I received my first letter!!!!! I was so excited to see that bad handwriting on that envelope!!LOL He sounds okay with the exception of being homesick. I am so proud of him, he picked up his trumpet after not playing for 3 years! He joined his division's band!! He said he hated Chicago but I am sure it is because it has been storming the whole time he has been there and it can't be much fun to run 2 miles a day in the pouring rain!! Anyway now I am just waiting for the phone call " that greed" I guess. Please pray for my son's continued success as I will pray for everyone else's loved one being brave enough to do what they are doing.

Can anyone tell me about the tattoo thing?? Do they really tattoo serial numbers on them?? And if so where do they put this? My nephew said they do this and I wasn't aware of it and was just wondering.

Derek was finished with boot camp when this site was developed - so I would have to go dig and figure things like that out.
Also, ours was a unique situation, he left on December 19
Therefore, he got to call home on Christmas Day. Then he called on a Tuesday in January and then again on Thursday of the same week. The Thursday call was because he was just sitting on his bunk and his RDC said something about him being so quiet - go to the hall and call home!!
Oh yea, stick around - this place is great!!!
She is awesome wealth of information!!

Where is Benton, LA?
LynnDear is in Lake Charles and I am just over the border from her!!
I have company coming in a few minutes - so I have to go kick some things under the couch - I will look for that website later this evening!!
Karen (below) is an awesome source of information - those three boys are hers and all Nukes!! The youngest just graduated boot camp at the end of May.
Mine was so looking forward to joining, and he even had butterflies in his stomach the day he left.
The best advice I can offer right now is to start writing him letters.
Send him comics, jokes, sports, anything that might interest him.
There are several things on here that I printed out and sent to my son. Number them so when he gets several in one day, he can read them in order. I think it is quantity not quality that matters here!!!
Join the Boot Camp Mom's group and look around in there. There is a website that tells you week to week what your son is doing. If you can't find it, maybe I can later!!
Also - make your best effort to join the Texas Mom's on June 27 in Kemah. We have a place for you to spend the night - you just have to get here. Check it out in the events tab.
We have several moms and maybe even a recruiter that can answer all your questions.
We are here if you need us!! Just holler!!!
Brenda
PS - we all felt the same way - and have made it this far - you will also!!
Hello and Welcome to N4M’s!
My name is Catherine the Admin and I’m glad you’ve joined us. As you start exploring you will see a great amount of chatter (IE: knowledge, support, advice, etc.) on our site (in our blogs, forums, and videos.) Before you add your point of view (POV) or ask questions, I want to share some ground rules with you. Here they are:
1) Please show respect at all times for all who belong to this community. (I like to say- Keep it civil… and everybody love everybody!)
2) For security, please do not reveal the current location of your Sailor or Officer.
3) Remember that this community is public, so anything you post (about yourself, your child or someone else) can be seen by anyone.
4) This site is moderated, so inappropriate content will be removed, like anything vulgar, hateful, violent, racist or otherwise obnoxious or illegal.
5) We may remove anything deemed inappropriate or inaccurate.
6) Members who solicit, advertise products, spam or flood on this site will be asked to walk the plank. Seriously.
7) DON'T SHOUT! Writing in capital letters means you're screaming in the digital world. That's not nice. So to emphasize a word, place *asterisks* on either side.
8) Let’s be tidy. Before beginning a new topic in the Forums, try searching at the top right of your screen to see if the subject has been addressed already. AKA- Be BEST friends with the search button!
9) Please don’t send the site's administrator (that’s me!) questions about the Navy. That’s what the Forums and your local recruiter are for. This site's administrators are NOT members of the U.S. Navy. They're here to keep the topics organized but cannot provide any Navy-related answers, nor can they respond to personal questions. (And trust me, Navy Moms answer quicker and better than I ever could)
10) Feel free to contact me with suggestions or comments about this site’s functionality.
Okay, so those are the house rules. Time to connect with other Navy moms!
I look forward to reading more about you!
Sincerely, Catherine
PS: I need you to be the unique… because you are!
We would like to invite you to join the group of Texas Mom's who are planning a get together on June 27 and 28. We are meeting on Friday night at Pappadeaux's in Kemah. Others will be joining us via webcam!!! A mom, Nicole, has offered the use of her house for moms who need a place to spend the night!! (Sorry, no spouses or kids).
On Saturday, we are headed to Galveston to spend the day at Moody Gardens. We hope you can join us!!!
Please go to the "Events" tab and leave some specifics. How many will attend the dinner Friday night? If you are headed to Nicole's afterward? How many going to Galveston with us on Saturday??
Thanks, looking forward to meeting all the Mom's from Texas, Louisiana and other places (we have one coming from California!!)!!!!!
Thanks,
Brenda
