poor girl was only trying to do the right thing.

Anyway, I was so happy and relieved to hear her put a positive spin on the situation and inject some humor to make her mama smile.

She didn't say anything about a mailing address, and the return address on her envelope was her original division, so I don't have an update on that. She did say at the very end "PS I got your letter" but I have no idea if that was snail mail or Sandboxx. Hers was regular USPS and postmarked 10/21 so I got it fairly quickly.

I like to write, so thought I would share my latest with you all. Hope you don't mind!!

Hey, everyone.  I haven't been in here in two days and I'm trying to catch up!  I still have more to read, but I will have to do it later.  But I have to say, I'm holding my breath and praying for your SRs, Kim, Vintage, Kristel!  This is the week!  And even though I'm not jncluded anymore, I honestly still can't wait to hear you got your calls!

Shabby, I can't believe that garbage can story!  Lol  I'm telling my SR in the next letter.  My husband and daughter got a good laugh out of it.

Shoosh, so excited you are getting a letter.  I hope her letter shows that she is thinking positively.  It will help her to get through this ROM.  I'm hoping for a letter.  My Informed delivery email wasn't here yet when I last looked.  This boot camp has gone so fast, but i think the next week and a half is going to go so slow.  Especially when i was looking forward to the "I'm a sailor" about now.

Well, I'm off to clean.  I've got some catching up here at home after last week.  Then I think I can visit my mom.  I guess her being in Hospice changes the Covid rules a bit.

  • Phoenixmom

  • Phoenixmom

    Morning Prayer for scripture Below:

Dear Lord, please give me the heart to trust you completely. Help me fight the pride of leaning on my own knowledge and intelligence. May I be faithful in thanksgiving to all You have given me, and may I follow your teaching. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

We had a huge windstorm last night, I couldn't sleep as I was stressed in case there was more damage. Noisy too. There were power outages just a couple blocks over, but I am okay. My home weather station says 17 degrees, "feels like 11".  Brrr. I had to run out to grab a couple windsocks which had taken flight and wrapped around my trailer wheels.  Brrrr. I didn't get snow, but others near me did.

Beloved, I have a friend who lives in between the three fires.  She posts pictures of the sky, it is terrible.  I hope they can make some progress now there is some moisture on the ground.

For those just starting off here is a blog that Mrs. BelovedbyHim has put together.

Please read my blog to give you an idea of what the first few weeks may look like.. First Things First-- The Quarantine Edition

  • Shanny

Morning everyone!!!  It is a very cloudy 43 degrees here. I am glued to the couch with a heating pad and wondering if I should get up to find more ibuprofen as this back pain is worse today than yesterday!

just had a call from my sailor. He has been up all night working on the watch assignment list. Then had to stand watch for someone who was sick this morning. He got to meet 3 or 4 high ranking officers today when he was on watch. They came in to ask questions about how things were going and just general chatting-about where they are from and stuff like that. Also informed them to get their sea bags packed for potential evacuation again.  My sailor said he probably should just keep it fully packed at this point. (They can only pack what is on a list given to them and most of it is stuff he doesn’t use daily).

well hope everyone has a great day!  Maybe some Sailor calls!!! May the letters come today and the good calls come in!  Turn those ringers up and make sure the phone goes with you to the bathroom! (Seems like that is the only time mine rings lol)

  • Phoenixmom

Good Morning Shanny, That is Great News! I bet he was tired! Evacuation? for what Covid? so they have them on their toes I see. Great Job Sailor!

  • LadyBluefire

Shanny - hope your back is feeling better! Funny how normal behavior can hurt us. My son\s report date for his PDS is 10/27 and he won’t graduate til after that, so they will change his report date. We haven’t heard when that is yet. My daughter said at her school they had no trash cans but in a pic she sent us I saw one! It is upside down so they do not use it. They take all their trash straight to the dumpsters. I seem to only hear about hurricanes coming to my state from you, lol! But really from June til November that is pretty much situation normal.

BBH - 5 DEGREES?!!!! /freeze solid and faint.

Vintage - I hope your son accepted the RPOC job! That will make it super duper easy to find him on the PIR video! He will also likely (maybe) get promoted to E2 (unless he already was - I can’t keep everyone straight, lol)

Mellie - welcome!  I vent along with you and curse the loss of that pomp and circumstance with all 4 of my sailors who PIR after they stopped it. I would have loved to have seen ONE of those ceremonies in person. So sorry your SR went through so many ROMs. Prayers he is done with all of that! You should get the I’m a sailor call - if he started BST yesterday then it will be coming today…BST starts at 8 pm and goes thru til 8 am roughly...so today the first group finishes up.

Party - I didn’t know your sailor was still at school! Thank goodness that is a much smaller pool of people to pick out from and thankfully most of those photos seem to be maskless for the most part! So nice to lay eyes on them! Miss those faces!

Shoosh - glad to hear your daughter sounded upbeat despite her circumstance. That is a great outlook to have and it will help her go far..

Csmom - hope you can visit your mom! I know our governor is now encouraging visiting the elderly in homes - it has to be hard on them mentally not to be able to visit with loved ones! Hospice needs the visits too - and considering what hospice is they shouldn’t prevent visits!

As for leave my daughter did not put in for it because she would have been mid class, but then class schedule changed but by then it was too late to put in for holiday leave. Needless to say she is very sad about that.

Wel, good morning everyone and have a great day. My hubby is off today. May some sailor calls come in this week! Ask them where they are in the march so you can spot them..

  • Shanny

PhoenixMom:  they are in the path of another hurricane. This is the 2nd since he has been there. 3rd for the season that he knows of.

