MomofJoseph- I actually live about 1/2 hour away from Bootcamp, lol. But my Mom is in eastern Tennessee (5 from GC) and I will stop and visit her on my way there and back to break up the drive.
Please be sure to read the ***NEW MEMBERS*** info at the top of the page. Lots of good info there. Also take a look at the Pages (20) to the right under the member profiles - be sure to hit "view all". And the discussion forum above has some good info too - be sure to read Chipmunks "Nuke A School Daily Schedule". And of course, feel free to ask any questions you may have.
Thank you! Hopefully I’m in the right place. My son is in boot camp and will be headed to school in the fall. The plan was for the Nuclear program …if all holds through BC
Welcome to all of our newest members, MomofK and others. Almost 6 years ago, I found this site the week before PIR. I gleaned a lot and I have shared a lot over the years with many of you. My style has always been to be very relational and to spend time in private messages offering information and encouragement. I knew though that the time would come when I could just not pour that same time and energy into this site. I am thankful for the few discussions and things that I have contributed that I can link you back to.
I read comments as they come into my email and I post when I can, as I have another local ministry / work and family that still needs my attention. For those of you in the midst of Nuke Life, I pass the baton on to you!! I am still around, I am still watching over my various other groups here, but the chatter, questions and responses will come more from those of you in the trenches.
Here is the link to my son's discussion on what A school was like when he was there. I did add comments as we progressed. - I also included information on T-track & homework, as well I think on Power School.
This discussion is from the BC Mom group, but it pertains to Nukes - again, if you have any new experiences after PIR, always feel free to add to the replies at the end.
Here is my discussion on Prototype-Graduation - be sure to read through it as well for those of you getting ready for that. And feel free to add any additional information if you have recently been to Prototype-Graduation. - Prototype Graduation - Goose Creek - Navy For Moms (ning.com)
Remember that the discussions in each group have a search engine as well. Sometimes your responses are better than others, but you can at least look for previous posts.
Chipmunk- Thank you so much for sharing your wealth of knowledge and your support!! It is appreciated more than you know! <3 I will definitely be going back and reading all past relevant posts as I follow my sailor through his Nuke journey!
Oli had a check up this morning. He's not quite 2 weeks old yet and he's weighing in at 9lbs 13oz! I better start working out my arms before we visit or I'm not going to be able to lift him lol!
B'sNukeMom - I always appreciate you sharing the difference between Memorial Day and Veteran's Day, and then my DIL reminded me that we also have Armed Force's Day as well.
Hi all - Happy Tuesday! I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend. We watched the "West Coast Thunder" ride yesterday near our house. It's a big motorcycle ride that honors members of the US Armed Forces. It goes right near our house but it's been on hiatus the last 3 years due to the pandemic. Nice to see it back - they were expecting 5,000 riders - I'm not sure how many there actually were but there were quite a few!
I'm counting down the days to visit my little Oli. We've FaceTimed with him a number of times but he always seems to be sleeping. I guess a 2 week old doesn't do much else lol!I It's basically eat and sleep and poop! He still sort of has his days and nights mixed up so I'll be glad for C's sake when he can get that figured out. And B is still home with them too so it's been nice for all of them. I can't wait to love on him ;-D
Morning - Phototype grad was very good! My sailor is very happy to be done with school! He is home now and will be here for another week before he leaves for the next home port. On a personal not - I am enjoying every minute i get with him because i know the next port will be difficult for me to get here. Enjoy the day!
Well, it is time to start a new chapter. Big Kid is now on terminal leave and with his wife in SC. She has a new job lined up in our area. He is still doing interviews. We are beyond thrilled to have them close by and can’t wait for them to move back later this month. There have been a lot of ups and down the last 6 years. It’s hard to believe it’s all coming to an end.
Pizanche - Congratulations to your son from me as well!! Enjoy this time with him as well.
I will share this with everyone - when my son was able to come home for a month after Prototype, I had a huge "sonny-do" list. I think I was just so grateful to have my son home who thought enough like me to figure out my reorganization tasks that I put him to work focusing on things that helped me more than finding out what he wanted to do with his "vacation" time. He left for BC a month after HS graduation, and never really had any "down" time in between because of family events. I guess I figued I could just pick up where we had left off after two years! What I did not anticipate was him not being able to be home for more than a few days at a time, maybe once a year, in the future, Covid restrictions, or getting married and his wife staying in the military.
What I would have done differently - Planned more just enjoyable nights of playing games, inviting his friends over, or encouraging him to see some of them.
Had him work on going through his stuff in his room and boxing things up that he wanted to keep and gotten rid of what he did not want. So, at least if he never came back to live at home, it would be easy to deal with. And if he did come back, he could unpack it or take where he needed to, but he would know it was at least stuff he thought he would keep.
3B'sMom - Mine is also on final countdown - Unfortunately, mine is going to be closer to you all than to me. Enjoy having your son and DIL nearby!! Please thank your son for his service!
B'sNukeMom - Long distance grandparenting is not easy, but videos, facetime, Google chat, those are all good ways to stay connected.
Thanks Chipmunk. My son is home and he is enjoying himself. He is hanging out with me, and his friends and sister. I am not putting pressure on him to do anything - I want him to enjoy himself. We do have a bon-voyage party planned for him this coming weekend and he is helping with that. I am just happy he is home for a short time.
Just got a text from B&C. Oli had his dr appt this morning and he's at 11lbs 12oz!!!! He'll be 4 weeks on Saturday when we arrive. I can't believe how big he is - I guess so much for me seeing a "little" newborn lol! C said my arms are going to feel like jello after carrying him around lol. He needs to stop growing until Lolli gets there!!!!
B'sNukeMom - Have so much fun with Oli!! My grandson was 10+ lbs when he was born, so I know how you feel. I just watched a video of him on the Family Album crawling all over the place. And my granddaughter being a "silly goose". I love them!
I'm not very active on here anymore. I just wanted to share a perspective. Life after The Navy is wonderful. When people tell someone in the Military "Thank you for your service." I now think of all the families who sacrifice. So many Holidays spent without. So many birthdays missed. I am so happy to have my son back. But I feel for every single one of you enduring your child's service. You deserve thanks too.
MomofJoseph
Dani_NukeMom - Are you close to GC? We are 4 hours away and that has been such a blessing! I dread when September comes and my son moves further away!
And that is so funny about "yelling into his headset". That made me chuckle. (Boy relationships are so DIFFERENT from girl relationships! LOL)
