Do you know if they give us the airport pass at graduation and is it for all of us or only the 4 allowed at graduation?
Whoosh, six kids?! You have my respect and admiration! I know it's very tough having so little contact with your son while he's in boot camp. Each RDC has a different policy on phone calls, so while some moms are talking about getting them 3--4 times during the 8 weeks, others of us get only 1 or 2 (my own son was only granted one phone call during BC, in addition to the 20-second "here & safe" and then the 1-minute "we passed Battlestations" calls).
He'll only be allowed to write letters on Sundays, so your letter(s) should arrive Tuesday or Wednesday each week. But, he can RECEIVE letters everyday, so write him as often as possible -- also have his siblings, aunties, grandmas, cousins, and friends write; there is no such thing as too much mail! Just don't send any enclosures that aren't paper. He can receive photos, newspaper clippings, etc.; but no food, candy, trinkets, etc. And DON'T send any musical cards... it'll draw attention to him and that's not a good thing right now. He has to show his letters to his RDC, so keep the conversation light, happy, supportive, and not very personal.
The eight weeks WILL pass and watching him graduate will be the proudest day of your life. Many moms have stayed in the Navy Lodge and I think you'll be pleased. It's not fancy, but it's clean and comfy -- and of course, right near everything important! Please don't hesitate to post questions at Indiana Moms (or any other groups you're a member of), because we're all happy to offer advice or a shoulder to cry on. Hugs! k.
GREETING FOR NEW INDIANA MOMS
Hi "ACTmom," and welcome to Indiana Moms! You've got a handsome sailor there! I'm the administrator for the group, so if you have any questions, please ask. My son is a Nuke MM serving on the submarine ALABAMA, based out of Bangor, WA. He's been in for 4 years.
If you're near Indy (or willling to drive), there's a monthly informal dinner on the west side of town, in Avon. You can find any month's dinner details by clicking on the 3rd Monday of the Event calendar (right-hand column). From time to time, we also have regional gatherings in various parts of the state.
This month, we're having our dinner tomorrow, December 13, at Charbono's Restaurant in Avon. We'll gather for drinks and chat at 5:30pm, then be seated at 6:00pm. We'd love you to join us - and you're welcome to bring family or friends!
Jump in with any questions or comments you may have. I think you'll find we're a nice bunch of folks and always willing to lend an ear to listen or a shoulder to cry on. Hugs! k.
