First blog on Navy for Moms

My son is on Ship 11 Div. 212. No word at all from him yet other than the form letter. He did not sound too happy. We are looking into hotels and are not sure which airport to fly into. This is all very new to us. Its hard not having any idea what is going on with him.

Ship 6 Div 931

Hi all! My name is Paula and my son is on Ship 6 Div 931 and set for pIR 6/18. Just trying to learn how to be a member here and post stuff! Recieved our first letter from him and he sounded ok--says they can't laugh, smile or talk to each other or they get screamed at--he's a talker so i'm sure that's not sitting well!! Got our reservations at the Navy Lodge so we can have a kitchen. Although, he's a nuke so I am extremely worried he's going to be a grad n go and that is really gonna cause me… Continue

First letter

I received mail from my son who left for boot camp on April 27th. It was the information sheet with his mailing address and graduation date. I'm starting to make flight and hotel arrangements but found that I don't know anything about the Illinois area. Can someone help me find a hotel.

Andrew has finally been cleared!

Well, Andrew got cleared on Wednesday! That same day I was able to drive up and get him. So he is here until Sunday. Then I have to take him back.(His brother is in the hospital right now. They are trying to figure out why he is so sick-so Andrew came home on liberty). He came home under bad circumstances, his brother was so happy to see him walk into the room. I am just glad I was able to see him before he heads off to A school and Sear school. I'll be without…

Celebrating Asian and Pacific American Heritage Month

Hello everyone!

In 1992, legislation was passed and May was officially selected as Asian and Pacific American Heritage Month. This month we remember and celebrate the immigration of the Japanese to the U.S. in May 1843 and also the completion of the transcontinental railroad in May 1869, which was built mostly by the Chinese. The national theme for 2010 is “Diverse Leadership for a Diverse Workplace”.…

The Launch of Navy Live – The Official Blog of the United States Navy!

Hello N4M Members!

We have some great news to share! On April 22, the Navy launched its official blog, Navy Live, which is sponsored by the Navy Office of Information. Secretary of the Navy, the Honorable Ray Mabus has this to say about the blog, "Through the blog, we have the opportunity to begin a conversation in plain language about issues of the day and what the Navy and Marine Corps are doing about them, as well as solicit constructive feedback on our thoughts and policies." Navytwo son leaves next week for Pacific fleet

Can anyone let me know once a sailor is deployed how long it takes until you have contact? I am trying to stay strong since my son will be on the opposite coast and I know it will may be 6-7 months till I see him. I am used to talking or texting him several times a week and I need to get prepared for what deployment means. How long till he has an address and can receive mail? If he chooses to live on the ship does anyone know what that will be like. I appreciate any assistance that you can… Continue

Thanks from the Vinson

While in San Diego a couple of weeks ago a group of Navy moms from Molly's adopt a sailor was fortunate enough to meet Chaplain 'Fish' and his wife from the USS Vinson. He was our contact when we sent cards and letters to the ship while they were in Haiti providing earthquake relief. I must confess that my heart was full as we chatted. What great men and women are in our armed services! Giving of…

Continuing Frustrations

Now for the 3rd time my son's ASVAB test has been put off again. The reason this time is due to the floods in TN. Something to do with failing to get papers faxed to recruiters because of the floods. The recruiter couldn't tell him when it would be rescheduled. Can this be for real or what? Still FRUSTRATED. Just read about Millington, TN. Now I feel really bad. So new at this and wasn't aware of the floods affecting the Navy Base there. Guess my frustrations are going to be put on the back… Continue

Chat about the ship and talk about what their doing. I'm here in TN and there are VERY few other Navy families. Please comment back.

I didn't feel like it

I didn't feel like it...Those are probably the 5 most hurtful words I have felt in a while. My sailor hadn't contacted me in quite some time. He finally does and his reponce for why we haven't talked was I didn't feel like it. He has been in the navy now for 11 months and we have been together for a year and 7 months, I never thought he would just chose NOT to talk to me. I though maybe he got deployed early and I was praying so hard for his safety. He does special ops stuff and sometimes I… Continue

PA Navy Mom's Future Luncheon

I am interested in planning a PA Navy Mom's Luncheon.

I would like to know how many Mom's would be intersted.

I have enjoyed my time on N4M's and don't know what I

would have done without all the support.

This is just the beginning of a long journey and I would like to

meet Mothers in my area so that we can support each other.

My Son's PIR is on 5/14/10.

I live in Monroe Cty PA (NEPA).
