Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

Profile Information

A little about me:
I am the mother of four boys, oh excuse men three men and 1 boy! I have a 23 year old, 20 year old, 19 year old (currently in Boot Camp) and a 14 year old. We live in Northern California in a small town. When my son decided to join the U.S. Navy I was proud of him but really did not agree with his decision. However, being the strong willed, self assured boy he is he went forward with his plans and I know realize what a great fit the Navy is for my son.
I am here to support my

Hi Momoffour! Sorry about the delay in response, we are on vacation in San Francisco this week and I have been terrible about checking emails.

I was active duty in the early 90's, so some things may have changed a bit, but when my friend decided that corps school wasn't for him, he went to our class instructor. The instructor will try and talk them out of it, because there is paperwork involved, but he also knew how much the job wasn't a good fit, and when he wouldn't be persuaded, helped him. It didn't effect his record, or his career that I know of. He decided to go undesignated for about a year. That means he doesn't have a specific job. After a year, he figured out what he wanted to do and then applied for that school and got it.

Between you and me, there are a lot of corpsman that don't do the work of corpsman. They train a lot, in case they are needed, but then many go on the physical labor and administrative jobs. That doesn't make sense to me, because they start to forget skills if they don't use them regularly, but I'm not in charge. ;)

I hope this helps, and I hope your son finds the right place for him. You should be proud of him for realizing corps school isn't it, and then doing something about it. You've raised quite a young man!

Please practice PERSEC and don't post your SR's name as you did on my3luv1-Ship 11 Div 153 PIR 4/25's page. I have asked her to remove the comment, but you should check to be sure that she did. See OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) and make changes 2 and 3 while you are there.

Welcome to Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones). I look forward to sharing this journey with you. Be sure to check out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) for information on what to expect and to help you prepare for PIR. Start with OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) and Arrival and What Happens at the RTC and read 1 or 2 pages a day and then go back to them as you need the info. What is your SR's rating (job/specialty) going to be? There are groups for most ratings and/or "A" Schools and knowing that will help you to better plan for PIR weekend. Take care and blessings to you and yours.

Join the group, DEP-Leavin' for Boot Camp in February to connect with others with loved ones who arrived the same day and may have PIR together.

I also invite you to join, or at least check out, Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) and PIR Reference Information. Once you know your SR’s PIR date and/or division number, watch in Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) and/or at http://www.navyformoms.com/forum/topics/groups-listed-by-pir-date and join the group for that once it has been created. There will be a lot of great information and support for you in those groups. Be sure to check out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) and Discussions within the groups. Arrival and What Happens at the RTC within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) will let you know what is happening, but you will also want to check out the other Pages in all of the groups.

Since he is considering signing a contract for the PACT program, the information within Professional Apprenticeship Career Tracks (PACT) Program will be of interest to you.

Once he gets a ship date, go to the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month before Your Future Sailor Leaves for the RTC. At the bottom are links for each of the months, join the one for the month that your future Sailor ships.

Your future Sailor may want to join http://www.navydep.com to learn the ins and outs from the DEP point of view. Craig runs that and will steer him to some good links on there.
