Alicia,

I'm sorry you're going through the sadness phase!!  When my first daughter enlisted back in 07, she just finished her junior year and went into the DEP program.  We knew her report date was going to be near the end of July in 08, after graduation from high school.  But in May of 08 I lost my mother to lung cancer after a short illness.  By the time we realized what was wrong she was gone within 3 months.  Then my Catherine left.  I felt such extreme sadness - I seriously mourned my daughter leaving for bootcamp as tho she was gone forever.  I do understand what other moms go through when their daughters leave.  I also have a son serving and I missed him when he left back in 03 but it isn't the same as when our daughters leave!!!  So I will tell you, that it will take time and there will be days when you are just so happy for your girl and then there are days when you just feel so sad!!!  All normal!!!!  Always feel free to share with us how you're doing and let us be here to help support you!!!!  My other daughter, Catherine's twin sister, just graduated from Officer Candidate School.  It was very hard when she left as well - I used to talk to her by phone everyday!!!  Even tho' we no longer lived in the same state with her, I still missed her!!!  And now she's in Florida for flight training!!!  I'll be glad when we can get back to talking by phone!!!!  So, hang in there Mom!!!  It will get better - just wait until you get to see her at bootcamp graduation!!!!!    Always feel free to contact me if you need to talk!!!
