Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

Cheripie,

This is a hard time for both you and your son. The things I've learned already...1. Keep busy for the first few weeks. 2. When you feel like crying, cry. 3. It will be atleast 2 to 3 weeks before you get a real letter from him. 4. No news is good news.

I'm not only dealing with my son not being able to write but also waiting on my ex to give me information because everything (the box and form letter) will go to him. It's tough but I'm trying hard to deal with it all.

All of the Mom's here are going through or have gone through this and there is nowhere better to get support. Lean on us when you need to. Hugs.

Cheripie, I do know how you feel. My baby who is 23 has been gone now for a little over a year. I will never forget the day he left. OMG, i thought my whole world had ended. He is now on deployment, which gives me a whole new challenge. The best advice I can give you is don't cry around him, hold him, have great times together while he is home. This wasmy second son t go military. You will be so proud of him and as time goes by it does get easier, I promise. I wish I could say something to take the pain away, but I know that all the advice in the world does not help. You feel like you are the only one going through this. Hang in there.
