OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Stage of (Sailor’s) Navy career?
Enlisted
When I heard “Navy,” I...
Was concerned or afraid
The Navy offers opportunities that...
I grew up a Navy child so this is not unfamiliar to me. I have watched my son take this from a passing thought to seeing it through and now as he prepares to leave for Bootcamp in 1 month I feel overwhelming pride. He has worked really hard and has dedicated himself to being fully prepared for the experience so I now know in my heart that this is good! ( but I still cry sometimes) :-)
Our Navy experience so far...
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.

cherylj....w..t, I see you have changed your Username so that it no longer contains your last name; you also need to change the URL to this page. Make change 2 at the bottom of OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) (clickable link) to take care of that. (If you are using a Smart phone, you will need to switch to Desktop View to make this change.)

Also make change 3 while you are there so that this page is no longer open to EVERYONE (Anyone) with access to the web.

There may be other changes you need to make as well, so read and consider each of the changes.

Another change that I recommend that is mentioned in change 1 is to change the ZIP Code to one that is not easily associated with your Sailor.

Check out USS Ross, Destroyer Moms (DDG) and Rota Spain. What is your Sailor's rating (job/specialty)? There may be a group for that as well.

Hey Cheryl!  Hanging in there?  I see you have the Ship and Division Number now and will be able to send letters.  He will appreciate it so much.  The next thing to look forward to is the first real letter from him.  Then usually around 21 days in they will be able to make a quick ten/fifteen minute call home to let you know they are on track.  All I can say is, keep that cell phone close!!  If you need any help with the site, let me know.  Been at it for a year now.  It looks like your PIR group has a good amount of people already!  That's great to follow other's that are on the same track as your son.  My PIR group only had about 60 members, but we became a close group.  I have several on my Facebook now and it's great to follow all of their careers.
