Military Girlfriend

I am a military girlfriend. I take no moment spent together for granted. I hold onto every touch, caress, kiss , every word. I have memorized the feel of his skin, his smell, the sound of his voice, and I play it over and over in my mind so that I will not forget. I cry myself to sleep some nights because missing him hurts so badly, but wake up the next morning, brush myself off, and start a new day.

I am a military girlfriend. The evens of the next several months hold my…

-You suddenly have an obsession with anything military related.

-You see someone wearing an army, navy, or usmc shirt and you get this overwhelming urge to talk to them.

-You make friends with strangers online just because they are in the same situation as you and the only ones that can…

Had to take my sailor back to the base. Miss her already!

Dropped Danielle back off at the base. It was very tear filled. It was hard leaving the base without her. I wanted to grab her and take her back home with me. I enjoyed every minute with my sailor. She is so grown up now it is unbelievable. I get to see her again in about 6 weeks. My birthday weekend. Can't wait for that already.

I cried yesterday too when I had to drop her back off at base. It really didn't help matters that the Toby Keith song American Soldier came on just…

War

My two best friends waved goodbye at the Pennsylvania and Lake Erie train station in April of 1967: My fiance' and my only brother. They enlisted on the Buddy system, both trying to avoid extremely high numbers on the draft lottery. It was necessary to go into the 6th fleet or else go directly to Vietnam.

I felt totally abandoned at first but after several letters back and forth I began to realize how pivotal I was in their emotional adjustment to bootcamp and focused on providing…

PIR was awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Danielle graduated from bootcamp this morning. I tried to keep my emotions in check as the ceremony time crept closer and closer. When they announced that the recruits were on their way to the ceremony hall I wanted to start tearing up then. I couldn't believe that my daughter was a sailor. When they arrived at the hall and the door opened and the divisions started coming in as the announcer announced what divisions they were it was an unbelievable feeling. Especially when they announced her… Continue

Poems & quotes for my sailor

***Love is when you miss him even before he leaves,

when you could listen to him talk all night and never get tired of hearing his voice,

when the sound of his name sends chills down your spine,

and you see his smile the second you close your eyes.

I may not get to see you as often as I like, I may not get to hold you in my arms through the night,

but deep in my heart I truly know you’re the only one that I love and can’t let you go!*** <3

***I love…

My son's PIR is Feb. 12th and I haven't received a phone call yet.

I'm developing a serious case of angst waiting to hear from my son. His letter today said he will call next week. I think he wants to make double sure that he's made it through BC since he was delayed once due to a stress fracture. He feels bad we've already lost one set of plane tickets so I think this is why we haven't heard from him. Never the less, I'm stressing out over what to do.

Finding laughter on the journey

I have appreciated all of the kind words about my sense of humor in dealing with this new chapter in life that we call the Navy. I spend a great deal of time reading other blogs and posts and I am moved by the raw emotion that so many are feeling. Believe me I understand. My son Chris is my only child and his venture out into the world is not without its difficulty for me. There are the quiet moments that are just a bit too silent. Then there is the jacket that would normally be flung over a… Continue

Emotional Rollercoaster Circles —You Can't Go Home Again

Looking back over my blog titles, it seems they reflect & repeat (in a circular fashion). Someone far wiser than this mom said, "There is nothing new under the sun." I believe it. My heart-journeys have indeed been accelerated (is Mach 5 believable?) since my son left for Boot Camp. Right now, I wish I was dealing with Boot camp issues. Sort of like wishing your kids were back in first grade so you could look smart helping them with their homework. (Geometry looks way more difficult than I… Continue
