I was wondering if anyone knows how long 'A' school is for an Airman. My son will be attending A school in Pensacola after Boot Camp graduation on April 17th. Thanks!

SR arrived at BC on 3/5/15, had the quick call just before 11pm Chicago time. Received the box on 3/10/15. Here's a few words I blogged about to my family, with some of the most personal info thinned out...
My "kid-in-the-box" was delivered on March 10th. Well, it was delivered to my ex-husband. It was a bit of a struggle to get it from him, but I finally did on the 11th, thanks to my 18 yr old daughter reasoning with him.
So there it was. The box. When I opened the…

My son enlisted a few weeks ago(delayed entry program). Has gone through MEPS, took an oath.
He was originally suppose to ship out August 4th, but we have been advised that his ship date will change.
I'm not sure what to think about any of this! He was just 2 years old yesterday. What happened?
We were originally planning on college(which was an hour away).... now this?
I am VERY proud of my son, but my heart is shattered. I won't cry in front of him, but…

Have anyone had any experience with the educational benefits that are available for those on active duty-and do spouses have any? I am trying to be encouraging to my son (and his wife) but also don't want to "nag". But I would like to suggest some realistic options for them.

Today is Wednesday March 3, 2015 9:37 am central time. My son just finished A school in Pensacola Florida. He was scheduled to fly out of Pensacola Airport at 6:15 am on United flight 4479 and be home at 10:12 am. When he got to the airport at 5:00 am he was told that his flight was cancelled. The agents at United Airlines made NO attempt to get him on another flight. They told him to just go back to the Naval base. ( It cost him $30 to take a cab to the airport. It would have cost him…

My son will go on his first deployment and I need to know about options for phones. Should we get an "interntional plan" on his existing phone or should he get a "pay as you go" phone...If he takes his phone, what should he turn off so we don't get all kinds of charges? If he uses the ship's phones, do they have access to it often? Should he take his computer on the ship? I have so many questions about how we will communicate while he is gone and how we should pay...

My son left Jan. 19th 2015, and I don't know about most of the moms here, but I'm worried. Not that he isn't taken care of, eating well, sleeping well, or even doing a great job. It's all a "Me-Mom" issue. I have dropped him off at college for a year and cried for days, but he was only a text away. I could send a box of his favorites, and he would call thanking me.
Then, summer came and my smart, handsome son, said " I want to join the service. I have done 4 yrs. JROTC and a year in…

What a wonderful time we live in. Cameras built into portable phones that fit in your pocket. Snap a photo and in moments its transmitted all over the planet. Wow.
But if you have a Recruit at Great Lakes there are no personal phones/cameras. Maybe maybe maybe your kid will show up in a random photo on Face Book. Maybe. If you are lucky.
Now step into the Way Back Machine and set it to the spring of 1939. That's when my dad went to Boot Camp at Great Lakes.
At that time…
