Son had PIR and is now being sent home.

Hello,My son had his PIR on 12/15/21 and became a Sailor. After graduation he was sent to the temporary hold unit (THU) while they finalized his medical waiver. He just found out yesterday that they denied his medical waiver and he was immediately sent to Ship 5 SEP. We are both devastated. He had a diagnosis of ADHD but hasn't been on medication for it in 3 years. We disclosed this information and they confirmed everything prior to MEPS. GingerSnap - I am not a part of the ship group so that I can reply to your post, but I see that B'sNukeMom has. She is one of the admins on this site and will have the best information for you. I am sorry that your son is going through this. This has got to be very frustrating and devestating to him. I can understand why he would not want to go through the appeal process though, especially if it means being in THU for a long time.

I would encourage you to reach out to the recruiter, but they may not be able to give you any specific information since your son is over 18. I would definitely ask your son though about checking into whether or not the recruiter filed the waiver, if you can encourage him to do so.

Big Navy Mom Hugs!
