A "NAVY Speak" Question

Posted on June 6, 2009 at 7:19pm 1 Comment

I'm new to N4Ms & was excited to see the "NAVY Speak" feature because not even my son, a Naval Aviator & in the Navy for a little over 12 years now, didn't know the answer. So I tried the "NAVY Speak" but it didn't know either. Maybe someone out there knows & can tell me. What do the acronyms "CVN" on a carrier & "VFA" attached to a specific squadron mean?

Mary Ann....That quilt if a true work of love. I have never made anything that detailed. I tend to stay with the very straight lines.

Mary Ann....We are having a get together.

All invited to a get together/meet and greet on June 28, 2009 at 1100 hours.

Gathering to take place at my home:

5520 Willow Oak Way
Fair Oaks, CA

This is a casual event. I will be serving light refreshments.

As we started with our last get together choosing a charitable organization to donate to at each gathering. My choice is WEAVE (women escaping violence’s). Look through your closest and find two gentlely worn items and bring them to the get together. I will take all the donations to WEAVE.

Looking forward to seeing all on the 28th.

Bring your scrapebooks, pictures, memorabilia and stories. This is the place to talk Navy to those that understand!

Looking forward to meeting and seeing all of you.
Jody

Good Morning ~

Thanks for sharing some of your son & DIL experiences as a young married military couple. Congratulations on the 2nd grandbaby on the way. Yes, I think you're correct in that they have to have a strong sense of adventure & family to sustain them through the moves and transfers etc. Although I don't have any grandchildren yet I can imagine how nice it would be to be close enough to see them on a regular basis. The way my mom was with my children. She had a stong hand in helping rear them. God bless her soul. Thanks so much for sharing.

I'm hoping to hear from Lauren this weekend as her brother is graduating in a few days and she will not be here to witness it. We'll celebrate again when she returns from her deployment. Have a great weekend, Sherry

Mary Ann.....With some luck I will be able to move things from one room to another this weekend and get my machine set up. We have been remodeling our house and my new sewing room is almost finished. We are to the point that I can start moving things in. You know what an undertaking that is! Then of course I have to organze all my material (this may take sometime) since I have just been buying what catches my eye and sticking it in the closet. Hugh job!! But with some help from my 8 year old goddaughter it should go pretty fast. She's my little helper and loves to do projects with her Aunt Jody. Then it will be back to my project. I more than likely will not see my son until the first of August since they live on the east coast and we will not be going out there until he is ready to move to SD.

Would love to see what you have done. I love looking at other projects and getting ideas. I have the worst time with colors, so I always love to see what others have put together.

You two are so sweet. Thank you for your kind words. How impressive that your son has already had such a long commitment to the Navy for such a young man! My daughter has been able to travel so much already and has had truly unique experiences and she's only one year into the fleet now. She does wonder how to balance her work in the Navy with having a family though. How does your son & dil balance his travel and being away? Thank you for any tips or ideas that I can share with her.

Hi ~

I noticed your post in our group Moms of Officers and wanted to stop by and say Hi! It sounds like your son is headed for a Naval career. I'm sure you are proud of him! My daughter is a Surface Warfare Officer. Feel free to write, Sherry

Mary Ann....I am in a quilt guild also. Yes I know what you mean. I have been working on a quilt for my son. It was to be for his 30th birthday in April. Needless to say I just got done blocking the Texas Star. Luck for me he is deployed to Afghanistan and won't be home until July. So I have to get busy and put a border on it and then back it and do the quilting. If I work at it, I will have it done by the time I see him.
Stay in touch,
Jody