  • Phoenixmom

    Good Morning LadyBlueFire

    Shanny Wow! Great to Know!

  • Shanny

LadyBluefire:  it is crazy what’s normal for some is so crazy for others. Like a blizzard and 2 feet of snow wouldn’t be a surprise for me (we get lake effect snow from Lake Michigan and are in the Snow Belt) but that would be completely insane for you. I can’t even begin to understand hurricanes of Florida or daily tornadoes like in Oklahoma.

  • VintageGal

    Good morning ladies,

I'll be able to read all of your posts on my lunch and respond :) but I wanted to say I appreciate all of you so much!!

I have to tell you that I'm a little on edge. Every time my phone rings I get the worst feeling in my stomach and I have a bit of the have the Navy allergies right now, naturally. I see that I have a Sandboxx response coming! I can't wait to hear from him! I hope you all receive letters and POSITIVE phone calls this week

I burned my blue candle this morning and said a prayer. I pray that everyone of your SR's has a good week with smooth sails and following seas.

I hope you all have a marvelous Monday!

  • VintageGal

  • Velvetenor

Hi all! Happy Monday! Been trying to catch up a little on posts here, this morning.

Congratulations to all who's Sailors had PIR last week! Bravo Zulu to them, and to you, since you made it through the harrowing COVID Boot Camp experience!

Fingers crossed for all of you who should be getting "I'm a Sailor" calls this week! I think there are at least 3 of you ladies in this category, right? I will try to stalk this page this week so that I can "hear" the good news as it comes in.

My Nuke will be starting Power school next week and he is excited to get back to class since he has been on crazy watch schedules while in T-track for the last 2 months.

For new moms who may not know, after BC the sailors in the Nuclear program go to Goose Creek, SC for their schooling. They have A School for 3 or 6 months, depending on rate, then Power school for 6 months, then Prototype for 6 months. And there is generally some hold time before A school (INDOC) and Power School (T-Track), so overall a Nuke has about 2 years of schooling before they get their first orders. That is why Nukes must enlist for 6 years instead of 4.

If your SR is a Nuke and you have any questions, please join us in the Nuke Moms group on this site!! Chipmunk's son is also a Nuke, and a few of us Nuke Moms hang around the BC Moms group, as well, so please reach out if you need anything!

Sending prayers and good wishes to you all this week!

  • Phoenixmom

VintageGal is that a Christmas tree I see up already? WOW very pretty! You beat me by a long shot, although I am done with Christmas shopping I do not have my tree up. My House will be in shambles for the month of Nov. not having Thanksgiving here but hopefully Christmas!

  • Kristel2400

BLUE CANDLES LIT/ON!!!  Praying that all of you ladies who have SRs in this weeks PIR receive our “I’m a sailor” calls this week - and nothing but!!

  • Kristel2400

Vintage ... I love your NAVY tree!! ⚓️❤️

  • Phoenixmom

    Kristel2400 nice candle!

  • VintageGal

Pheonixmom ~ thank you! This is my little tree that I have up year round and then I normally decorate it for halloween. This year, I put up my big tree in July so my SR had a bit of the holidays with a Christmas in July and then also decorated this one as a Navy tree. I don't think I'll be changing this one though. :) As soon as we hit September my kids start asking for a Fall tree even though we're still in the triple digits!

Kristel2400 ~ thank you! I love your candle too! Where did you get it?

  • Phoenixmom

Very Nice VintageGal! Love the Idea!

If you would like to view your SR's division flag they are up for viewing (up to div 428) from the apparel group that prints the shirts. I believe if you click the link above for the t-shirt orders you can drill down from the site and download for viewing. I must say there are some very artistic SR's in these divisions. You can tell they were full of Navy pride while being designed. Great job by all!!!

  • VintageGal

Kim- Aaaaahhhh thank you!! I’ve been checking in on it!
  • NewNavyMom

Hi, Everyone! I just joined this group last week. Trying to figure out to navigate on this site. Just wanted to say hi...glad to know that this group here for good days and bad! My son goes to MEPS in a couple of weeks - and then everything gets real!!!

Love that a Christmas tree is already up! My boys said no til after Thanksgiving.

    Be well, new friends!

Anti M-- Yes they are saying this won't do anything for the trees that are burning but it will stop the grasses and that will allow the fire fighters to get in closer and stop the fires with any luck.  They got over a foot of snow in the fire areas!!! YAY!!!!! The majority of fire fighters stayed in camp yesterday, it was just too cold and slippery and dangerous for them to go out to the fires especially since many of the roads are single lane, winding, steep mountain roads and 4 wheel drive trails to get to the fires.  Their goals are to save as many houses as they can while working toward containment.  We know at least one couple who perished in the East Troublesome Fire.  There is a HUGE swath of the high country that have large stands of Beetle Killed Pine and have for years!! The forest service and lumber industry were slow to find a use and issue permits so most natives have been wondering how long before a conflagration like this would happen.  You cannot have 30+ years of standing dead wood building up and expect anything different!!
I'm sorry you got the windstorm but glad it wasn't here last night!!
Hopefully there is no additional damage from it.

NewNavyMom - welcome aboard! Our SR's journey began on 9/1 from MEPS and I can promise you that the wonderful ladies on this site are an inspiration and wonderful people! I'd say that the veteran mom's should be able to answer pretty much any question you will have during this journey. There are a handful of us with SR's scheduled to graduate this week and I'd guess that our feelings are still in line with what you are already feeling. Just stay strong and ask questions and you and you SR will be graduating before you know it!!!

    Thanks for all of this!
